Faulty Squier Affinity - £5
Newfoundfreedom replied to TheGreek's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I think it was just meant to be a heads up for anyone who might be interested in a "cheap" bass. But as I said earlier, the starting price has absolutely no relevance to the final price. In my experience, the vast majority of bidding on eBay happens in the last 5 seconds. -
Nope. Hell is full of jazz musicians. At least, mine is.

Faulty Squier Affinity - £5
Newfoundfreedom replied to TheGreek's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
£5 is only the starting bid, which means nothing. Even then, it's not worth going to Hull for a fiver. 😆 -
Yup. I'd definitely report them. That's against eBay rules.

Budget instrument manufacturers such as Harley Benton have upped their game so much over the last few years that cheap no longer means poor quality. I don't think I own anything worth more than £300.

Trolls on Facebook? Well that's something I've never seen before. Is this post a wind up?

Do you get the canoe with it, or is that extra?

NBD: We don't appear to have ANY threads on these
Newfoundfreedom replied to Cat Burrito's topic in Bass Guitars
I must admit I've always fancied one of these. They could probably do a reasonable impersonation of an actual bass, but with the extended range allow for some guitar like chords and acrobatics. Plus, they look superb!- 8 replies

E to E the same as a standard guitar I believe, but an octave lower. (I await to be corrected if I'm wrong)- 8 replies

Slightly overrated bass palyers

I'd be better off giving the acting lessons. 😆 -

I don't get the logic? Why would his none bass oriented stuff be of any relevance to a thread about over rated bass players? Especially when taking about someone who is known for being a bass player. It's like saying Keanu Reeves is a good bass player, because he's made some decent films. -
Don't tell the supplier that. They might offer you a slight refund rather than the hassle of returning it, which would be a nice little bonus.

This very much reminds me of a similar thing years ago when advertising in Autotrader. A company kept calling me saying they had a buyer for the car I had advertised. All I had to do was pay them £50 commission and they would put me in touch with the buyer. Sounds like a different variation of the same scam to me. Or the one where aspiring models are approached by an agency who want to sign them, all they have to do is pay £300 for a professionally produced portfolio first. As already stated above, if they're asking for money up front, it's a scam.

Are you suggesting we have a short atten......

My fingers always feel comfortable, and never wear out.

I love it mate. It's all I play now. The 4 string has been relegated to living under the sofa.

Slightly overrated bass palyers

Ok I'll put myself in the firing line. I can't stand Jaco. Noodling noise pollution. Can't argue with the guys ability, but there was nothing musical about his playing. I don't get it.- 97 replies

I use two in some cases. One permanently on on my amp, and a boost compressor on my pedal board. I have the one on the amp on just because it's there and it has a pretty light. I use the boost to even out the sound whilst using an octaver, but it acts more like an eq than anything else. Other than that I can't really hear any difference when using one. I'm sure it's there, but to my ear there's very little, if any difference. I must admit, I don't really get the compressor thing.

Me! No........ wait..... Nobody says I'm good. -
I recently picked up a couple of packs of 6 string bass sets for £6 a pop on eBay. Really can't fault em. Edit. These are the kiddies. Still available. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153818811958

The C word is banned in my house. Don't have anything to do with it. -
I was massively disappointed with Marilyn Manson. Two short sets, no encore, absolutely no interaction with the crowd. It just felt like he was going through the motions. Probably my worst gig experience.

Cute Couplets and Luscious Lyrics
Newfoundfreedom replied to stewblack's topic in General Discussion
I always thought this was a clever little lyric from the late, great, Kirsty MacColl. I saw two shooting stars last night I wished on them but they were only satellites It’s wrong to wish on space hardware I wish, I wish, I wish you’d care -
I picked up a Sub Zero B stock hollow body bass of eBay a few years ago for £100 from Gear 4 Music's eBay shop. If I remember rightly the full retail price was about £220. I've still got it and to this day I've never figured out what was supposed to be wrong with it. I swear they must have accidentally sent me a factory new one. The electrics have gone a bit crackly and ropey over the years and could do with replacing, but apart from that it's surprisingly good. It looks stunning, and plays and sounds far better than it probably should at that price. This is the up to date equivalent model. The headstock logo and name have changed but other than that it's pretty much the same animal. https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/RedSub-HB-Bass-Guitar-Sunburst/2C6K
