Mine extends from near the neck to the P pickup, almost 3 1/2" long, so it tended to rotate on one screw. Hence the tape. Did not want to drill another mounting hole. I always aim to make any mods reversible.
The adhesive may react though....
Quite possible on 60's material.

Did something similar on my P using a pickguard screw . Never liked using the pup as a thumb rest. I used a piece of rosewood. If you add double sided tape (the very thin stuff you peel the backing off) it will not slip around and scratch the plate. The screw need not be over tight then..

Are you a vol/vol or a vol/pan kinda player?
pfretrock replied to Damonjames's topic in Bass Guitars
I've always been a vol + pan guy but now I'm really feeling the vol + vol + 3 way selector (recent Ric convert).
I've just rewired my Tele bass to vol + vol + tone by adding a second vol. It was vol + tone + 3 way selector. Now it is wired similar to a ric, the redundant 3 way switch now used to switch in two hi pass filters on the bridge pickup. An improvement on the slightly muddy neck pickup all or nothing 3 way switch. -
Mini pots - what's that all about?
pfretrock replied to Jono Bolton's topic in Repairs and Technical
True on not, it appealed to my sense of conspiracy.
There is a lot of it about. Guitar pots are nothing special, just standard electronic components made by dozens of manufacturers. A common size was 1 inch, but I've not seen these for years (I worked in electronics for decades). Most pots are around 20-23mm, this seems to be the standard. Mini pots are common now (16mm), everything in electronics is getting smaller. And I suspect they are cheaper. Certainly the last few I got were rather poor and noisy! The control route in my Squier is about 31mm wide and in my Telebass 27mm. So almost any pot will fit. You'd have to be careful aligning the tags with the route to prevent shorts on the screening and this may make assembly cheaper/quicker for minipots. -

Very nice bass. Don't know why Fender never really did many (any other?) 32s. I've just got a 32" Squier Tele bass, but CAR not an option :-(
Maybe I will strip it down and wax the wood.
Might be engineered from 2 or 3 chunks of basswood - anyone ever done this? What does it look like?
-
What do you think of the bridge? Its a bit chunky for a tele I think. Makes me want to change the paint job.
I thought about replacing the bridge, but doubt if there is a drop in replacement available for the mounting holes. Heaviest bbot I've ever seen though. Yes colour options are a bit bland. Main reason I got it was the 32 inch scale and the P-like neck. Short scales seem to be smaller nut size. Also have a HB shorty P which is also a wide neck

Another Squier Telebass. Slightly modified: additional volume pot one for each pickup, chrome knobs replaced with black (never liked chrome!), 3 way Tele switch rewired as a two position high pass filter on the bridge pup. (thought original wiring was a bit 'muddy' on the neck pup). TI flats.
I find a magnifying glass makes seeing the shape of the nut slot easier.
Same for fret crowning - or am I just getting old..... use the finest grade paper you can find,it will cut slower and give a smoother finish. If the paper is too sharp, you can blunt it by rubbing against itself.
I've got La Bella 760s on my hofner violin bass. It just goes thud. Lovely. Some sort of picato flats on my epiphone jack Cassidy. It just goes thud. lovely.
I have Status Hotwire flatwounds on a short scale. They go thud. Cheap enought to try, but rather stiff compared to more expensive flats.
.... Richard Branson would've done
Really? Can you get him to stop sending me virgin junk mail Must admit I've had no ParcelForce problems (yet). I get it delivered to work and Thomann usually arrives within 36 hours of landing in the UK. I do have mail problems though and go paperless on as much stuff as possible (mainly as I have a neighbour who is a complete A**hole) Glad the bass worked out OK, it looks a good 'un.
..Doused in KY jelly....
This saved me from identity theft once - I used it to free up a jam in a paper shredder. I usually use olive oil - err for the paper shredded.

Must have been the early 70s, Hawkwind and The Pink Fairies were sharing a gig or stage and billed in (probably) a NME advert as PinkWind. Don't google it.
I've got an old Wilson guitar with the 'zero fret' and I've always thought "what a good idea" no more fannying around cutting the nut to exactley the right depth, I've often wondered why it's not more widely used.
Possibly so they can sell you the most exotic nut material, to match that exotic 'tonewood'. You could always drop the tuning, capo on the first fret and you have a 32" scale zero fret.
Low viscocity super glue 0.49p from Maplin - http://www.maplin.co...osity-20g-n56bz
B&*%^£r never found this. Tried Farnell, RS, industrial suppliers. Low viscosity is unusual as its for pre-assembled glueing which needs a closer manufacturing tolerance, as it only fills small gaps (0.1mm) Thanks!
I used a low viscosity glue...
I found this hard to find at a decent price, most stuff is thick, intended to be applied to surfaces and brought together and probably too thick for this purpose. Did find some at a luthier supplier (for fixing loose frets), which seeps into gaps.
