Apparently Fender may have a new line of MIM Classic basses with nitro paint/nice tolex traditional hardcase. I do think they are struggling though despite what we might expect. A lot of people just return them...I bet they have a lot of problems due to the 7 day return rule.
A few years ago I ordered a new Ashown Perfect Ten mini rig, when it came - in original factory packing, the proper UK mains lead was stuffed down the front of the amp causing some serious scratches on the front panel. I phoned to complain & a replacement was checked before sending out for next day, the damaged one collected the day after. All very well sorted by Sounds Live.
Similar incident with a LM3 from another store. The plug took the paint off the back of the amp.
Strange that Fender finish their cashback offer one day and increase prices the next. A new USA standard P hass effectively gone up £125 overnight
Yeah...that's not great

Makes the current Stingray prices seem a little more realistic.
-
Mark at Bass Direct can get these, and quite cheap.
-
Funnier still is to ask the guitarist to play a 5 string bass. I play a bit of guitar and I enjoy it, but it feels a little 'toy-like' compared to bass.
The Israelis refer to today as "the day the English tell lies.."
If they are referring to our Government, that could be any day of the year...
They do have a choice - they choose to maintain (or increase) profit margins instead of taking a slight hit on margins in order to generate better profits through increased sales. They can't keep increasing the price faster than the average person's means. That is not sustainable.
Agreed. This probably applies to many manufacturers in the guitar/bass market.

What a bizarre outcome to the thread,

People will stop buying, like I have. I'm still tempted to buy but I think carefully about it beforehand and usually realise I'm paying too much. In 2010 ish, a mere three years ago, I bought the best American Fender P ive played for under £700, brand new, in the higher priced sunburst colour. It is the latest spec, and I count myself lucky. Now, it would be £400+ extra. Why?!
-
It looks like a budget copy. Awful.

I've used the 450/750 for a few years and I really like the tone of the amps. I would spend time with one if you can. It's a certain tone you may like/not like! Volume and dynamics aren't an issue, IMO, from either of them. In fact, when I had the 450, I felt it had the horsepower to be much louder than its 500w competitors.

Interesting 'movie'! I liked it. Agreed re the Trent/Homme/Grohl section...great! Paul's section was a bit weird...his vocals...why?! I have a lot of respect for Paul but Grohl/etc are pretty heavyweight musicians themselves.

Recommend me a Gibson E335 or Epiphone Casino type guitar!
Aw come on, for approx 700, you want one of these bad boys - (Gretsch G5422TDCG)
Don't tempt me! There is a guitar shop right near my work with a load of Gretsch guitars. I ABSOLUTELY love how they look. I have no idea how good the budget Gretsch guitars are..but if they sound/feel have as good as they look, I'd be happy. -
Boutique 5-string P Bass - Lull, Xotic or Dingwall
Spotted this Super P5 on the Bass Gallery website: http://www.thebassga...e=Bass%20Guitar Don't like the look of it much myself, weird orange tort on the plate, the black knobs don't go, and the body looks out of proportion?
Kinda cool, but needs chrome knobs and a brown tort plate immediately. -
PS - Keep that Clover! Lovely colour.

Thanks all. I realie the two i've referred two are different, but I was just wanting to point in that direction. I think the idea of the P90s appeal as I really seem to get on with single coils on guitars. It would be nice to have a contrast to my Tele, but ultimately, that Casino idea seems great. I need to get to a big guitar shop and try a few out. I am not the best guitarist so I am always daunted by this, in contrast to going in and turning a bass up and playing loudly with no issue. -
Boutique 5-string P Bass - Lull, Xotic or Dingwall
Musicman20 replied to magcom1977's topic in Bass Guitars
...and if we are discussing weight, then every 5 string Lakland I have tried has been ridiculously heavy. I may have been unlucky, but I have tried 5-6 at least over the past 3 years. In contrast my MIA P and, and even my Stingray 5 HS, are very light. Bizarre! -

Musicman20 replied to magcom1977's topic in Bass Guitars
Do you want a normal 34" scale? If so, discount the Lakland. Do you want standard frets? If so, discount the Dingwall. Do you want a pretty normal, but very boutique passive P bass? I'd opt for the Lull, or get a custom one built. Do you want a normal passive 5 string, tradtional sounding/looking P bass? Fender American Standard 5. -
Life's too short Alan. If you want a Jazz get a Jazz and enjoy it
This. Its a relatively inexpensive hobby, compared to say a car enthusiast who will spend £1000s on a new car, for it then to blow its turbo on its first outing, to then cost another £1000 for the parts and labour, (this happened to my close friend). Said close friend still won't pony up for a new Gibson Thunderbird even though he has wanted one for 16+ years since we were kids. That £1000 turbo wasted cash could have been spent on a new bass which would, yes, lose a little money, but an instrument is nowhere near as high maintenance and won't be scrap in 5-10 years. Bass/Guitar/instrument collecting is a good hobby for me. I enjoy playing and I enjoy collecting. I could be wasting it on all sorts of rubbish, but I'd prefer new gear. Get the Jazz, keep the other two. The new American Standards are, IMO, VERY good value for money with the current rebate, (under £1000 for a top spec Fender with a brilliant hardcase).

Time for a little ‘variation’...(maybe Spector?!)
If you're heading to Bass Direct, check out the new G&L M series:
Cheers, would love to but a round trip would be quite expensive from up here -
If you are even considering a USA NS2 or Euro Spector and you are comparing it with your experiences of a Warwick Bolt-On $$ Streamer then that is akin to comparing a Custom Shop Fender 'Jazz' to a MIJ 'Precision'! In fact I struggled to find a comparison that bore a more stark contrast. If you are looking at a NT Euro/NS Spector then it needs to be stacked alongside a NT Streamer. In fact you are just in Newcastle, I'm about 10 mile from you, pop down and try one of my Streamers before you try a Spector then it would be a better/fair comparison. I'm not trying to dissuade you from Spector (I've owned USA NS2 and Euro 4 & 5 strings) but I think you need to compare apples with apples before reaching a decision like that.
Ay! I should take you up on that sometime! Thanks for the info. -
Boutique 5-string P Bass - Lull, Xotic or Dingwall
Musicman20 replied to magcom1977's topic in Bass Guitars
Lets not be hasty with weight/size. The Fender P 5 I played a few months ago was extremely light for a normal American Standard Precision. I would be guessing at 9lbs. They all vary. -

Fender P 5, plus add an Aguilar TH pedal, or a P-retro. Done. Those P5s are fantastic, and not just for the money! -
The construction of those TC cabs worries me. I mean , what type of wood bends to make rounded corners like those ??
The cabs are rock solid. Nicely designed especially considering the size/weight/tone/volume/price.
