1. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
2. It’s apparent that some of you guys on here have experience as sound engineers. I have a question - what do you guys want to hear from me at a soundcheck - I have heard players doing things like “Donna Lee or a blisteringly fast version of Rhythm Stick but is that really useful to you? What can the player do to make your job easier (apart from buying you a pint!) Cheers!
3. Well, button rash specifically - got a new gig that requires me to wear a waistcoat as part of a uniform. Given my track record of buying and selling instruments, I would like to avoid the buttons on the waistcoat scratching the rear of the bass body in order to preserve the value of the bass in a potential future selling situation. Any ideas how to go about this? I have thought about maybe some sort of sticky back felt material attached to the back of the bass as a last resort but thought I would ask if anyone here has found a way of avoiding the dreaded rash Thanks in advance 👍
4.
This. You don't lose coupling on most stands. I use one of these. Adjustable, portable and affordable.
If its a head and cab you use, how do you stop the head from moving when the cab is tilted back?
5. Truck driver here. Only available for gigging on Saturdays. Weekday evenings (even Fridays) not an option as I never know what time I am likely to finish. Sunday evenings are a no go due to 0500 start mon - fri and no idea where I will be sent until I clock in. I've lost count of the times i've been stuck in traffic when i should be at rehearsals. Pays the mortgage and funds the daughters Students Union bar bill but not great for a gigging musician......
6. I managed to unravel it with my fingernails until it was small enough to fit through. Had a play for an hour or so and its fine. Job done!
7. I want to fit these EB Cobalt flats on my bass, but on the B string, the silk windings are preventing the string from being pulled through the bridge. If I shave the windings down with a razor blade, are there likely to be any negative effects? Thanks in advance Old vs new ⬇︎
8. Went to see "From The Jam" on Saturday night. Forgot my earplugs - my ears are still ringing now....
9. I play unlined and am pretty much ok in the lower register, but I sometimes struggle higher up, especially in a loud band. Can I opt for unlined up to the octave....
10. Have you checked out https://transferwise.com ? I bought my Maruscszyk using it and found it dead easy and cheap
11. Thanks guys, some food for thought there, I'm pretty sure its a keeper so I'll check out Andyjr1515 and also look through the luthiers thread on here....(which is what I should have done in the first place doh!!)
12.
my guess is he bashed the old ferul out with a flat blade screwdriver and dug in to the wood from behind can't really see how else you could f*** it up like that hope he did not charge you for the job only real fix is a strip and refin or bodge and live with it I would refin as it would annoy me to much
He mentioned it was really tight and he used a drift. I think he was quite aware that there was no way I was parting with any cash.
I don't suppose you like matching headstocks do you?
Could live with that I suppose, any recommendations.... Oh hang on!!
13.
You paid the Luthier to carry out the work to a pro standard, he screwed up, he should bring it back to as new. Looks like he did not use Titebond glue, as that dries clear. How he brings it back to as new is not your/our concern.......he's the pro?
Having one experience of his work is enough for me!
14. I should have done it myself but due to time constraints from family and work commitments I trusted my recently acquired Maruszcsyk to a locally "reccomended" luthier to fit a set of ultralite tuners. (Didn't realise the body would be so light otherwise I would have specified the Hipshots from the outset). Anyway, when he removed the end ferrule it pulled out a chip of the wood, which he immediately glued back in place but see the picture below for the result To be fair, the guy was distraught but now whenever I look at the bass, all I see is that damage! It is purely cosmetic, still plays beautifully but I would like to ask if anyone here has any suggestions as to what options there might be to repair or at least disguise the damage..... Thanks in advance....
