1. I own the PA... I charge the band for hire
2. Yeop... thats them
No, that would have been Squier Strings.
3. Wasn't Squire originally a String brand when Fender purchased?
4. Another +1 for Allianz here.
5. I'd say he was in the right ball park. Powermate 1000 MK3 gor for around £1000-1200 secondhand depending on the nick and SX300 around £300 per pair. So about right.
6. Ha... Cheers. Where in the country are you? I'll let you know when we are local
7. We'll be on at 4pm on the Ricky Tick Stage if anyone is around.... Retrofest Newbury Show Ground
8. Wattage is irrelevant, look at the continuous and SPL ratings
9. Perseverance I'm afraid....practice with basic rhythms and songs.
10.
Clever. The cash is worth less so it doesn't cost you as much.
Ha... you could look at it like that
11.
That's brave; most of our suppliers are 'monitoring the situation'. IMHO, that's the biggest problem for the next couple of years at least: there's so much opportunity for insecurity hence instability that many are just sitting on their hands.
Well to be fair we haven't increased prices over the past two years. Plus we are running a cash back promo on our most popular lines at the moment
12.
Out of interest, is that a typical covers band set list? I ask as there are only 2 bands on the list I've actually heard of! I knew I was out of touch, but I didn't know how far!
I've depped with around 15 covers bands over the past year and the majority of their sets are made up with these songs. The only one on their I havent encountered is the Tiao Cruz number..... all the rest pretty much feature. It's affectionately known around our area as the Mcdonalds Menu (there's a band on every street offering these songs)
13.
I think prices will increase by more than you think.
Not sure... We've just had to issue a 6% increase on USA and German products and thats now fixed for a year
14.
no Crez! I should rephrase that to not everybody gets paid to play music they love. Op clearly doesn't enjoy that kind of music, however it's a standard set list for a lot of weddings. The clients will pay to hear what they love, unfortunately not what the bass player enjoys playing. ive been lucky that I've earned a living playing music, although playing ballroom on a cruise liner didn't fulfill me musically. my point if you are being offered decent money to play music, you are very lucky to be in that situation and perhaps for the time being,he can just enjoy playing, which is what we're all here for. cheers
I was gonna say, its a bit of a bleak outlook lol
15.
Nobody gets paid to play music they love
Do you really believe this?
16. I dont see an issue I think if someone is prepared to spend 1k plus on a bass the another 5-10% aint gonna put them off
17. Did anyone buy into Philips DCC format? was going to be the next big thing at one time. I still have the player.... best thing about it was that it had an optical output so you could put a standard tape in and transfer it easily. I backed up loads of my old tapes to CD
18. I have mine pretty flat but cut upper mids and boost lower mids. Everything else is flat. Used with a Status Kingbass 5string into 2 x 12" Aggie
19. GK MB500...... Played a festival yesterday to 15k people...... plenty of volume through the 2 x 2x12" Aguilars for on stage monitoring. What else do you need?
20. Get a contract sorted. We ask for 25% on booking confirmation and the rest paid in full two weeks before the big day. That way the band get paid and fuel covered
21.
But it's still crap in comparison to other big companies. It probably looked great when the directors signed it off but it's terrible as an end user. I think GuitarGuitar has the best site around in the UK, Thomann if you include Europe.
PMT always focus on Bricks and Mortar first..... Dolphin Music is their online business
22. You can't do much better than Mr H. http://philhilborne.co.uk/
