Best 2x12 I've experienced so far.

I just absolutely love the body shape of the big E335's/Casino's. It's been years since I wanted a new 6 string, and at the moment its between a Strat, another Tele, or possibly a big ol' Gibson/Epiphone semi-hollow type guitar. Can anyone recommend an Epiphone Casino model? Pref. current. There are about 3-4 versions at the moment. Any other recommendations? I don't want to spend more than about £1000...really....

Put a new ad ups since I posted. Now meeting up with a potential new band. Hopefully...they will be on the right track!

Matt at Fender UK is great. I've dealt with who Lozz mentioned, and had issues. So, never been back. You should definitely get a pack with all the tools mentioned, brochures, key and duster, etc.

Courier issues: Hardcase damaged by Fedex
Musicman20 replied to Faithless's topic in General Discussion
My last bass arrrived with a crack in the case, which could have happened at any point. Luckily it was new, so I just got a new case, but it is, I agree, a total pain. How they break a hardcase is anyone's guess! Good luck. -
I tend to really enjoy bass whether I'm learning alone or gigging. I just love how it sounds and feels. However, I don't think giving up on making your own music is a good idea....ever. Covers bands are fun, but again, it has to be the right band. My last covers band was a lucky break for me, and I doubt I'll get that lucky again to have such a stress free band. My next project WILL be originals material, its as simple as that. In my mind, I've made it (almost) in my career, so I have little desire for a band to become huge. I just want the fun side of it, and to write/record and gig for a few years in a good quality band. I'm aiming for The Smiths/Suede/Kasabian vibe, well away from my usual hardcore punk.
No problem with players who wait for the right band. Myself I would rather set one up myself. Plenty of good players around if you have a good network. Avoid th Internet and unknown musicians.
This might be my approach. Find a good guitarist or vocalist and go from there.
I think I must be really f***ing lucky or something All my bands are a delight to be in, I can exercise my creativity, get funky, get really challenged, all with ace musicians who are a total pleasure to be around. All playing original material of high quality and musical interest. A couple of the bands are old friends, and I found Kit advertising for a bassist on here. It can be done. But you have to look, and luck plays a big part. Just keep going, I'm nearly fifty and playing with the best bands I've ever been a part of. It's got better and better over 30 years. If music is your passion and you have some skills and a good ear, you won't give up, you'll get there eventually.
Nig you don't look your age! Ay, I'm envious, but you have obviously worked at getting into those bands, so all credit to you.

My reasons for currently not gigging are:

STILL waiting for the right band to come along, (not messing about with time wasters or the obvious cover band);
Time is restricted due to my career, (career comes first);
The time off I do have is taken up with getting fit and socialising.
I still have the desire to gig, 100%. I'm just being more picky. Most of us end up like this in our late 20s +. I'm 32 now, and still wanting to play my own music, so I'm going to hang on and keep advertising.

SUNBURST IS THE BEST. OR SUMMITS CLOSE.

PS - A Ric looks great in black. I can almost see myself with a Black/White Guard/Maple Board Jazz in the future.
-
All depends. I have 0 black basses/guitars. I often consider a Stingray in black (again) because EBMM's black is incredibly well painted on. It just seems to have so much sheen and class. But, I find it boring. I rather stupidly think black, especially all black (hardware etc) makes you look like a 'metal head', and as a (hopefully) fairly smart mod about town, I steer clear from anything that associates me with something I tried out when I was 13 and grew out of. White is cool.

I almost had a 5 HS as well as my new 5 HH Bongo. The 5 HS on the Sterling and Stingray, as per the models I have, are stunning. You can definitely get a cool Jazz-ish vibe with it, a proper Musicman tone, and an almost P bass crossed with a Gibson for the more hollow warm neck pup. Of course, all with the Musicman DNA. The Bongo HH seems the most popular by far. I think the only thing putting me off a H is the fact you don't have the 4 band EQ, and I agree, the mid controls are what makes the Bongo so damn brilliant. You can get around this with the H Piezo, but needs another £250!!! The problem I have is that the UK just haven't accepted the Bongo, nor indeed many of the other Musicman shapes, even the Reflex. So, getting one is hard work, especially if you want a different spec (bright colours, piezo, H or HS, 5 or 6). More shops should stock them, like Bass Direct do from time to time. Heck, if there was a shop stocking a 5 HS right now, in the colour I liked, and it was a reasonable price, I would buy it. I just don't want the long wait at the moment, (and that is no criticism, they are just busy).

Nice rig!

I don't understand why there is a lack of new DB112s...although I see that Bass Direct are now stocking Aguilar.

Latest Genz Shuttle 6.2 12T.

I have recently bought one. I think the design/overall style is very modern and cooler than you'd think when you actually have it in front of you. Eg, the body is quite elegant and well thought out. If you get one, don't get a dark colour. Get a very bright colour as it really shows off the design. The pre-amp is very powerful, as are the pups. The neck is very comfy, they play very well, and they sound very 'Musicman'. Disadvantages? - The prices are, as everything else, going up. Not many people 'get' the Bongo.
-
It's an inherent part of the pre-amp/Stingray 4 apparently. I've never noticed it, or had issue with it. Part of why the slapping sounds like it does when you are doing octaves on the A and G strings. Strangely, it never gets discussed with the SR5.
-
Birdseye/flame obvious looks great. I have heard that high ratios of birdseye can lead to an unstable neck, but I wouldn't let it stop me enjoying a bass. However, the OP's photo is a little alarming. I wouldn't have a clue if that is decorative or an issue. I haven't seen anything like that on a high end bass. The age would suggest that perhaps this isn't an issue from the wood....

Dingwall Combustion FD3 Pickup Problem
Musicman20 replied to Jellyfish's topic in Repairs and Technical
Heck...just seen your status. First time I've seen a Dingwall issue to be honest, but with two issues, you need to make sure you are happy with the outcome. -
