I went to see Paramore and hated the sound...

Used to love the small venues. When in the day ,'Hammy O' was the biggest metal bands played. Then,in the late '80s more artists started using arenas like Wembley Arena etc. (Sorry ,can only speak from the London area) What I've noticed about the bigger venues: Wembley arena has improved . The sound .The staff etc. It seems the more I go here ,the more enjoyment I get. (apart from the journey) I hate outdoor gigs. Tho' it's nice that Twickenham Rugby ground do a handful now and again. (and of course it's only up the road from me). Unless you are standing,or are seated very near the front, the sound is dreadful. Wembley stadium: Better setup, facilities etc. but abysmal sound and hassle of travel etc. The o2: Been twice . Both times this year for Metallica. Different places in venue. First night , Highest place in the arena. If I sneazed ,I'd have been dead after falling from a great height . Could almost touch the ceiling. Great Sound tho', and I could see them. 2nd night: Standing, great sound . Saw everything. Just don't bank on there being a jubilee line whenever a good band plays there. Looking forward to Rammstein at Wembley arena in Feb....... -
You can always trawl myspace/the web for other rock covers bands operating in the SW London area and see where they're playing. It doesn't actually mean that the venues are any good, but you can always solicit opinions on the venues once you have the names.
Thanks Musky ,think I'll do that

Gave up on Bass Player a good few years back, (once in a while I may purchase). The british equivalent,BGM is getting worse and , if I see it (not very often) I give it browse and decide whether to purchase there and then. The old Bassist magazine was good. I wouldn't be surprised if a Bass mag ceases to exist eventually.Or returns to a small column in a guitar mag like Guitar for the practcing musician.

Sounds like you guys should roll a few Rizla's and play in a more relaxed fashion -
The Peel in Kingston is great but not sure if they do covers or just touring stuff. Worth a go though
Wow! Don't think we're worthy. Some of the bands that play there are fairly big names. Thanks tho'

Was looking at this myself, but not used one yet. I'll be looking at this thread and see what the users here think. I recently posted a thread about recording my band's rehearsals ,so will weigh everything up etc.
was going to suggest the Grey Horse. The same guy also puts on bands up at the Kings Head in Acton - bigger venue, but you do have to lug your kit up a fire escape.
Thanks for that, Aah, that be Richard. We're not too keen on him. He just wants to line his pockets. He doesn't really like the idea of paying people . Even if 1 man and his dog are watching , he'll charge a fiver or something. Mr. Drums had problems like this with him in his other band Any other venues anybody

Wow! This'll sound messy , but stick with it...... 1.) open hand 2.)bend index finger and ring finger together towards your palm 3.)keep those two fingers where they are and hold them down with your thumb. 4,)while doing this ,raise pinkey(littlefinger) and other finger and stretch them GENTLY as high as you can 5.) Alternate fingers. 6.)you may decide to do one or two hands at a time,it's up to you. but go easy . Hope that doesn't sound too confusing.

Did you pay for this in blood money?? Nice..... now go get some luminous paint and scare your children.....

If you can't get on with another band member, quit! Music is supposed to be enjoyable, not another' job'. My last experience of not getting on with another band member(guitarist,surprise..): 4 strangers (me & three others) all join band together through a couple of ads. We never knew each other. Eventually, the scenario was : singer, rarely rehearsed. Me &Drums get on fine. Guitarist, critical of most of my playing(it made me improve alot tho') Guitarist very quiet most of the time(not a man of words). The thing I did,(because we all joined without knowing each other) was see who was gonna quit first . It was almost me,but I persevered. Eventually ,guitarist quit. Singer hates guitarist, drummer thinks guitarist is hard work. End result :I get new singer,as he 'wasn't available for a month' and me and drummer get new guitarist. Irionically,I have a 'friend' request on facebook from guitarist ,but have iognored as he is hard work. Whatever band I'm in now, if I don't get on with all members,I walk. Life's too short.
