New knob day! Since accidentally breaking the preamp on my Hohner Jack, and subsequently fitting a passive loom (courtesy of @KiOgon), my Jack has been knobless. I finally got around to getting some new ones for a very reasonable price off eBay. I say reasonable, as the reason they were so cheap is now very apparent!!! I was going to request a refund or something, but I’m finding it funny, so perhaps I’ll keep them on.

So, the name. I was going to call it a Jaguar. But it’s not. Is it a Jazz? Got the right neck. Is it a Talman? It’s got the wrong neck! Had also thought about not trying to hide the cockups or previous holes etc. No solid ideas though. Flash forward to a couple of days ago, my wife walks in to the kitchen with a broken dish (kids don’t respect anything!!). Says we should fix it with gold glue, like the Japanese tradition. “Eh?” said I. A quick google gives me the full story, and also the name that will adorn the headstock; Kintsugi!!!

I love a “pimp my amp” - there should be more! Maybe a nice new cabinet would give you the opportunity to place a port in a more preferable location?

Body done! Well, sort of. I still have to fill the ding on the lower edge by the control plate (already present when I bought it), two original scratchplate holes, either edge of the bridge pickup, and some chips I made along the way (yoink). The scratchplate turned out way better than I hoped. Had to sand it as well as scrape as my one blade gave up quite quickly. There is a gap around the control plate, but it’s not that bad. Conductive paint applied - covered all the dodgy woodwork! Copper shielding applied to the back of the plate too. Just waiting for the neck to dry. The face of the headstock is still patchy, so might need another couple of coats. Push comes to shove I can always paint it!

Ha! I am lacking most refinements, but you’ll be glad to know I do drill pilot holes! Cant wait to crack on with this in the morning.

Decent afternoon of progress. Found the scratchplate! Fitted it, measured, cut, fitted, measured, cut, etc. Then sand to make sure the lines flow. Finally I have the curves I wanted! Next up, scrape the edges with a Stanley blade. Genius idea, @Maude - worked a treat! Firstly I marked a 2mm line all the way around so I knew how far to scrape to (using a sharpie taped to a pencil and ramming a screwdriver in to get the correct distance from shaft to tip (shnarff)). I put a bit of copper strip under the bridge, along with some silver hifi speaker cable for the new earth wire. Bridge now on for good. Also had to put another block of wood in the cavity so the control panel can fix to something. Made a nice big hole in it so I can thread the neck pickup wire through it, then realised it could have just run along the side. Doh. My Heath Robinson approach is evident here with the use of spanners to assist the clamp in holding the block in place 😂😂
