1.
be prepared for a huge jump in output! Those things are loud!
By Jingo you were right! Great service from pickups plus eBay store, ordered Tuesday night, arrived Thursday afternoon. Just in time to pop them in and head to band practice. They push my amp into overdrive far more than even my active Warwick does! As someone mentioned previously, not quite the classic p bass tone but a nice growl tone. Seemed a little muddy till I adjusted the height then they sang. All my basslines were a good chunk higher gain tonight. Scratchplate needed a bit of filing but no probs with the depth of the routing in my Squier, plenty of room.
2. I'm glad this topic isn't about what I first thought when I read the title! Three fingers confuse the hell out of me. Playing most songs in 4/4 having to start the count on a different finger each bar is far too hard for me. One, two or four make the count so much easier.
3. Just bought a pbxn to pop in a Squier Affinity I've got knocking around. The stock pups are flat, characterless and have no punch. Will put my two pence worth in when they are fitted. If I like it then it'll be the tuners next, they're crap too!
4. Open to trades for a nice 4 string. Could do trades with cash, especially for the following: Fender Mark Hoppus, Fender P bass if i like the look, some Schecter basses, Ibanez Iceman bass, ideally in white. happy to meet half way if a distance away.
5. i started a few years ago at 38 years young. got lessons for a few months to get started. Online lessons are awesome, but you need someone in the flesh every now and then to tell you what bad habits you are picking up. defo +1 on joining a band, i did it last year and my learning sky rocketed. i put an ad on joinmyband looking for other older newbies to get together with. We've got a rookie bassist, singer, guitarist and drummer so noone feels too foolish.

More pics on my review: http://basschat.co.u...k-vampyre-sn-5/ This is an amazing bass, I've loved owning it but have realised I much prefer 4 strings so am moving it on with a heavy heart to buy a 4 string. Flamed maple body, ovangkol neck, wenge fretboard, bell brass frets, Warwick tuners, MEC double and single active jazz pickups, MEC 2 band active pre-amp. Concave back for great comfort when playing. Stained and waxed body. Comes with tin of Warwick wax which I have applied regularly. Restrung a month ago with Rotosounds. Looks great. Pointy, gothic, but in a really nice way. Sound wise, great tones for any style. Classic Warwick growl. A few light scratches as pictured, and mild buckle rash. Pickup in Ashton under Lyne near Manchester but could deliver to a reasonable distance for fuel cost. I don't want to post it. Keen to go shopping for a 4 string so £675.
7. TC electronic bg250 208. 12.5kg is the main reason this is my keeper. After a 40 kg Ampeg this is heaven. Plenty loud, great tone, line out for PA, tone print for built in compressor, extension cab output. Everything I need in an amp and lightweight.
8. I love the hundred year old mahogany!
9. I like playing with a pick way more than any other style. I like the attack and definition it gives. Is refreshing to hear so many positive comments about pick playing, normally it is just decried as heresy at any opportunity! My first ever gig got reviewed (as a helpful thing) and the reviewers main comment about the bass player (me) was that "he used a pick, and when he had played longer he would realise fingers are far better".
10. https://youtu.be/RCTUho1JYSg Anderton's are doing a weekly bass video on their YouTube channel if anyone is interested. Nathan King from level 42 is presenting.
11. They seem to do a good line in used Harley Benton's more expensive than Thomann sell them new.
12. Cool is a very kind way to put it. Horrible would be my call!
13. The other thing I'd add is lessons are regular so it pressures you into making sure you do your practice. With no tutor to tell you off it can be easy to do less practice. Conversely, if you are busy online can be a lot more flexible.
14. I do a lot of online learning, it's great. Lots of very good stuff on YouTube. it always pays to have someone watch you play once in a while to point out any bad habits you pick up. Also, helps to loosely follow a structured plan, either from a book or with someone like Scott define or finbar bass. Otherwise your learning will be scattered and slow.
15. I've found a few people on Gumtree. Musicians wanted in the community section. Plenty of time wasters on there too though.
16. My first bass was a Schecter Stiletto Elite 5. I sold it last year to fund a Warwick. Kinda regret selling it. Was a real Looker. Sounded amazing too. Lot of bang for the buck with Schecter.
17. Anybody know of a singer interested in a classic rock and indie covers band? We rehearse in Denton, Manchester on Thursday's and are looking to do some gigs when we are ready. Currently play ZZ top, Rainbow, U2, Oasis, Ash, mixed bag really. We're open to new influences. Not worried about experience, as long as generally reliable. Bryan, 07538949276.
18. Don't worry if you are ready. My playing improved drastically after I started playing with other people. You'll quickly get up to speed.
19. Good luck with it. I've met quite a few people through joinmyband this last year. All been decent folk and I've enjoyed it muchly. Our singer turned out to be far too unreliable but everyone else has been cool.
20. I just got my PB 50 today. Only bad points: It needed a set up, slight tweak to the truss rod and lowering the action. The tone knob is slightly bent, but only slightly. Had to unscrew the thumbrest to remove to protective coating from the pick guard. Otherwise, awesome! Perfect finish, great Wilkinson pickup with plenty of character. The bridge is better than the MIM fender I used to own. More chunky. Tuners can't be faulted. Plays great. The d'addario strings are fantastic. I love the bright sound, accentuates the attack when I play with a pick. Perfect for the rock covers I play in my band. I'm looking forward to a beautiful relationship. Crazy how good a guitar can be for £76!
21. I joined bass players united last week, left after 3 days. Nothing but self aggrandising no lifes showing off in my opinion. Couldn't be done with it!
