  1. Learning to play I predict a riot by the Kaiser Chiefs! i was pretty new to playing when I started and thought it was impossible. much determined practice later I can nail it every time. Every time I play it with my band now I get a warm glow of satisfaction inside 😀
  2. Dance floor is always good! only a small pub though. Nowhere to stash the tables.
  3. If the question were “is chart music getting worse?” whole different ball game. There is a lot of great music around, more than ever with modern technology opening up music to everyone, you just have to look for it. Twenty One Pilots are my current favourite, superb band and have a huge following.
  4. just sorting the video footage from our gig last night, 10/08/19 at the Rose and Crown in Ramsbottom. thought i’d share a song with y’all. I play bass in Room 22 doing rock and indie covers around Manchester and enjoy it thoroughly!!!
  5. I spent a whole gigging my Harley Benton Pb50 through a Behringer BDI21. less than £100 all in! that bass was great! Heavy but solid and sounded sweet. i currently play a Squire p bass with a Dimarzio Pup and another with a Creamery. both cost less than £200 each and they play and sound wonderful. i Love upgrading cheap gear. The rest of my band have stupidly expensive guitars and drums and I love rocking up with my squires and sounding just as good 😀
  6. We should offer a Basschat therapy service. Help lost souls to find their hearts path. Sometimes i’ve Sold guitars or basses i’ve loved as i’ve needed the money. I always regret selling them but sometimes a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do. i have a list of ones I need to buy again one day to rekindle the lost love. I wish i’d Found a way to keep all of them but money never allows usually.
  7. Why do you need a jazz bass? what does it give you that the carvin does not?
  8. Brand new bridge pickup in fender box with screws and sponge. i bought a pj set and used the p. jazz pickup is unused and unfitted. as fitted to American fender basses. £35 posted in UK or pickup in or around Stalybridge, east Manchester.
  9. Just got my first Creamery, the solo 14. Very impressed. Everything it says on the tin. Highly recommend them.
  10. I seem to have ukulele GAS. on my third one now! They take up less space than basses.
  11. I don’t think i’ve ever even owned a single piece of British made gear! I live in a world of Far Eastern cheapness.
  12. The onboard ship is a gumtree classic scam. I’ve sold a lot on gumtree and got similar messages regularly. as already said, he’ll use PayPal rules to stuff you royally.
  13. Keenly watching this thread as i’ve Always fancied a Mark Hoppus p bass.
  14. I run through an amp into a desk. tried with and without compressors and like both! i can never decide which way to go. currently running without.
  15. Out of student loans and treehouse homes we all would take the latter 21 pilots Stressed Out Everytime I listen to that song it makes me happy. Looking back to simpler times. Is it ladder or latter??????? Perfect both ways, Clever stuff.
  16. And you get a tasty post gig snack as well!
  17. The guitarists in my band both run Helixes into the PA. Great bit of kit. I love them and recommend them thoroughly. Cant help thinking it’s over kill for bass though. ive tried their helixes with my bass and good sounds are there in droves but it’s a lot of money and with a ton of effects you’ll probably never use on bass. If you do use a variety of tones and effects for songs then you’re covered. They take some fiddling with to get them set up perfectly but then gigging with them is a breeze. There are plenty of Di preamps that will fit in your gig bag and cost much less and you won’t have to worry about unnecessary complexity. the Two notes le Bass And darkglass offerings are top notch. I ran a darkglass for a good while. I actually run my bass through a Hughes and kettner tubemeister 5 guitar amp di’d into the desk, it has a great built in attenuator so no need for a speaker. unconventional but it sounds amazing. i always have the Behringer bdi preamp in my car just in case, it’s pretty good. dont like the tone as much as my little amp but it was £17, cant go wrong.
  18. My main bass is my affinity p bass. modded the pups but I love it. light and easy to play.
  19. I went in my local music shop and a used Peavey Millenium AC BXP in purple called out to me. Love at first sight. I took it home there and then. 10 days later GAS had firmly taken hold and I upgraded to a Schecter Stilletto elite. I have had terrible GAS very since 😀
  20. I’ve had lot of cheap basses in the time I’ve been playing. my current go to gigging bass is a Squier affinity. I’ve had a few, some better than others. Stick to the Indonesian ones with open tuners like the one I pictured, any I had with closed tuners were bad. the pickups on affinity’s are ok for beginning but not great. I put a Dimarzio in mine and it is the best sounding bass I own. Also really light which my back appreciates after a couple of sets. i had a Yamaha RBX374 for a while, great bass for the money and I have and would happily gig it. Solid, great value bass. Ibanez basses are a great shout, I have a Talman and it’s a corker for the money, really well built and looks great, can pick them up new under £150, RichTone music has some good deals recently. the pickups are not bad but dont compare well to the Dimarzio in my squier so I’m going to upgrade the pups before I gig it again but they are ok. its heavy with a chunky neck. i also have an Ibanez SRX which I recommend thoroughly if you find one. Good sound and look sweet. the best bang for buck I ever owned was my Harley Benton PB50. i had the older one with a Wilkinson pickup which I stopped out for aseymour Duncan quarter pounder but the Wilkinson was better so I swiped back! the current ones have Roswell pickups which review well. Ridiculously good bass for £100 new which sounds great, plays great and will hold its value, should sell used for £80. Chunky and heavy but solid and nice to play. Big thing is your shortlist is bang on, you won’t go wrong with any of the ones you’re considering.
  21. Bill Gould is hands down my favourite bass player and biggest influence. i remember him in an interview saying you should play bass like you are fighting with it! i love the slap, funk, metal, rock and everything else mixed together. My favourite ever gig was FNM at the Sheffield Arena in 91 or 92. Wierdest ever gig I went to was a Mr Bungle gig 😀
  22. This thread just makes me think of grumpy old men moaning about not understanding the youth of today 😀
  23. Enema of the State by Blink 182 is my one album that never goes away.
  24. I got a guitar out of a bin once. Gear4music job. spent £13 on parts sorting it out and sold it for £30! Like winning the lottery.
