  1. I recall watching a luthier design new and exciting body shapes once. They had all the tools for doing the artwork and everything. What was interesting is that rather than starting from a blank canvass, it was more a case of slicing off or adjusting angles of templates they already had... and I wonder what the templates were? Hmm! With that in mind, you can lay the outline of many basses directly on top of said basses and much of the important angles tend to line up. I.e, the leg scoop, the chest cutaway and the length of the upper horn. Small details like a shallow lower horn can mean a bass won’t stay perched on the leg, or if the upper horn is too short, the bass will neck dive when strapped on.
  2. I was thinking of posting something much the same! The P or J outline, it can not be argued was bang on to begin with. Leg scoop, chest cutaway, upper horn for strap button anchoring etc, etc..
  3. The centre section is indeed a ramp! I worked with Jon to design it. It adjusts the same way as a pickup does - and it quickly became a standard feature Jon offered on his basses. (Rather than being a fixed lump of wood attached to the face of the body, it can be lowered right in to the body out of the way) interestingly it is also the same size as an EMG MM5 pickup... you know, just in case I needed a big ole MM pickup one day! 😂 Thank you! The finish is actually a silver and black crackle finish over which one of my favourite flip paint finishes is applied. So the crackle finish changes from Purple to Green as you move it in the light. Sometimes even looks blue too!
  4. Sorry I took so long to get here. Headless and curvey!
  5. Funnily I was just wondering what an SVT 2 Pro on top of a Barefaced Big Twin 2 might be like!
  6. My interest in the SVT 2 Pro have been resparked.. not by playing through the real thing, but spending a lot of time with the SVT 4 Pro model on the Line 6 Helix. Running the model in to cabinet sims of the speakers I used to use with my SVT 2 immediately reminded me of not only the tone but the feel of my old rig. I mean, I spent over 15 years with the same set up, live and in the studio.. and it was weird to be reminded of the good and bad about it, yet not have a physical amp in the room? Gahhhhh ha ha! Of course there’s certain things that a pair of big ole studio monitors or my favourite cans on my ears can’t reproduce... that magic spot on the SVT dial up on stage. I do miss that, even if each of my cabinets weighed 45Kg on top of the weight of lugging that SVT up on top every gig!!!! Maybe I’ll just have one for my “home play time rig” ha ha!
  7. I do rate the SL and the SLS. Some brilliant and forward thinking features! I would have loved to have seen the power amp sections also splittable with a stereo effects loop as well. This would have opened up the Studio/Live range to even more musicians, for example those running dual/parallel type rigs or even messing about in stereo alone which is great fun. I liked the tone of these too.
  8. Wish I’d never sold mine.
  9. I shed a little tear every time this post gets bumped and my wallet has nothing but moths in.
  10. I’ll chime in later... but I really want a US SVT II Pro! I miss my old one lol!! #NothingButMothsInMyWalletNow
  11. I think I'm going to make up a Youtube playlist out of these all when I get a moment - but for now, I have submitted all of the songs up until this am as part of a column in BGM. I'm sorry I cant name everyone who has offered such great examples as I was already nearly 80 words over my word count and had to trim a bit off my column text to fit it all in! THANK YOU! There's some new songs in there that I hadn't heard before and that's what makes BC great.
  12. Oh BassChat you are full of loveliness, but how do I whittle it down to just a few examples!!!! I wonder if I can mention them all??
  13. Yup, that is true. I know that you have certainly been instrumental in getting me on board too! I'm pleased that the planets aligned eventually as I always wanted to be in some way part of BGM! Now I'm in BGM AND Bass Player Mag - I bought pretty much every copy for years including the very first edition. Unfortunately, I cut it up to make posters out of it. Kicking myself now, so, if anyone has a copy of that too I would be delighted to source one!
  14. Arrived safely and well packaged for shipping! Thank you so very much! Expect pictures on social media soon!! CHEERS!
  15. Maaaaaaaaaan I want to list all of these!!
  16. I really appreciate that! Thank you! I will endeavour to keep the standards high!
  17. Yes! Yes! You will be very pleased to hear that I will absolutely be continuing to be the bass department in Guitar Interactive Magazine! The videos and features will continue! I’ve shot over 350 videos for the magazine now, most do find their way on to YouTube, but the best place to read the entire reviews as usual is via the GuitarInteractiveMagazine.com website where the current and nearly all of the back issues are available to read (and watch) online.. and is absolutely free to do so! There should be a link in my signature to go straight there. I will also be making myself available soon to shoot independent video for product releases, reviews and demonstrations, so when that is all set up (soon) expect to see more of the same! If anyone knows of companies looking for this type of presentation, then do forward on my interest or share my contact details! Thank you
  18. Thank you very much indeed! Yup, Even when I was a kid I’d day-dream about being an artist in my favourite magazine. (My Dad used to subscribe me to Guitarist Magazine when I was a teen). I’d never guess that I’d actually be writing for the magazine! So yes, it does mean a huge amount to me. I just hope I do a good job!!!, Thank you for the suggestion and actually you are spot on, Joel my editor has been fantastic. It was he who sent over the BPM edition as it happens. It was just on this occasion, as I asked long after the Jan issue was out (released in December) that I was unable to grab a fresh copy off the press at the time. That’s really no problem at all. I didn’t want to hassle for a copy, the team are incredibly busy, all the time BC has come to my rescue which is just wonderful! Thank you again, I love doing video reviews and I am pleased to say that I continue to be the bass section of Guitar Interactive Magazine too. Those videos will continue!!!, Please keep sharing the links and review videos!
  19. Awww you just know I'm also going to turn this in to a playlist.. beautiful sounds!! Keep them coming!!
  20. Cosmo Valdemar, The Maartian. The Maartian, Cosmo Valdemar..
  21. Ahhh ha ha ha! Ok, got ya! Bass Guitar Magazine is the UK version, Bass Player Magazine will of course thus be the US print.
  22. As the title asks, post your favourite recorded examples of these effects. Youtube videos are always welcome * *I'll mention the most popular examples in BGM!
  23. I have no idea what you mean. Which magazine is which?
  24. Does anyone have a copy of this one they no longer need? It's for my scrap book! Writing for BGM is a bit of a dream come true for me, so I'd like to have a copy of my first "edition" as it were. I am mega excited to have received the Bass Player equivalent this morning, which just blows my mind if I am honest - but the BGM is a biggy for me. PM me or reply here
