1. I cant decide if Lady Ga Ga is hot....
2. To update....the bass has been returned. Ive been talking to JTUK and Dave Bass about getting this bass for a long timeee! I was searching for a decent Lakland Skyline DJ5, any colour, any board. Ive tried three new ones now, and the QC was not upto scratch. Ive emailed Dan from Lakland to see if he can help. For now im giving up....Im also not 100% convinced the Lakland tone is perfect for me. The necks and style of the basses are amazing, but Im missing the sheer grunt of a USA Fender! Next plans for a 5 string? Wait for the new Ernie Ball Musicman Classic Series Stingray 5.

LOG BG5

Is it a Skyline? I have tried 3-4 different (Skyline) DJ5's so far, and they have all been 'new'. Not one of them had top notch QC....each one had quite bad faults. My Fenders were finished better, and they are a lot less £'s. I really like Lakland and what they do, but Ive yet to find a DJ5 that is worth the £1200 retail price. I am still looking, and hopefully they will get a new dealer in the UK. Ive even emailed Dan asking him what can be done, but im guessing he is still busy post-NAMM.
4. I'd really like to have The Saturdays gig tbh: http://www.youtube.com/user/thesaturdaysof...u/5/iyIL5pNBMyA I was very interested in ther recent live video which was basically them in awesome underwear. Even the bass players equipment did NOT distract me. That gig has to be perfect!
5. Now thats a seriously nice bass.
6.
could you explain the "new" cab covering issue, I am unclear on this, the guy in the outlet said they could come in, in 2 types?
Sure....no probs The old covering on the RS210/212 is the grey powdery rough coating, and TC got a few complaints about it. Its still alright though! Doesnt affect the sound obviously. They then went through a transition of the same type of material, but an almost black colour, but still matte. The new covering, seen on the RS112/Combo450 cab and I think the RS410 is smoother, shiny and black. Almost like the spray on the Berg AE series. Its much nicer IMO, hence Ive backordered the new finish. They have also apparently changed where the TC badge is placed. TC said they should be shipping the 210s in the new finish in late Feb time...but I dont mind if they are a little later. I think you can order the RS212s in the new finish now, as you can the RS112/Combo450/RS410. Its good to see they actually listenened to the reviews. It makes the cabs very good value if you ask me. They look good, sound great, and are a nice change for the norm. Oh, and they are much more easy to move from what Im used to.
7.
it would be cooler if it had all its knobs too. i used to take the piss out of my mate for buying the best bass on the planet in such a rubbish colour, then i ended up buying one very similar, strangely enough i really like white rays now:)
My mate took the piss out of my MIJ Fender P in Oly White when I first got it when I was 15/16....and yep, I kinda thought 'did I buy the wrong colour?' Now Im 28 and I LOVE white basses, and I think he had poor taste.
8.
unfortunatly i only own the one on the left:(
Now thats what Im talking about.....white mmmm!
9. Yeah, the combo is a good idea for those who want small or just the vertical stack, but I like the idea of all separate. Obviously a Mesa Walkabout would change my mind, but the RH is a damn good amp. I cant wait to get my cabs now.
10. My problem is, I cant find anything I like as much as the new Fenders, or Ernie Ball. Vintage ones would be the next step I guess, but I love new gear. God knows I tried to try new manufacturers, all this year in fact. Lakland, Sadowsky, Warwick, Spector, tried them all out, and a few different models. Still come back to the old fashioned Stingray/P/J. I intend to get a Stingray 5 at some point....so still not going for anything different.
11. One day when I have more space, a Matamp 2x12 and GT200 will be put on order. I tend to find the bands that use them are usually on the dirty blues/metal/hardcore type of thing. But, thats just as those scenes dig Matamp....im sure like most amps/cabs they can be used for whatever you like.
12. Hmm...there will be options, but I always choose Orange for dirt dirt dirt Im sure there is a way around it...passive bass?
13. Definitely....awesome combo. If I didnt already have too much I would have gone for this.
14. woooooooaaaaaahhhhh Best colour ever
15. That's a really good video, best demo I've seen of an amp for a long time. I'll be picking one up no doubt mid 2010. I've heard that Orange want the 1000 watt version out for April. The gain on that little amp is fantastic!
16. Ive never understood he high prices on some of the Warwick gear. I can see the wood is awesome, but...
17. Im shocked an Ampeg owner hasnt gone for this tbh....its a good trade!
18. Combo cabs! http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~T...0C~ID~13116.asp TBH, im not bothered about the space for the amp. Good idea, but its surely just easier to have them all separate?!
19.
Again, not the best photos - just my rubbish phone still
That is a stunning colour. I HIGHLY recommend a flight case for it. Probably be £150 but money well spent. Is it built to have a really dirty tone?!
20. The pre 2008/09 (2000 onwards) USA Fender's were overpriced and I had the misfortune to have a dog of a Jazz about 6 years ago that went STRAIGHT BACK. There are of course some excellent S1 switching models around though. Im bowled over by the new Fenders...they are fantastic.
21.
I had to wait months between my current band and my last band. It was disheartening replying to loads of bassist wanted ads and getting knock-backs (all on account of my very advanced age, 44 at that time! "sorry mate but we like going to pub on a Friday and we don't think someone your age would fit in" etc). I carried on playing at home and eventually got an audition for my current band and we have been going strong for two years now. Just hang in there and like the other posters have said, play along to good music and you will be fine
This is good advice. Im inbetween bands now, but eventually you WILL find what YOU want. Just give it some time, and dont give up!
22. I still havent found a 5 string im 100% happy with. The Lakkie neck is great, but the SR5 neck is also nice. I am going to give the search a rest for now. Im quite tempted by the new EB MM Classic Series Stingray 5.
23. I think with three TC cabs the head is allowed to run at just above 2 ohms, but because TC designed the cabinets, and they know their exact, you are only allowed to use three TC cabs. If its another manufacturer, the standard 4 ohms minimum applies. If you ask me, they are a very good price, and they still have the proper ceramic thump. Ive heard + and - about which combination to use, but despite the 'dont mix drivers' argument, the 210 + 212 sounds fantastic. I have gone for 2 2x10 for now as I want to have a vertical 4x10, (the more punch side of things). I would like an RS212 to mix with them....but thats further down the line. TBH, at £469 for the 2x12, thats REALLY cheap.
