    I had my first practice using a compressor and found I could play faster and with less effort, and there was not much benefit in "digging in".

    There are loads in bands around Oxford. Only last night i saw a band called Ciphers at the Jericho playing post-rock with female singer and bassist. Jolly good they both were too.

    I use a passive d.I. box on the speaker out of the ctm15 , the speaker then connects to the through jack, and you can feed the xlr output to whatever power amp you choose. I use it like that for recording to get the power stage break-up sound. Apparently, the box (I use a Studiospares dual passive) is good for amps up to 100watts, and has a 3 level attenuator to tame the output to match what you're feeding into. For recording, the 20dB setting is perfect when running the amp quite hard.

    Using round wound strings would probably help, as I always find the saddles need to move further south when switching to flats.

    The place i played with my ctm 15 was not big, small p.a. for vox, small drum kit. I played through two Barefaced 12" cabs, Midgets old and new. Not too loud, but it was all there. I just had a practice using my newly acquired TC Spectracomp, and that sounded quite a lot louder, and still clean. Ish!

    Good point - I'm sure fret buzz is more noticeable when the strings are new, as the fret rattle has more high frequency content. Nobody will hear it when the band is rockin out anyhow!

    Have you checked that it isn't the odd high spot on those two frets? Try rocking a credit card on the particular string and fret it is happening, I've had cheap guitars that have had odd peculiar high spots not across the whole fret.

    It's easy enough to check if it's one fret that's high. Just use a credit card and see if it rocks on the suspected high fret and the two either side of it. It shouldn't rock even slightly. Use either the short or long side of the card depending on where the fret is you're checking, so that it only spans the two frets either side of the one you're checking.

    When I was looking into getting a CTM 15, I seem to remember reading something from Ashdown along the lines of "15 watts of all valve power", which, technically, is correct, as the phase splitter and power stage IS all valve! I've used it for recording bass and guitar, and like the sound it makes, but, since they are using a solid state front end, I'd have preferred a proper 3 band +/- 15dB eq over the old fashioned valve-style interactive eq. And like Bigwan here, am not sure about the tone change as you wind the gain up. I've also gigged it twice using 2 12" cabs and I liked it!
