1. I tried getting bookings at a couple of new venues for my covers band this weekend and despite being there in person with diary to hand, I was told to contact them through FB with the band FB page/account. I asked why FB and was told it was a very quick easy reference for the venue to see what sort of band we were and if we had any kind of following (pint glasses in hands for the venue)! As it happens we have a FB page but a bit sad that the number of band friends that 'like' a band page could dictate who gets a gig... no guarantee of quality, just of lots of friends clued up re. social media.
2. Ultimately if you have to post any bass you should prepare for the worst and assume your package will be dropped (several times... quite violently) so a case inside of a thick cardboard box but you can make it just as protected by layers of bubble wrap. gigbag and the most important; a cycle box from Halfords (or even two if you can get them to fit inside each other)!
3. SOLD!
4.
I can't play fretless (yet...just another thing I want to learn) but oh my word, and I'm close.
Close so give it a blast. If you get it and want to stick to fretted, then £100 will get it fretted and you have a CS Dolphin for 'normal' Pro I money!
5. After the allotted 'bump' time has elapsed, I delete my last bump and add a new one. Mods still have the ability to see the deleted post so they can tell I'm not abusing the system but it also stops the thread being clogged with 'bump' messages!
6. Bump
7.
Funnily enough, a mate of mine has just posted some photo's of a gig there on farcebook, and apparently the audience were "well up for it!" The 'stage' area seems a bit small, but you should get your sylph-like figure tucked in a corner without any problem.
...but is there room for my stage diving into the mosh pit and balancing on top of the lighting rig... Oh hang on, it's a Blues gig!
8. Have you heard much of a watering hole 'The Schooner' Al? Luckily, Berb and the boys in the band will make it easy on Saturday... I hope!
9. I have a busy weekend ahead. Friday... 2 sets of acoustic covers (Washburn AB20) with one of my previous bands; laid back and without a drummer. Saturday... 2 sets depping for a local 'Blues/Americana' band, with some original material. Sunday... 2 sets with my regular 'Rock' covers band. All in all I need to memorise 73 songs (not to worried about that side of things) but oddly the 'Blues' covers are giving me the most jip. Punters for the Friday and Sunday gigs will happily accept my interpretations of the anticipated bass lines but the Blues Nazis will be expecting me to play the original scales/lines and to get through the gig (6 days notice to learn the sets) I may well be ad-libbing much of it. I'm not unduly worried but do those who find themselves playing in unfamiliar styles/genres ever get the feeling that they are not quite doing justice even though they are confident/competent/proficient in others styles/genres? It may be compounded by the fact that I've no rehearsal time with the Blues band and I'll be busking the beginnings and ends... and quite possibly most of the middle.
10. Sorry I'll close this, it went to someone local a couple of weeks ago!

12. 'been around the block'... also known as having MoJo.
13.
Do guitars actually sound bad through bass gear though? Guitarist in my band now plays through a Fender Bassman 1x15 combo which sounds great using pedals for distotion. I always wanted him to hook up to my Ashdown 4x8 but never got round to it.
The EQ is voiced different for guitar/bass but not to say you can't use. Bass through guitar gear will generally run out of headroom pretty quick, so a bass player using 50w of guitar gear is going to be crucified by a guitarist using same. Conversely, a guitarist will have loads of clean headroom if using bass gear 'especially' if he is using effects to get his sounds (in particular distortion).
14.
But postage for a 30 kg. cab is something like £870 or so I hear
Really?
15. I agree with Muzz. Just throwing speakers into a cab (regardless of cost/type) will give a random result which might well work but for the cost and to factor out the possibility of making an expensive gamble, I'd spend the same money on a used (or poss even new) cab. Cabs are (meant to be) designed around speakers, or vice versa and unless you are going to put OEM drivers in I'd not take the chance.
16. Did you ever get an accurate weight for this?
17. A new definition to the term 'light'!
18. Lots of good sound scientific knowledge around to debunk the notion that 'when turned up, the dual 12" runs out of breath faster than the 15"' or that 15 goes lower than 10 etc but ultimately our ears decide what 'we' like best.
19. Tis true and folks can't respond on the thread/post.
20. Check out a couple of the stickies at the top of the section on amps/cabs. In short though... if your drivers in the combo (combined) are 8 ohm and the ext cab is 8 ohm you will get max output from the amp and do no harm to any single piece.
21. REDUCED £1700 and new pics added
22. No 'logic' to the shocks, they are purely (ugly) aesthetic!
23. Each to his own I suppose but I'll not be joining the queue even if they are giving them away for free!
24. I think it's perfect debate material. The very fact that folks with lots of first hand knowledge of amps (with/without DI) are discussing the features of an amp, helps us and others form opinions/decisions. As you say it's no big deal but if we didn't have this banter you may as well not bother responding to any thread.
25.
Major thread derailment guys If you want the DI version of this head then buy it. If you don't, dont.
'Derailment'... debating the merits of the features of an amp! Really?
