1. Can't help you as I am a creative desert.....but I find I'm quite good at working on other's material with them to improve it. You could try taking some of your existing material, or just songs you like and creating new arrangements, tempos, keys etc...that might help? I've heard lots of writers, songwriters, etc say they are never far from a recording device so they can hum a tune that's just popped into their head and come back to it later....hope that helps. The song I wish I'd written is 'Beautiful' sung by Christina Aguilera, written by Linda Perry......gorgeous song...and gorgeous singer
 2. DOD FX25B Envelope Filter in as new condish with box (no psu) As favoured by Flea, it makes some lovely squelchy sounds but it's just not for me £45 posted for a cash sale Would trade for Ibanez Airplane Flanger
 3. Just picked up one of these off of ebay for £45 A great multi-purpose amp which will take xlr and jack inputs, has 5 channels, some built in effects and is built like a tank I'll be using mine for the acoustic stuff I do and for open mic nights and gigs in small pubs etc If you spot one for sale and need something versatile, you could do worse https://www.amazon.co.uk/Laney-AH200-Audiohub-Amplifier-x/dp/B000S6G94M
 4.
As regards acoustic guitars I'd recommend only one and not just because they're hand made in my home town here in N.Ireland but because they're perfect. The name? Lowden.Absolute perfection.
You won't get one for £500 though!
 5.
Welcome to a pretty friendly bunch. I hope you enjoy this little place in our heart we call basschat
Some of us ain't that pretty....but we're all friendly
 6.
Yep i know as that's how i've always played it but Trevor shows you how he played it on the VID i posted around 54mins into VID. Tried it his way and it never sounds right but as many have quoted above just play it how you think it should be played as most won't notice the diff. Dave
Agreed. G# A G#.
 7.
Sure no problem. I've recently changed my set up and at the moment I'm using a Darkglass 900 head with the B3K switched on. It can produce a nice mildly distorted overdriven effect. I also use that combined with a Cog Custom Grand Tarkin Bass Fuzz for Fame so that the bass pretty much owns the space in that song.
Thanks for this, is your bass active or passive....seems to make a lot of difference to some pedals I've tried.
 8.
Ah thanks. Very kind of you. I domlove a nice hat
Can I ask what pedals you're using, particularly to reproduce Trevor B's overdriven EB3 sound? I too am in a Bowie Tribute band. I've got a couple - Triton-labs Dual fet, a Rodenberg gas dual something. I've also tried a Lehle Baswitch sonic spark
 9. Welcome to Basschat.....and my compliments on your stable of basses!
 10.
Excellent, thanks for posting.
+ 1
 11.
Ah, I see. Crossed wires. Apologies. As we were 👍
I checked out your website....cool site and it seems we have a shared love of hats!
 12. I have a Hipshot A-style 4 string bridge surplus to requirements Fitted it on my Farida Jazz - big improvement over the BBOT £50 posted to UK except highlands
 13.
*looks at topic title* Sometimes I play a J, sometimes a J#
Arf Arf...nice one!
 14.
Hey! This is one of the ones I was checking out last night actually! Cheers for the input Zo x
No wuzzers....if you get one let us know what you think....been thinking about popping for one
 15. The Chowny Fuzzster gets good reviews and some love on here. It's 50 quid ish too and looks well cool http://chownybass.com/product/fuzzster-bass-fuzz-pedal/
 16. A very interesting thread this. I've realised I'm not a smiler and have a facial expression while playing which is a cross between Larry Grayson and a constipated goat! Note to self...smile a bit more!
 17.
I realise there are exceptions, Daltry and Jagger etc, but Macca isn't one of them, it's painful to hear him trying to hit the high notes these days
I think Daltry is struggling too...mind you a lot of WHO songs are very high and hard to sing and hard to transpose without tuning down a semi-tone. Jagger seems to be as good as he always was (maybe better?)
 18.
Great thanks..now Ive got to learn it, your fault!
You'll be thanking me....it's a peach. I play the opening 8 bars at the 12th fret if that's any help
 19. Jules bought my Markbass Compressore. Easy straight forward deal with no hassles. + we discovered we are both in David Bowie tribute bands!
 20. They've left out 'mojo' by Muddy....great song and a real crowd pleaser with the call and response
 21. G# I reckon. That's what I play anyway and the rest of the band haven't locked me out the rehearsal room yet....I too am in a Bowie Trib band and I agree, Trev Boulder's work has gone under the radar....bit like Mick Ronsons'. Just wait til you get to 'Heroes' now that is some bassline!
 22.
I've been asked if i would be interested in playing bass in a Rock n Roll type oldies band, they have somewhere around 60 odd songs that they play, and i've been given a list to see how i would get on with them ,now i am a novice as some of you may know. Not really into rock n roll fan really ,i'm a 70s type music man to be fair. Given the fact that some of you guys are well clued up on such matters i am open to some suggestions as to how you lads might approach this.I wasn't really expecting the offer their regular bassist has taken ill and can't play anymore so it may be that they are stuck for someone so they've asked me,and i'm flattered to be honest, only been playing a year. ?What do you lads reckon.
Go for it...you'll only regret it if you don't. You can nail the root notes to start with and work in more complex stuff as your technique and confidence grows. I was in a blues band and was frequently asked to curtail my bass lines and play 'bomp bomp bomp' on the root note. Not great creatively, but really worked with the songs we played. Listen to what the drummer is doing and sync your playing with the beat he's laying down and you won't go far wrong...and playing live is one of the best things you can do in a darkened room with your clothes on!
