I'm used to playing my ER Basses with all sorts of effects and goodies and they sound ace. This afternoon however I have been playing my (new) old Precision bass with nothing but me and amp. It sounds insanely good. I even tried out some of the effects that I am used to using live... nope, P bass just sounds amazing without. Really good. It reminds me of a sound I had in my head when I was younger (my first REAL P bass when I was 18). Happiness.

Ah, simplicity is a wonderful thing! Like you, lately I've had a hankering for a 4-string Stingray, which was all I played for years back in the 80's. Unfortunately I've been playing 5's for nearly three decades now, and all the 4's I've picked up over that period (for mainly nostalgic reasons - although I've never had another a Stingray 4, oddly enough) I've moved on again fairly quickly because I missed the low B, or 'the thumb rest' as I call it, too much. It's all in my head, I'm sure of it...

I'll be running through my gig sets hopefully next week if I have a chance. The worst case I thinks that I'll need to punch in an Octave pedal when I want those low notes. I could even try out a -5 semitones on a pedal to get the "low B string" (100% wet effect) - which won't sound the same but for the odd part of a song it might work.. but that P bass though... yum!

Ok, so who pipped me to the post on eBay for the ToneHammer pedal? I was about to snaffle a bargain!
-
I highly recommend @D'Addario UK's Merch line. I recently bought another D'Addario Polo Shirt and I am reminded that not only are the clothes great quality, but they are always a perfect fit too. They don't just do strings!

Fingers crossed UPS haven't lost something very special....

Spill the beans @Dood, what have the incompetent fools lost?
Actually quite bizarre, if you are a doctor, sales rep, footballer you are required to have above average skills in your chosen “career”. Not so with couriers, it appears you need to have zero sense of direction, be nigh on blind, have no sense of responsibility nor any understanding of customer service

A vintage bass has mysteriously been ‘lost’. It went missing between being collected (not scanned) and being brought in to the depot (again not scanned) - draw your own conclusions but it has taken way longer than it should to ascertain it’s whereabouts. The levels of incompetence displayed up to this moment in time are astounding. Indeed I even received a phone call asking if the parcel had arrived, even though said operative had spoken to both the source hub and the delivering centre and neither “had seen it”.
There are literally a mere handful of delivery drivers around here I trust. They are brilliant and I see them often. Those are definitely excluded from the torrential outburst I feel bubbling up inside when I think of courier services.

On the financial side of things, I understand that the all members (John and the Freddie Mercury estate included) still very much profit from the touring and shows of the active members. I think folk think that Brian and Roger are just out for themselves now. It's a great thing to know that it's still Queen as a business entity that looks after all of it's members.

What's happened to BC? I can't seem to post anything at all! I type a long post and it just refreshes back to the start of the thread without entering any text. Anyone else having trouble?

The site is a bit laggy in places. I've noticed it takes several seconds to load all of the components on a full web page. Are you on a full screen or a mobile Dan?
There seems to be a back-up cache on the BC side of things that holds the user's draft text in case of a client disconnect. In areas of the forum that require a log in it can be problematic trying to retrieve it but it is usually saved there until the text is officially posted by the user. I can't be arsed to troubleshoot or report it. I'd guess that your submissions were stuck in that cache for some reason.
Nice as the upgrade was, I think mobile users got more from it than users on full sized displays.

Gotcha!
Funnily enough the Magellan adds a bump to the lower mids too as well as cutting the extreme high and low frequencies to make a thick, smooth mid rich valve like drive that works brilliantly in the mix, better than any other drive that I've tried (of which there are many!). It's perfect for Motown and dad rock stuff although I often leave it on for the whole set, everything from Andy Williams to the Foo Fighters
Never had a chance to gig the Tone Hammer, unfortunately.

Thank you everyone
Yes, I feel like I am 100 years old. I sometimes wonder if in my universe time is moving faster. It only feels like yesterday I had ten posts; I'm old and grey, 100 seemed to arrive in no time at all and typing 80,000 posts a year happened in a blink of an eye. ha ha!
Yes I will sign anything.. probably how I ended up in this mess in the first place lol...

Visitors to BC over the years may well have seem me bang on about what I suppose is still a favourite 'tonally coloured' speaker cabinet, the Hartke 4.5XL. I've had about 6 of those 45Kg beasts over the years. Too heavy for my poor back now. Imagine my excitement when I find I can have 600 different IR's of this famous cabinet to play with on Helix and my DAW???!!!!! Could I have 'Dan's 90's Tone' back again??? Watch this space! (My back says thank you)

@SpondonBassed - You beat me to my reply - yours is a bit more concise and yes spot on. What's funny is that in terms of being coloured (in) the Hartke 4.5XL has aluminium cones and thus are shiny silver. The crayons are nice... but you know... shiny!!! (oh man. I'm a Magpie)
