1.
Did you post on the wrong thread? Not a single person has mentioned 'clinical tone', apart from you!
Uncoloured / flat - can come across clinical. I think without input from Jim Bergantino and/or Genz, this whole thread is rather unfair. I think we should put the 'complaint' about the Berg cabs into context.
2. PS - I've been deciding between the GB and Berg for a few weeks. Still not sure which to buy.
3. Surely it doesn't matter if its a little coloured, as long as its a good, well built cabinet with a nice tone. All this talk of clinical tone makes me think no one wants a personality!
4.
Not heard about Fender winding up the brand, but you could ask Mansons
Apparently its due the end of 2013, along with (quite stupidly) Genz Benz. However, word on the street is that the Genz chaps will be working on new lightweight amps with Fender, (so basically re-branding the line).
5. Hi Graham I'd act fast as apparently they are going to be shut down soon.
6.
This sums up my set-up to a T!!!! It's a cruel irony that I love all of these elements but they just won't play nice with each other.
Ay, its something I never thought would even exist until I came on here more regularly and discussed it with KJung on Talkbass. It's quite mad that you have to pair up the right amp/cab, but I guess that's why I often buy the matching cabs with an amp...if they are something I like. J basses are sometimes a real pain for me. I love the solo tone, and I can get the pups solo'd to work in a mix, but the traditional Jazz all on tone just disappears for me...hence I barely ever gig a J bass. I
7. I doubt I'd dare buy anything from them now, in case anything was to happen to them again. It's a very tough time for retail at the moment, but what is also bad for the economy in general is that events like this put people off buying, even with credit card protection. I've almost been in this situation twice, so I'm extremely cautious now.
8. I tend to struggle once you have a mid dip cab, a bass heavy amp, and a jazz bass! Mid dips all over the place. Sounds nice though.
9.
So are the CN and the HD in the same size box?
From the pics, it seems the CN 212 and AE 212 are different sizes...not sure on the HDs.
10.
Are they really going to be selling Sandbergs at £800-£850? That's going to screw over the UK distributor who has worked really hard to build the brand over here.
Presumably yes, as they are direct from Germany.
11. I understand an amp is for everyone, but there are so many amps with the same small mid dip its unreal...but because it hasn't become an Internet myth (all Stingrays are one trick ponys etc) no one worries. Check out some of the Gallien amps. Most of them have a similar if not more extreme flat tone. The new MBs have a huge low end, lots if aggressive sizzle, and a dip in the mids. Orange, Fender, even Mesa amps can have it too.
12. Probably why I got such an incredibly good price on a product two months back...but to be honest, I suspected this and I got exactly what I wanted and very cheap. The warranty isn't with the store anyway; it's with the UK supplier.
13.
Folks - thanks for all the food for thought. More experiments will continue. I like the bypassing the amp pre and going straight into the power amp idea, but the Streamliner pre really is lovely. There's a softness to it that I'm loving after a lifetime of being a solidstate user. And for that reason I'm finding the Markbass LMK a little too dry sounding now.
I agree. The tone is very warm. Stunning preamp design.
14. I don't find the Streamliner to have a large scoop. Maybe a little one all set at 12, but a few clicks and that's out of the way. If a cab has a mid hole, it's harder to get amps to work with it. Good cabs with a nice mid bump: TC RS cabs GK Neo 115/212 Aguilar DB cabs ...apparently the Berg CNs are great for low mid punch.
15.
They don't mind sticking the G string a bit close to the edge eh
Yep, that looks way off.
16. Could potentially be the start of price wars (those Sandberg prices...wow!) and maybe the sign of what's to come (eg maybe the UK will start having huge superstores owning most the music shops...who knows).
17.
Indeed possibly though I don't want to appear like a complete jerk! plus i will be mailing the whole team thanking them for the thoroughly professional way they dealt with my order from start to finish, I cannot fault the process or the product. And when you come to figure what a new metro costs from guitarguitar this was a very few hundred pounds more all in all, delivered to my door.
Really?! Crackers. Can't believe they are that good a price. What a great bass.
18. Seems like a good time to buy to be honest. If Music Store essentially own it, they can undercut like crazy. Have you seen how cheap those Sandbergs are?!
19. Used Stingray. When I was 13 I wanted a Ray. I got a rubbish copy, but it looked half decent, (awful tone). I still wanted one, then eventually at 18 I landed a job at Virgin Records before I went to Uni, so in my year out I bought a new Stingray. Never looked back to be honest, and I'm 32 now. Still my overall favourite bass guitar. Yes, they are sometimes quite low in price on here, and yes, there are a lot of them. However the very fact you cannot buy a new one for under £1400-1600 (for a new stock, single H, with hardcase, plain headstock) shows that they have recently given them a fairly hefty price increase. Over the years, this will reflect in second hand values. I certainly wouldn't ever sell a mint condition Ray 4 H for under £790 ish. In fact, 2 years back I sold a 10 year old natural Ray H for £850.
20. Whichever way you look at it, the young lady covering bass lines is 'one to watch'...from looking at her comments, she is new to playing with a plec. I think the Ray 5/Ray in general is the perfect all rounder for covers like this.
21.
Mr. Nice chap from Lakland replied to say they frequently offer strings to all their UK dealers, but none take them up on it...
If GG ordered them in, they'd be expensive.
22. MJ did have some odd tracks though, despite his massive success. I've just listened to the two Bruno albums and I think he is one of the best current/modern male popular artists.
23. Sadowsky Metro, Mike Lull, perhaps Sandberg? Those Xotics ARE nice, I agree.
24. Wow!!! That neck!!! Where did you get a PDN 2012?!
