Great Bass Mysteries of Our Age - Why.....
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to merello's topic in Bass Guitars
I suppose if they play/sound okay , one could be purchased , left in the traffic for a while, then voila a 'roadworn' bass -
Found adjusting easy enough, but I find it more awkward playing stuff on the G string. I'm adjusting the patterns ,that used to be involving the g string on different part of the neck. Was thinking of getting one of my other basses adjusted in a shop to be permanently B E A D , and selling my 5 . Either that ,or possibly remove g string altogether ....

I've been in a few conversations with various people about the pub situation. We generally thought about three things that ruined it for us: Recession No smoking over£3.00 a pint . What do you think?
The Red Lion is going to be a Tesco Metro. Pub shut last night. Boooo. This is why our gig on the 21st is a moveable feast at the moment. Might now be on at the Twickenham Tup?
There was talk of a Tesco Metro,at the petrol staton up the road from there a few years back . oh well......

Does a musician's death move you?
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to essexbasscat's topic in General Discussion
I felt very sad when Joe Strummer died, Johnny Cash' death also affected me a bit but was tempered by the thought that he really missed June and maybe he would rather not be around without her. Others who's death pissed me off are Townes Van Zandt, John Lennon, Malcolm Owen of the Ruts ( I believe that he would have become a very talented and respected songwriter had he not got involved with smack). I will probably cry like a baby when Levon Helm goes.
Forgot about Johnny cash. Legend -
Does a musician's death move you?
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to essexbasscat's topic in General Discussion
Well,Elvis was a household name when I was growing up ,and I was a young kid when he died. He was a great loss to the world ,and it's good that he's remembered. Tho', I'm still trying to get my head round Chinese Elvis, Elvis in Tesco's etc. Wasn't much of a Doors fan, but I think Jim Morrisson was a genius ,tho' losing the plot abit near the end. Lucky to have seen Bon Scott and AC/DC on the Highway to hell tour (my 1st 'proper' concert ) A legend imho Met Bob Calvert ,,and it was sad about him. Same with Cliff Burton. Then you hear of people like Robbin crosby/Layne Stayley ,who lived the dream but the drugs got them . As for John Lennon ,despite being one of the most talented songwriers ever I'm gonna be unpopular here with my views on him. Sorry, but I found him to be too opinionated, too political and I hate that Christmas song ..and Imagine! He died on my birthday . I feel more sorrow for Diamond Darrel of Pantera, who also died on my birthday.(Got shot too actually) As for the future, when Lemmy passes that that will be truly sad. One of the most larger than life characters ever. Bono? A day of celebration . Cue:angry response -

Just what is the Trace Elliot Sound?
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to iconic's topic in Amps and Cabs
I used to use TE'S in various rehearsal rooms over the years. At the time ,I thought they looked and sounded great. Last experience ? : I had a 350 watt gp7sm combo, for a few months. Trouble started when I got my Tele Bass. The guitarist we had at the time ,hated the sound. Mr. Drums said it sounded' wooley'. Anyway, we did our first gig as a unit. The singer's sister recorded a rough copy. And despite all my running around etc. the bass was very hard to pickup. My Eden Nemesis combo (which is still available for sale/trade) wipes the floor with it. You don't need to mention my Aguilar.... I did initially miss the Trace when sold, but the Aguilar fits in with the furniture in my flat -
Exactly how old is the brand Encore?

I would've thought early 90's.wonder What does he do for an encore? -
Sad times. I was gonna go and try to get a gig at the Red Lion at the weekend. No need to now. Strange pub,was a Filthy Mac pub for a bit. It's hard enough to find places as it is. The coach and Horses, is that closing too?? I find the guvnor (Richard) to be more interested in making a few bob, rather than look after the bands . (ie ,he'll charge £5.00 admittance fee wether ther's 2 or 22 people watching) Looks like we may be reverting to playing with ourselves ,if ther's nowhere for us

Hmmmm. And again, hmmmmm.
Having seen GnR open the 'Maidens show at Donnington 88, very impressed at how a thrown about Duff bass has maintained it's good looks? (Sadly Gnr were s^!*e at that gig)
I was there. Couldn't see much of them. It was the fist time I saw a crowd running backward and forward at a gig simultaneously.Dangerous. Thought they were good ,altho' they were too big for the early support slot on that tour. They played 'patience' which altho' is imho a classic ,wasn't released at the time . We were baffled as to what all the whistling was about
