  1. I’ve got a ki0gon loom in all 4 of mine. I suppose if you buy a top quality bass with top quality parts you won’t need it, but the components were upgrades for each of mine, so made a noticeable (jv p) to very noticeable (Hohner Jack & a bitsa based on a lower quality squire), and pleasing, difference in all 4 basses.
  2. If you do, put some sort of tracking device on it so you don’t lose it on a dark stage. Looking forward to the results here!
  3. Ooh, that’s nice!
  4. Spent the evening looking for bullet basses now. Man this place is a bad influence!!!
  5. That is a very neat/sleek looking instrument. Me likely. I wonder what it would look like with a black scratchplate?!
  6. I had an active Hohner Jack. I pulled the active circuit (a known weak link) and dropped a KiOgon loom in - night & day difference. However - I already knew the pickups were good to go for passive applications. If you can find that out for yours, you can crack on. Might not be as night & day for your bass though, as the Hohner Jack circuit was old enough to have kids in big school.
  7. So this is where guitars go to die. Always wondered.
  8. I like the crazy inlays.
  9. Nice looking bass. And you say it plays well, so it must be an enjoyable object to own.
  10. The 6-8 week process - is that for the finish on the bass, or you to be finished with the bass and sell it on for another?!

How does it balance with the extra weight at the headstock?
  12. Love it! Nicely proportioned, and look at all dem lines!!
  13. Odd thing about the postage. But that is a lovely looking instrument.
  14. Sorry to hear about your dad. Really good that you had a focus/outlet in the bass building - always need to look after yourself, too.
  15. That mint one lying down is a beauty! Did you do a build diary thread for that one, too?
  16. I love it! What are you doing with the neck? Headstock face to be the same colour blue?
  17. What’s the height in that room? Looks like you could put a foot of loft insulation across the entire ceiling and have the ultimate bass trap!
  18. 4.7cm is quite thick? Taking it down to 4cm (seems to be what all mine are) you’d get the weight down to around 2kg. What is the target body weight?
  19. Looks lovely - great colour and you can’t go wrong with roasted maple. Such an awkward looking headstock though. Smaller tuners would be more visually balanced, methinks.
  20. No, no - he binned the bass and is taking up didgeridoo. He bought a card one because it’s cheaper and he doesn’t spit much.
  21. You said you’d never sell it, so resale concerns go away. You said you’d pay a pro to do the routing. You’re after a certain sound and you know how to get there. I say do it!
  22. Perspex body?

New knob day! Since accidentally breaking the preamp on my Hohner Jack, and subsequently fitting a passive loom (courtesy of @KiOgon), my Jack has been knobless. I finally got around to getting some new ones for a very reasonable price off eBay. I say reasonable, as the reason they were so cheap is now very apparent!!! I was going to request a refund or something, but I’m finding it funny, so perhaps I’ll keep them on.
  24. ...and what’s the weight, please?
