1.
I hate it when that happens.
It was payback for him keep changing the patch on my multi-effects unit whilst I was playing 😉 today, I managed to remove all of his cymbals and just leave him the 8" splash.
2. Yes handy being able to identify stuff by looking at the guitarist's hands and I do also play guitar and know lots of chords but I think what mainly gets me through gigs and deps is having learned the song in the first place. I can see how it all may help in a jam/open mic situation but invariably, people will want to play the same old stuff that most people know. Even if I've never played it, the chances are I've heard it at some point in the last 65 years😂
3. Played at a village fete this afternoon. Lovely crowd, nice food tons of fun on stage due to our latest jape of taking the drum kit to bits whilst he's playing it.
4.
Me too. This year has been my quietest ever. I've got a total of three gigs in the diary for the rest of the year and I'm bored bored bored. I've checked gumtree, jojnmyband, everywhere looking for something to fill the gaps and there's nothing even remotely interesting out there. Starting to wonder if this, together with my increasingly painful arthritic fingers, is a sign that it might nearly be over for me.
Then you need to come to central France mate. It's quite bizarre, surrounded by cows, farmers and old ladies in surgical stockings, gigwise it's busy. Last night's gig (played a blinder) was my 6th in 8 days including a dep I took on. At it again tomorrow afternoon so that'll be 7 in 10 days. It's seasonal, April till maybe October, but there's lots going on. As Leslie Crowther used to say "come on down"
5. Series 6 300watt head and a pair of 4x10 cabs. That florescent tube in front was beautiful and so was the sound. Was using mainly Status at the time despite not being a huge fan of Mark King. Never had one problem with it. Loved it. Went to Eden, then Mark bass and now on ultra light GB shuttle rig but then I am 65 with a shot back, knees and arthritis 😂
6. Trust me, you'll be well pleased with that. Great price too.
7. Weird and wet. Took on a dep not knowing what this French guitar led trio even played😂 No setlist, just shouted out incorrect names of songs in wrong keys??? Played everything from Howlin wolf to Nancy Sinatra. Lasted an hour before downpour. Still, got paid and home early.
8. I don't look like this, and the wife's not happy about it 😂
9. Great one tonight, outside, at my own village Auberge. Warmish night and big crowd for the venue. Kept them all there until the end and loads up dancing. Loads of band fun on stage and the icing on the cake was a guest sax player and a 90 second drive home.
10.
Hi if you are thinking of buying the one for sale on her from Leschirons.............. I owned it from new and sold it to him. The original purchase price from PMT in Romford was £1,100.00 It was my may bass for 7 or 8 years before being kept under the bed for another 8. It was as solid as can be. Nice tone, never went out of tune and slapable - Which may sixers aren't. You can also trust Leschirons 100%
Thank you for those kind words.
11. Looks like the 5 may be going. Just the sixer to shift.
12. The ideal bass regarding the spec required, string spacing, twin p/ups, active, scale length and weight would seem to be a Status Energy 6 string. Easily pick them up for under £500 and the usual Status quality.
13.
Politics.
Meaning?
14. Got tickets for Toto at the venue in the title. Anyone been there? Can't even tell if this is seated, seems to be no info on the venue at all. Anyone ever been there?
15. Be nice if the government had a look at Amazon, PayPal and Starbucks before jumping on window cleaners and pub bands. It's happening here too. 70% of our gigs are now paid by cheque. We take it in turns to bank it although, I actually declare my earnings. Better than looking over your shoulder.
16.
I think the Flea and Geddy Lee basses are amazing instruments, regardless how you feel about the artists themselves.
I get that totally. They're both accomplished and worthy hero's to a lot of people and, the basses are financially within reach to the majority of players. Even the Adam Clayton bass I get due to the popularity of the band but most players under 40 probably wouldn't know who Robbie Robertson is.
17. Never really had a problem with the concept. There's always been guitar and bass heroes but today, I saw the ad for the Robbie Robertson signature Strat. It's £12,000!! It's not as if he's actually a great guitarist or some sort of ground breaking virtuoso. A couple of great songs and the Last Waltz. That's it isn't it? Or have I missed something? Fender must be desperate to simply get a name, any name on a headstock. Wonder how many they'll sell. Rant over, just going to get an hour's practice in on my Angela Merkel jazz 5😎
18. Not good. French wedding reception at a huge rented chateau. Fell foul of the Nazi catering company. Made us set up in different area and later than planned, actually stopped us playing twice during our first set due to their inefficient service, and we ended up in an open sided garden marquee as opposed to under a covered terrace. (They did actually get a rollicking from the bride and groom for spoiling the flow of the whole evening) We played, and went down well but the gig wasn't what I'd call good.
19. Good vocals, good guitarist, sounds like a bit of Queen is in order. Old stuff again, but crowd pleasers and certainly challenging depending on what you pick.
20. Surely you take spare basses so as your wife is not left at home looking at all the basses that you said you needed.
21. Maybe he's doing it for a wrist injury charity fundraiser.
22. When I've said I can smell burning, our guitarist would always say it's probably his fingerboard. One day, I'll surprise him with a bucket of water😂
23. Cheap doesn't necessarily mean bad these days. Far from it. The last 15 gigs have all been on an £80 bass, by choice, not necessity. Times are hard for sure for a lot of people, but you can still enjoy playing. It's all about the attitude, not the price of the gear.
24. Long life and happiness to you both.
25. First and last bump before I stick one or both up for sale.
