1. Plyed through one of these at rehearsal tonight https://www.andertons.co.uk/ashdown-rootmaster-c115t-500-evo-500w-1-x-15-combo Very impressed with the sound allthough didn't get to push it and played with all the controls flat You need a head torch to see the control labels in anything but good light but apart from that it looks like a winner. Be an interesting comparison with a markbass combo We rehearse at Pirate Studios so you might come across one if you do to (there are a few dotted around the country). Given the retail I'm guessing that Ashdown have dished a few out at below cost to places like pirate. In case you haven't heard of Pirate Studios https://www.piratestudios.co.uk/ If it's still there next week I'll try and run it through it's paces and report back
2. comfortably numb was epic last night....mind you they saved it for the encore the little tinkers
3. Saw these guys at De Montfort Hall in Leicester last night. If you like Floyd I would advise catching these guys on their current tour if you can, the standard of musicianship was exceptional + the light show is fantastic. http://www.aussiefloyd.com/
4. There will always be dreamers, it comes with the territory. Joined my current band from an ad on JMB so it does work. Gumtree has a section, look for Music Bands & Musicians in the Community section. I've also used Bandmix and got an audition out of it - turned out not to be the band for me but it was a genuine ad. Then there's facebook groups where you often see posts for band members wanted. Postcards in local music/record shops is well worth a try imo.
5. I've been thinking about getting hammered......but at my age it's the 3 weeks recovery that is daunting Being serious, I'm thinking about keyboards, having played piano as a yoof and having a Yamaha keyboard in the attic. Keyboards is not very unusual in the instrument dept but anyway...
6. A few of the above. currently Jean Genie with my current band https://www.facebook.com/missbowieband/ and for open mic acoustic stuff I do 'Hit me baby one more time' ......usually goes down a storm (don't do the twerking tho')
7.
What if you agreed to do it but then pull out last min?
Gigus interuptus!
8. Had a Sire v7 Jazz for a short while. It was a 5 string which I moved on becuase I couldn't get on with 5 strings - nothing to do with the bass itself. Build quality and sound is excellent for the money - knobs are a bit cheap feeling. Tuners were fine A lot of bass for the money and very well finished
9. Welcome! Nice gear list, some quality there! Basschat is a great forum and the various threads will keep you amused for hours. And then of course there's the time spent 'gassing' over gear you don't need but really really want! You'll end up poor (in both time and money) but happy after exposure to chatters. Or as my son likes to call it, 'that fish forum'
10. I have 3 tickets for Aussie Pink Floyd for Monday 23rd Oct De Montfort Hall Leicester Face value is £39.00 per ticket Would consider a close offer for all 3 Would need to be someone in the localle as it's too late to post Tickets in Nottingham (West Bridgford)
11. Sire 5 string - which I've just sold. Lovely bass, very well made and a great sound - I now know I don't do 5 strings. Just thinking about that big wide neck gives me nightmares!
12.
I enjoy practicing, or at least getting together with the band and making music. We're a covers band and as long as we have new material on the go its generally good fun. I like gigging too. Playing to an enthusiatic crowd is a great buzz. Whether the arse ache of actually getting the gigs, setting up, stripping down and everything that goes with it is worthwhile ........ The money is irrelevant and barely covers costs. Everyone in the band agrees we do not want to be gigging every week. Our ideal schedule would be 10-12 gigs a year. If I was doing originals I'd probably gig even less.
I like practicing, but find it more fun when I'm working towards something for a gig. Gigging is great - don't much like the strip down afterwards but it's better than sitting at home watching dross on the telly

I'll be in London on 25th Nov
14.
Here is a pic; with top & bottom so has all the info I have on it! https://photos.app.g...Aa4ViLEqwQgbtK2 HTH
I think I was the former keeper of this pedal. Really nice pedal and very well made...worked best with passive basses I found (which I don't have any of)
15. At least he behaved himself on stage but in my book that's a 'removed by the bouncer' offence. Did a gig once in Nottm and a load of Blades* fans came in before we started. They started trying to get on the mic and sing to their mates - our sound guy rugby tackled one of them and threw him back into the crowd. It got very tense - we were backs to the wall with no obvious escape route - and it looked like we were done for (there were at least 20 of them). Calm quickly followed when two police helmets (being worn by policemen, obvs) appeared at the back of the room (called in by the Landlord who knew there would be trouble). Phew.....had visions of taking my bass off and swinging it like a club to ward off the kicking we were clearly in for. It was my lovely black Rickenbacker 4001 (another in a long line of 'shouldn't have sold it' basses) so I'm glad it didn't have to double up as a weapon. *Sheffield Utd
16.
Again, personally I don't see that and I don't get the sense anyone here is suggesting anyone is any less of a musician if their not gigging. We all gig and don't gig for different reasons. One of the primary reason I gig is to bring a little happiness to people when the work week is done and they merely want to relax, have fun and a good time. We had a marginal crowd at best Saturday night. But there was this one older women who looked like she hadn't been out for a while. She was smiling, totally focused on the band rocking in her seat. Just watching her puts why I gig into perspective. Blue
We did a gig a couple of weeks back at a local place (The Maze) on a local bands night where each band gets 30 minutes. A total of 3 people turned up but they had a great time and told us so afterwards. It would have been great if the place was full but even so we thought it was worth the effort
17. 'Musician' noun. A person who plays a musical instrument, especially as a profession, or is musically talented. from the OED
18. Bump and price adjustment - think I pitched this too high so I've knocked £20 off
19.
Is this yet another re-hash of the "you're not a proper musician unless you get paid" thread? My mother is a pianist and LRAM, and she spent about 20 years duetting with a friend on the flute - mainly Bach. They never played a concert (even though they were a covers band ), and had absolutely no interest in doing so. It was purely for their own entertainment. Does that mean they weren't proper musicians?
Not at all in my book....
