1. Could always depend on technique and how much you change the EQ. I lower the bass to 10 ish, mids to 1/2 ish. Perfect! Lovely quality to the tone and build. Excellent treble control.
2. What a stunner!! Why is this still unsold?!?!
3. Plus one on the EQ. Small scoop that can easily be dialed out, just like on a lot of amps like GK amps, etc.
4. RIP
5.
I did read about it but just thought it was generally dealt with in a better fashion than MB. Just to be clear, I'm not knocking Mark Bass gear, I love my Mark Bass cabs.
TC definitely have the edge with service.
6. Ay, I've had two post 2008 American Standards. The first was pretty good, but I sold it on as I found the maple to be a little too glossy for me, (although now I might quite like it). Now, I have a 2011 Sunburst/Tort//Rosewood, and this bass sings! It is beautiful. It does not have the new CS pups, but the pups are brilliant. If I found a similar instrument, P or J, I would buy again, however Fender's QC can be dodgy I'm afraid. Just be careful and check them properly.
7. Nice! Very good value for money as well. A lot of bass for £550...
8. Lovely maple! What happened to the first one?
9. I bet its one of the tubes.
10. Wooop wooop its the sound of the (cab) police....
11. That Ampeg solid state SVT clone....450H?! AWFUL.
12.
In fairness can you imagine if Sibob decided to sell his OC2's
Oh I agree, there are genuine sellers on here. I've just noticed, (with being an ultra cautious buyer) that there were a few sellers who didn't seem so 'genuine'.
13. I would probably be more wary to sell now. I understand the site needs funds to run, but personally I don't sell or buy that often. I agree that the buyer should be charged some/all of the cost of the advert. Many WON'T agree with that though. There are certain basschatters who have, in my eyes, abused the for sale area and basically got 'tat' for a good price from Cash Converters/eBay/seller with less knowledge, then sold it on here for a good profit. I disagree with that. It isn't a shop. In fact, one item that was in no way tat was on here about a year back, I almost bought it, then realised it was actually on a gumtree type site for £150.00 less from a totally different seller in the same area. I found evidence that it was exactly the same item, pointed it out to the seller on here, and then it vanished apart from the advert on here. Literally as soon as I pointed it out. I mean, who honestly has 10 or more old Trace amps, one a week or so, and sells them on here. They were bought for profit purposes only, (I use this as an example).
14. Although I will say, some bassists I have seen just come across as total nerds on stage, especially with weird looking basses or when they barely move. I don't know why, but bass to me seems to attract two types: 1. Cool 'band' types who love the whole rock star 'thing' and really get into it, 2. Nerds. I like to think I'm 1, but I'm probably also a bit of 2.
15.
For me I love dressing up a bit, moving about, and it's partly natural and partly deliberate, but I really love being on a stage. Oddly, it's the place I feel most comfortable and safe, and it's probably because I'm a anxious nervous type of person and consequently I need attention and affirmation. I also grew up on glam and prog rock and that feeds the total tart within me
Although I grew up in a different era, everything else applies to me. Definitely love the stage more than people would realise.
16. The TC RS210 gets my vote for giggable/small/fairly light/compact and a great tone! Very nice coax tweeter.
17.
My Overwater 5 had 19mm spacing so there will be an adjustment period but I actually found that too wide. Anyway, I've just pulled the trigger on a SR5 HH "Honey Roasted" with shell pickguard. What a rush!
Wow, freshly ordered?! That was quick Picsssss!
18.
I was looking forward to my first rehearsal with my new RH450 tonight, until I read this thread!!
Well, after the wattage review, I did have a bit of 'what the...' thoughts about the amp. I then forgot about it, and realised that before these reviews, EVERYONE said the RH450 appeared to have more horsepower than the Markbass LM3/F500 and other higher rated amps, (Genz Shuttle 6.0). Don't get hung up on forum opinions, as these amps were a big hit, and still get great reviews. I still enjoy my RH750; nothing like it on the market. It is like a smaller, more reliable, and well featured Ampeg amp, IMO.
19.
The HH SR5 is a monsterously powerful ( and good ) sounding bass . Just be aware that the string spacing is on the narrow side and on most examples I have ever played the distribution of the strings on the neck is such that the B and particulaly the G string are very close to the edge of the fingerboard .
Ay, I agree. It is 17.5 mm, but since its 'all I know' for a 5 string bass, I've got used to it and started to really enjoy how fast I can play on it. As all my fivers are by EBMM, I don't have to adjust.
20. Absolutely! HH all the way.
21. I'd check out the Aggie DB cabs and take ideas from those...eg the piping, tolex, and cloth.
22. GT200 and two 4x10s. Use your 8x10 cab speakers as you mentioned. Get it voiced how you want. Colour? I love white gear, but white tolex won't stay white for long. I'd suggest perhaps a cool green, slate grey, or indeed black with chrome hardware.
23. Firstly, no matter which you get, the H at the bridge sounds the same. The small variables you do hear would be wood/winding etc and inidividual to each bass, no matter what the pup configuration. Just be aware that from 2008, they went BACK to alnico pickups as per the normal Stingray tone, (ceramic being the Sterling tone). Secondly, if you want to be able to single coil the bridge pup, don't get the latest H 2008- bass, get the HS, The new H model only allows for parallel, series, and series plus filter. If you want to be able to use a single coil at the neck, plus two other cool tones and the normal H tone, get the HS. Thirdly, with the HH, you cannot use any single coils; it is all combinations. Yes, they sound great, but the difference in the HS and HH comes down to whether you want the option to use single coils, (and, for example, get the Jazz-ish Jaco tone at the bridge). In my eyes, unless you really don't mind not having extra tones, get the HS or HH. Not only do they retain their value a little better due to the rarity, but they offer the normal Stingray tone PLUS 4 others. That with a three band EQ = a lot of options.
24.
Hey guys, I'm currently using a Genz Benz STL 9.0, and have been for a couple of years. Thing is, I'm frankly a bit bored with the sound, and was never reeeally that impressed with it to begin with. My old GK RB1001, at 700W, sounded better and louder than my Genz Benz at 900W. The only reason I switched was because of the weight. So, I'm wondering whether to change. I've heard nothing but good things about the TC RH450, and it sounds great. But at 450W, it's half the power of the Genz Benz. Now, some say that it can still match it in volume, but I wonder how this is possible? Can anyone confirm this? Unfortunately there is no realistic way of me trying it to find out myself. I just find the Genz Benz... lacks something... I don't know what. I've never been able to get that great funk rock slap tone that I could from my GK.... Thanks for any advice given!
The RH might be too warm and middy compared to the Gallien tone you like. The RH750 does have more high end on tap though. Great amps and very very loud (if you like an Ampeg pushed through an 8x10 you will like the RH amps). However, I think you might really like the Gallien MB800!
25. I think if Jaco were still around, he'd play a modern high end bass, perhaps a Fodera. Last night I discovered you can get a Musicman Bongo HH to sound very Jazz-bass like, and almost dead on P bass like with technique and using a little EQ. All that, plus its own Musicman/Stingray tone, with far higher quality electronics and build. Plus, a neck sent from heaven haha.
