1. i just had a good look at a close up of the picture, i can't see the Gibson logio clearly so am a little unsure. It may well be a copy.
2. Mint condition, barely used. Fits normal basses and my Ltd Phoenix (Thunderbird lookalike). Collection only SK14 near Manchester.
3. i just got an ltd phoenix with a reverse headstock. awkward to tune and needs extra long strings, but my god it looks cool!
4. thanks for the reply, i kinda thought that but when i looked on rotosounds website they state that if the string is too long and the unsilked bit is wrapped round the tuner then it invalidates their warranty! never heard that before so had me worried.
5. I just bought an ESP LTD Phoenix bass, like a Thunderbird with a reverse headstock. Normally, the G string is the longest and the E is the shortest but this is the other way round. Problem is it means that normal string sets don't fit. The bass is 34" scale. Distance from ball end to tuner on E strings is about 42.5". G string is about 37.5". Long scale strings only just reach the E tuner with nothing left to wrap around. Am I best with extra long scale strings even though on the G string the silk starts way beyond the tuner?
6. 100 w will annoy the hell out of your neighbours! wow! i have loved all the Blackstar stuff i've played, and you'll never go wrong with a Roland Cube.
7. i had a guitar that i put the dirty torque and blues engine in. really well made pickups. they sound amazingly close to the seymour duncan jb and jazz. they are not exact but i'd say 95% there. not even worse, just a smidge different. Almost as good and half the price of the Duncans. Certainly going to be a huge improvement on the stock Epiphones. i've tried a few other irongears, always mightily impressed but that pair is certainly the best they make. Hard to justify spending more.
8.
I'd love to come, depend on public transport so would need a lift (especially if I'm going to bring my favourite toys ) So ribbet can I bag your spare seat please? Do you have space for two bass guitars?
pm'd re spare seat.
9. i'm in, close enough to me. i'd have a spare seat if anyone wanted to car share, from Hyde near Manchester. car is only small so would struggle with any more.
10. all down to what you want in life. If you want to enjoy your time, stay. If you enjoy getting better quickly, move on. I started a band with a few older but inexperienced people, we've all come a long way and enjoyed the journey. As long as you enjoy the rehersals and they practice and improve you'd be mad to leave IMHO. There has been times i've thought people were not good enough, but any time any issues were mentioned, they've always practiced to rectify it. Finding good people to spend time with is a lot more important than finding someone who can play. It's definitely easier to get decent folk to learn to play better than it is to get talented idiots to become better people.
11. I wasn't expecting to like that, but genuinely did! He has a great voice true enough.
12. I had one for a few months. Wonderful build quality and really loud. Tiny and portable. I never got a tone out of it I was happy with though. Closest I got was putting a distortion pedal in front of it that had an octave built in. The octave really beefed up the tone. Without it the sound was always too tinny for me.
13. cash generator in town are on e of the few that prices their instruments keenly, you never know what is in.
14. I took lessons for 6 months, great foundation for me as my tutor made sure i didn't start with any bad habits. (i've got plenty since). I used youtube lessons for a couple of years, there is a lot of wonderful stuff on there and all free. Specific song lessons and a lot of how to look after your instrument. I definitely negelcted the boring theory whilst doing the youtube stuff, which i shouldn't have. After that I joined a band which is where my learning really took off. Playing with others the theory really helps to communicate ideas with each other so I have had to go back to basics a bit there. I've learned guitar to a basic level and this really helps to recognise what the guitarists are doing so i can play along.
15. I use http://www.karaoke-version.co.uk/ Not sure if it is exactly what you are after. They are decent covers, when you buy a track you can download it as much as you want and can keep or leave out any of the instruments each time.
16. It's the case in most things, the law of diminishing returns. For every step up in quality the price gets exponentially higher. I had an £1800 Warwick earlier this year, I currently play a £76 Harley Benton. The Warwick is head and shoulders a better instrument, better built, better feel, better tone, better in every way. 25 times better? Definitely not. But worth the extra if you can afford it. Thing is, my Harley Benton does the job admirably, I enjoy playing it, it sounds good enough, I don't have to worry about it getting damaged and I bet no punter listening would notice the tonal difference in a pub.
17. I'm selling my ergodyne as I have one too many basses. It's a great instrument, a superb player. Super thin neck, and the body is made from lithuite which means Ibanez could make some interesting shapes a lot more cost effectively than wood. As a result it has a wonderful concave back that is a pleasure when resting against your tummy! The cutaway under the strings makes it a superb bass for slap and pop. Quite a light bass and very resonant. I bought it off a guy who owned it from new around 2004 and barely played it so it is an absolute minter. Only mark is a tiny one on the back of a horn. Made in Korea and great quality. Great neck, set up nicely, plays really well. Sound wise it has active pickups, 2 band eq and a bass boost system. Good range of tones and a very nice sound. Finished in a superb matt grey that shows it's curves off beautifully. Just had new Dunlop strings last month so ready to rock. Could trade, what have you got? Can post to mainland UK only for £20 extra. Would want to meet in person if trading.
18. UPS through interparcel always been great for me. Be sure to avoid Parcelforce as their insurance doesn't cover musical instruments.
19. Basically if someone messages me and doesn't refer to my bass or amp or something specific, avoid. Also, if f they ask you to use any different moby or email to the initial one, avoid too.
20. I sell a lot of stuff on gumtree. This is a scam, avoid. I get a lot if messages like How much is the last price of your goods", always dodgy. They work of scripts and never refer to your item by name. It's always "I am interested in your musical instrument" Or "interested in your music item". They pay by PayPal then use several methods to claim their money back once they have the item.
