It's all down to why you want to play. If it's just for financial reasons. Yes, it's going to be tough at 63. (I'm 65 next week) If it's the pleasure and experience of playing with other musicians, they're out there and, if you don't mind doing a few charity or freebee social gigs, you'll probably get another 15 years out of it.
If I don't feel you physiclly or intelectually will fit I'm not letting you in my band. End of. Am I a bigot or do I just know what I want (or don't want) for the band ?
+1
she has a fantastic ass though.
Sure has, but only if you like fat asses 😂
Probably the most worrying question is Why are there so few young bands playing pubs?
Maybe younger bands don't see pub gigs as the way forward, but a dead end street. If they want to achieve fame and fortune, it'll only be with a label, producer or lucky enough to have a video noticed on YouTube
We once refused to audition a guitarist, much to our then drummers chagrin because he was too tall. He was a lovely guy and came to see us at a gig, which is something that would give you a plus mark right from the start in my book but he was amazingly tall He was big enough to turn heads at the gig and our singer said to me that he couldn't see him in our band. This was before the poor bloke got to play a note and I had to agree. I too think it would have looked odd. I can still see the unfairness in this but I let it happen. Les
In fairness though, wasn't your band called The Hobbits back then?

Something I've noticed whenever I go back to the UK is that quite a few pubs have been converted to habitation. If you own a struggling big old pub in the middle of town, the possibility of 5 trendy appartments that'll sell for £400,000 each is a no brainier decision.

I'm old. I'm overweight (slightly) I'm bald. Why on Earth would I expect to be taken on by a band of 20 year olds who all look like Jack Sparrow and Edward Scissor-hands just because I can play well? The same reason my tight leather black jeans have remained in the wardrobe for 17 years. I don't fit the bill (or the jeans) It's not ageist, sexist, racist or any other ist. We're just not what they're looking for.

Oh dear, Ms Carey will no doubt be blaming someone else and vastly shortening their career prospects after her lip-syncing gig went pear shaped last night. http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/38483893/mariah-carey-stormed-out-of-2016-with-a-technical-meltdown Mods, please feel free to move this to "Off topic" if you feel it doesn't fall within the realms of "music"

Reading the ad, I assumed the guy was going to look something like this, not some tubby kid who still lives with mum
The Beatles were never teen idols. Not like a David Cassidy or Lief (I Was Made For Dancing) Garett. Not in the States. Not by my definition of Teen Idol. Blue
So how old were all those girls collapsing in hysterics at the airport?

If Justin Bieber were the world's most successful and richest window cleaner, no-one would say anything. It's just that the critics seem to have a different opinion of what constitutes talent. Especially when it comes under the heading of music. I certainly wouldn't criticize his talent for earning millions of dollars. It's only musos that slag him off and if he hadn't had put a certain amount of work in, he wouldn't be where he is. Just because he hasn't played 2,000 badly paid bar and pub gigs over 30 years and carried his bass rig 200 yards in the rain doesn't mean he's not good at what he does. He's not for me but good luck to anyone that makes a success of their life.

Okay, Gregory Porter. Anyone know what's going on with that hat when he's indoors? Or, is there something I don't know about like alapecia or cheomo and I've put my foot in it.

Party anthems? Does that mean Mustang Sally and I love rock'n'roll?

If you could have any one bass in the FS section

Have to be that white Yamaha Nathan East. I think that would be the do it all bass for me. -
Just heard. Yet another one. Not a fan but huge respect. Seems it was an infection. Real shame. Only 68 too.

Anybody played an Alembic Essence...........?
leschirons replied to Chewie's topic in General Discussion
Had one for two weeks which probably says a lot. I personally found it positively underwhelming in every respect. Bought it purely because it was an Alembic, back in the days when I could. Neck too deep for my liking, bass didn't balance well, sound was very wooly and lower mid biased. Restrung it, just the same. It was heavy too. Eventually came to the conclusion that superb playability doesn't actually have a lot to do with price. Maybe it was just not a nice one, or just not for me. Got a couple of mates who swear by Alembics though so all down to personal choice. Try it out and make a judgement. -
I think the best playing I have ever heard (live) was from Tom Kennedy. I've seen a few of the really top names like Marcus, Melvin Davis, Vic Wooten, Alain Caron, Nathan East, Alphonso Johnson etc but Tom Kennedy is always playing to compliment the music and never seems to play for playing's sake. Saw him twice with Dave Grusin and he blew me away.

Is all successful pop music just of it's own time?
Interesting topic. Take Sledgehammer, awesome song, huge hit, but if it were released now, would it make it onto radio?
Exactly, my post came about due to our French guitarist saying that "Let it be" could still be a mega hit today as it's quality as a song is undeniable. My point is, probably not if you're hearing it for the first time. -
Still have my "Yankee",at least 20 year since I used it but still got it just in case.
What, just in case you want to put a big squiggly twirly scratch across the job when the bit jumps out of the screw head and you're still pushing😂

Following a recent conversation regarding the Beatles, I've been trying to think of songs from the 60s 70s and even the 80s that would be successful if written today, and apart from show tunes, can't really come up with anything. If the success of pop songs were purely reliant on being contemporary, it's quite a weird thought that had (for example) the Beatles written and recorded all those songs 15 years later, they may well have sold in hundreds rather than millions.

Telecasters with me. Latest one is my 5th after having sold the previous 4 as they "weren't my thing" 😂
