Now you've got me thinking........ I have only 1 and it's in tweed I'm using it with the AG5OOSC. It holds its own at band rehearsal. The one I have is without tweeter. The question I ask now is, have I got enough in one? I'm not gigging again yet,but will possibly within the next 2 months. I normally find about 250 watts is usually more than enough, and when I used my Eden combo had plenty of volume to play with. Please tell me I have enough power.......
Bridge is a Schaller 471. You can get it from Warmoth. I think it might be discontinued though. Will try to upload some soundclips over the weekend so you can all have a listen. Yeah, Entwistle used to use Alembic Explorers in the late 70's until the mid 80's. As I've already indulged my Entwistle fixation before by getting a Status Buzzard, I figured that the only thing I was lacking in terms of radically different sounds was an 8 string. After trying a few (most were rubbish or just didn't stay in tune - which one might argue is the same thing) I decided to just go for it and get an 8 string Explorer. As for tuning, it seems to hold up really well. Thankfully the bridge has individual saddles otherwise I'd be pulling my hair out. I played it for about 3 hours last night at rehearsal and it was still in tune at the end. Hopefully that won't change when the wood all settles out.
What did the rest of the band think?

Definitely one of the better looking 8 strings Soundclips soon? When I get away from here, I'll have to upload pic of mine, and eventually do a soundclip or something Mine sounds cross between greek wedding music and Motorhead. Not sure how long 8 strings stay in tune tho'

Maybe someone here could pass it on to you.
Thanks for that. I've got the cubase, which came with my zoom. Riffworks is part of line6 gearbox
I downloaded Audacity and use that to record from the GX, it is freeware so costs nowt. Get it here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Thanks for that, but I tried the trial version of Riffworks and I find it easier.

Unused fingers, and what to do with them
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to DaveMuadDib's topic in General Discussion
When I first started, I never used to place thumb on any pickup. I used to gently lean the side of my hand in the centre of the bass between the pickups. Now I always put thumb on a pickup. Regarding tthe 'other fingers 'on the right hand,I suppose you could gently rest them on pickup. You could try different techniques if you get restless(like rolling/flamenco). This depends on the style you play. Also, you could try playing simple songs using each finger from index-pinkey one at a time. Failing that, you could just carry n picking or use the thumb for slap... -
Planet Wave cables /Summerfield music

Sent back cable that packed up ,without receipt. Received replacement in a couple of days, due to the 'lifetime guarantee'. Nice people to do business with -
I've tried various effects. I thought that the Zoom B21U was the best in terms of using with a band. However, I recently got a Boss ME-50B and took it with me toband practice and already use it now for 3 songs. If you just wanna use effects at home, the Boss ME-8B has loads of stuff. The difference about seperate pedals v multieffects? With seperate boxes, you should know what particular sound you're after. With multieffects, there are lots of good and lots of virtually unusable noises imho So you can find a setting or 2 that's right for you eventually Or you could leave well alone and get a decent amp/cab etc.instead

The best thing to do ,is to try as many basses as possible until you find one or two that catch the ear/eye. There are so many types out there now. You could try Dean,Schecter,Gibson/Epiphone thunderbird/BCRich/washburn for starters. Also ,if your bass feels good and it's only the sound that's bothering you,you could try effects pedals,or possibly a change of amp.

I'm still confused . I sent them email last week, heard nothing. Took cable back to shop, but was told to post it to the address on box. (no uk address) Tried to get onto the link (see above) ,that didn't work. It looks like unless I can find a lead(sorry) to a uk dept. I'll have to put it down to bad experience. I realise leads do cease to operate at any given moment, but if there is a lifetime guarantee what about an address for the company you purchased from? -
Yep,the new strings can clearly be heard. I think this pedal's really good. It seems to cater for many types of distortion.
