  1. Yup. Us too. Or at least that was the case with my last gigging band. We supported a lot of charities with our gigs and never made any money personally. So my answer would be, absolutely. But if I was a professional musician who's primary income was from gigging, it may not be so black and white.
  2. So they would also have to be not paying their staff or their beer supplier?
  3. This came up on another thread and I though it was an interesting topic for discussion. If a venue where you played regularly asked you to play for free, given that the current social distancing measures make it difficult for any venue to make money, would you do it, at the risk that without your support the venue may have to close for good?
  4. Yeah maybe this should be a thread all of its own. It's a good topic of discussion. I'll start one so as not to derail this thread.
  5. And would you? Genuine question and not a judgement either way. Would you play for free to support a venue that could otherwise close for good, in order to secure future work? It's a difficult one.
  6. I always found this utterly ridiculous. I mean, what were they thinking? It's somehow even worse with the sound off.
  7. Am I missing something? You will always get that noise when unplugging a live cable which is plugged into an amp at the other end. Regardless of what you're unplugging it from. It's not the pedal at fault. It's always good practice to turn off, or at the very least mute the amp before unplugging any cables.
  8. I'd sell it and use the money to rent some thugs to send round to Scott's house and "gently persuade" him to remove me from his email list. Seventy thirteen spamming emails a week is more than one man can endure.
  9. *Heads over to Google to see who Adam Nitti is. 10 minutes reading and still none the wiser. Stunning looking bass though.
  10. Not in front of an audience. But we've been back to our "normal" weekly practice for a few weeks now.
  11. I'm pretty confident I've got 0 out of 15. Not the first foggiest idea who any of them are.
  12. Wow! That headstock decal replacement is almost seamless.
  13. In the case of jazz you don't need to bother tuning at all.
  14. I couldn't even name most bassists by the face. I got 60% but I've never even heard of most of them, and a lot were guessed based on other things than the instrument. The double denim had to be Cliff Burton, and I'm pretty sure the gentleman of Afro Caribbean heritage isn't Sting.
  15. Many thanks. I'll check them out 👍 I should had maybe started in my original post, I'm not lazy or averse to Googling, but every site I was taken to via Google which claimed to be free, eventually hit a paywall.
  16. You see here we go with the utter cow poop again. If I was a white farmer in South Africa I would run the risk of being murdered in my bed every night just for the colour of my skin, as many have been, and are being on a daily basis. Where were the mass protests when the Chinese were committing genocide in Tibet. Or when the British and Americans were doing it all across the middle east. Maybe yellow or brown is the wrong shade of black? It's a problem specific to a certain area and a certain group of people. I don't want to hear your protestations of racism because some white cop in Bumflip USA is a racist. It's nothing to do with me. It's not a crime I am guilty of because of the pigmentation of my skin, and to claim I have "Male white privilege" as many would say, is I itself a sexist and racist comment, showing the hypocrisy of the current "side with me or you're the problem" mentality. I don't want to side with you. I don't want to side with anyone. You want to shout and scream and pull over statues. Go right ahead. You want me to care? That's beyond your remit.
  17. And what about the current world, in which the minorities are shouting so loud, the majority can not be heard?
  18. Jesus, here we go again! Stop the world, I want to get off.
  19. Being poor makes me eco friendly. I can't afford anything that's not made out of plywood. 😂
  20. Can anyone recommend and good stock video sites? I'm just trying to get into recording, and I'd like to try a bit of basic video editing alongside, to knock up some videos to go along with the music. Given the current Covid situation I'm not going to be out and about doing a load of live filming, and it's for my own entertainment rather than anything professional, so the cheaper the better. Preferably free. Thanks
