1. a LAG?
2. I'm pretty sure my luthier has an MB150. When I was last over there he told me some interesting things about it. His is an old one, so this may not apply to yours. They have a switched-mode power supply that can be problematic. He is an electronic engineer by trade and took it to a fformer colleague who is a guru. After searching out the schematics, he said it's a surprise it works. The design looks like it was done by an inexperienced grad and had some fundemental design flaws. Short of it is, he substantially redesigned it for him and it is now working fine.
3. the frets above 15 are only for decoration, it's no surprise they don't work properly
4. What amp are you going to use?
5. I imagine cutting an "omega" style cut-out in the arse end would change the balance too. But what the heck, looks cool as....
6. Any reviews of it at gigs yet?
7. A coffee table?
8. John McCoy out of Zzebra (and Gillan, Mammoth etc) Richard Sinclair - Hatfield and the North, Camel Roger Glover -no mention yet? Cripes
9. Chrome? Pics!
10. One thing I think is always overlooked when talking about recording guitars loud is the interaction between the speaker and the guitar itself. I used to love recording my SG on the verge of feedback, and that's one thing you just don't get with any of these setups. I know not everyone will be looking for this sort of sound/style, but if you are, I came up with a nice solution. I ran the amp output into a small speaker and tied it to the head of the guitar. You dont need a lot of juice going to the speaker to get the guitar to resonate in a beautiful, controllable feedback manner. It was a delight to play, until the speaker gave up, just needed to give it less beans!
11. Hi all someone posted this on my local music forum, Nightshift: "Morning, I have an Ashdown Evo II 500w head but the bloody handle has snapped off... any idea from where I can purchase one? Ashdown themselves do not have any for my particular amp head Cheers" If there are useful replies, I'll post a link back to them. Cheers Jules
12. You're lucky to find such a nice bit of ash under that black stuff. Very nice work.
13.
Ped, you need to do that 'point to the horizon' thing that they do in bad catalogues. oh, and a matching female model would be good too.
Hah... like any bass player on here is going to know a hot female model
14.
Very kind offer, thanks Karl. There are lots of nice people on this forum! Bob
...and you're one of the best of them Bob! I've bought 3 basses from Bob (so far!) and he's an absolute gent in every respect.
15. The Jack Bass (Hohner) are really teriffic value for money and a really comfortable shape to wear. The tone tends to quite an organic, woody sound, but can do "modern" sounds with a tweak of the eq. I used to run mine passive. The neck cross section is quite round and deep by modern standards, and narrower than a "P" at the nut, but good to play for long periods. And they never go out of tune, just like the B2As you've seen. The ones with humbuckers probably get nearer to the P tone, but the pickup placement isn't quite the same. That said, you do get more tonal flexibility, even with the passive models. For what you can pick them up for 2nd hand, it's worth trying one, you won't lose money if you sell it on. They do make nice fretlesses too if you whip the frets out. Only caveat: check there is enough adjustment on the truss rod.
16. I've got a friend who has a Trace Elliot preamp that he may well sell. Its just like the amp heads in size and form but just without the amp section. I think he thought it was an amp when he got it... (well he IS a guitarist!) That would do the trick for you!
17. There's a Superfly going for £120 on Oxford's Nightshift message board: http://nightshift.oxfordmusic.net/phpbb/vi...c372b4defe305b2 seems a good deal, and exactly what you're after! You might need to read some threads about how to run them without overheating, but still. Bargain!
18. In answer to the original question, I'd have to say head, as my Mrs. is rubbish at cabinet.
19. Those bridges have adjustable string spacing, like a headless Sei.
20. Have you shrunk since post #5? (I'd probably have had it if it was shrimp sized!)
21.
Old school phone lol
Yeah, it's relic'd and got mojo. It's there to give you an idea of the size in case YOU thought 3" was bigger than that.
22. I think it may be the higher frequencies you find appealing, so you might be better off just starting with adding a tweeter of some sort external to the cab and leaving the cab well alone. As others have said, you may make the cab worth less, though not necessarily worthless (to you!) I added my own "bright box" on top of my Compact cab and am really pleased with the result so far (one gig in). See the recent thread "DIY Bright box"
23. I'll jump in here as Bill is probably still in bed! The order of the filter is the steepness of the slope at which it cuts off at the filter frequency. The higher the order, the steeper the slope.
24. Well, I tried it out on a gig last night - I really liked the sound, and the bandmates did too! I'm not playing any slap, for which this would work really well incidentally, but the attack of the notes when you dig in is nice if you want it, and rolling the passive tone off to about 2/3rds takes it back to "normal" when the click isn't required. I love the Compact, but find (so far!) that this gives the extra dimension in tone I was looking for, and 1 seems plenty loud enough, I really cant see any need for 2 with 1 cab. Here's some pics, In typical fashion, it's not finished cosmetically, I built it at lunchtime, gigged in the evening. I'll probably knock the rough edges off sometime. It's got Velcro now to stick it to the Amp to stop it jumping around:
