I often think back to the gear I had then. It was SO cool, but yes, it weighed a ton! - The good news is that I'm getting a pretty good replica of the sound recorded with the kit I'm using now, but, it's not the same as having that huge rig on stage with me! That was lovely and my chiropractor was kept in business for a long while! I found some old pictures of the 'rig of doom' the other day. Ahhhh happy days!

Recently I have been haunted by Ampeg G.A.S. I can’t carry one, afford one or will probably need one, but I want an SVT II Pro again. I think it’s because the SVT4Pro model on the Helix sounds so good. Oh, and at the last minute I decided not to snatch a bid on my old SVP-BSP that I spotted on eBay. It would have been an easy win, but I stopped myself last minute.

Absolutely! My first tuning device was a set of pitch pipes!! Many years later my first electronic tuner had a big switch to select the string you wanted to tune and a needle bobbed all over the place wasting my time whilst attempting to bring the bass in to tune. Yeah I can kinda understand the producers thing certainly for tuners of yesteryear. The "cheap stuff" available at the time for us poor musicians varied in accuracy between brands. Unless everyone used the same tuner then yes, tuning discrepancies were obvious even to my relatively young ear in music. I recall trying to talk a guitarist out of using their tuner because it was either shockingly inaccurate or broken! Hopefully those issues should be less of a problem today, or rather, it's less likely to be the fault of the tuner itself.

I couldn't find a feedback thread for David, so I have taken the liberty of creating one! It's "all thumbs up" from me! David has recently bought a pedal from me and it was a super smooth transaction.

In all seriousness, I teach all of my students to tune accurately by ear especially for such times that the tuner fails to switch on. - Just a case of also teaching a student how to get the drummer/guitarist/WhoeverIsFaffingAroundMakingTooMuchNoise to be quiet long enough to get the bass in tune too!

Ahhh nice set up! I owned the Accugroove TRI210L for a few years - that was a great little cabinet - a little dark sounding in certain situations though. I do like those Genzler cabinets though. They sound really good - as you say, wherever you stand.

The GSS is dual mono, which put me off as I’d wanna play with all the lovely stereo effects in my Helix. The Carvin looks like a great unit, but I wonder if it will “do” 4 ohms even? That leaves the HB and it’s huge power supply box lol! For the money though, that’s a a fun practice rig!

I have a Reidmar 750 as a backup amp that I bought for a crazy price here on BC. It’s a great amp with lots of balls. The TD650 is in my “top fave amps” list, though I admit it’s been years since I’ve played through one. My memory I think was still good though as I recently reviewed and A/B’d the 30th Anniversary HD360 (which is essentially a 350) and the new Reidmar 502. They are both very good indeed. The 502 is a loud little dude too!

P.S, I also loved the Hartke 4.5XL cabinet that had a 5" mid driver on board instead of a dedicated tweeter. Yes, the cabinet had a very particular tone to it, but the clarity was definitely different to that of the tweeter less 410XL version. The former I much preferred especially up at volume on stage.

I agree with what you say and I do recall thinking that the sound did seem to be clear when sitting off at an angle as seen in this video. Whether or not that was entirely to do with the line array alone OR that we were also using a 10" driver loaded cabinet too, well, I couldn't compare against a standard cabinet at the time, but I do rate this cabinet design. Interestingly, EA's NL112 has vertically arranged HF drivers and also happened to be a great sounding cabinet too.
