1. I picked up a pair of these: AKG K99's: http://www.amazon.co.uk/AKG-K99-Semi-Open-Circumaural-Headphones/dp/B001GF7WRW Based on a recommendation on here. Lovely headphones - very comfortable & light, with a clear & balanced sound. 3m cable too I believe.
2. Barefaced allow you to try the cabs for one month & send them back if you're not happy with them - have you tried that? Beginning of August may push it just over a month though, but worth a shot. I love mine!
3.
Although I have offered help, please chip in as well in case anything untoward crops up.
Indeed - thanks gelfin Bump!
4.
Does your email client allow you to view the header? this usually shows, for a spoof email, a source other than what it's supposed to be. If you've any doubt, shooting them an email may not be the thing to do! Congrats if its legit!
Yup, you'll need to view the header info - it'll tell you the originating sender, etc. Try contacting him through LinkedIn? https://uk.linkedin.com/in/grantfox1
5.
To quote from an email I received last week. "It's funny how we spend lots of money on amps and guitars and then completely overlook the bit that connects them all together!"
Heh, beat me to it
6. Regardless of if it's your issue, get yourself some of OBBM's cables! http://bassic-bits.co.uk/ I used to have cheap Stagg speakon cables, bought some from OBBM & did an A/B test - the difference was noticeable. No point in having a great cab, quality head & then connecting them with the cheapest thing you can find
7. Anyone in/around Cardiff available on Saturday 26th September to provide a PA/do sound for my band? We're the only band, playing 7.30 - 9.30pm (I believe). Or does anyone know someone who might be able to help? We're looking around the £50 - £70 mark for budget, but let us know what you'd charge if that's not enough. We have: 2 x Vox Guitar 2 x Keyboards Bass Drums More details available on request! Cheers
8. Two sides to the story, I guess: 'This is because it is important we establish the principle that a licence is required when services make available music to users.' This is true, I can understand that. However (unless I understand wrongly), everyone chooses to upload their music to SoundCloud, knowing that it's a free service with no return. If SoundCloud were taking music & streaming it without permission/license, I can understand PRS but as musicians choose to upload their music that's surely agreeing to SoundCloud's terms? Surely PRS aren't the only copyright holders for the music - the musicians themselves should be allowed to make this choice?
9. Already got mine! Third time seeingn him, can't wait
10.
As I see from your Photobucket pics this is Chinese Classic Vibe pb...
That photo is the headstock of another bass (a Modern Player Jazz), just in the same bucket.
11. We were offered a gig with a couple of options - a fee (not much), or free beer. Me & the Keyboard player are the only drinkers, so we offered a reduced fee & beer for us two. But no, I wouldn't take payment in just beer, as our drummer doesn't drink & the guitarist can only handle 2 pints (and usually drives). Plus it would have to be local, so a taxi is < £10. As for New Years Eve gigs, I'm as above - I wouldn't go out for less than £200+, and I'd still be picky on whether I'd play depending on the venue. The last thing I want is to be playing all night whilst people who can't handle their drink gets wasted on shots of sambuca, throws up in the bogs & tries to shout for Mustang Sally all night. Then again, I don't do this for a living or need the money.
12.
Yup - know him?
I played a gig in London a couple of months ago alongside the Jeanette Murphy band... I was adamant I recognised the drummer from somewhere, but I couldn't figure out where. I chatted to him, but apart from driving his van around Basingstoke he'd never gigged here. Just clocked as to where I recognise him from now - drumming at the South East bass bash!
13. Oh, and on the insurance front - is there anyone else you can add to your policy? Parents? Other half? I only learnt to drive last year (I'm 27), and my insurance wasn't *too* bad because I got a multicar policy with my girlfriend & had her as a named driver on my car. Worth a shot.
14. Yup, the promoter will be unlikely providing the backline - maybe they'll organise a soundguy to do PA, but it's up to the bands to provide & share equipment. If someone is willing to lend you their gear, take the offer. But don't be ungrateful - find out who it is at the start of the night, double check they're happy with you using it (do this in advance if possible!) & thank them. That's much better than just walking on stage, plugging & playing, then buggering off. I had a gig not long ago where once we'd finished soundchecking, the next bass player asked me if he could borrow my amp as he didn't have one. I was a little annoyed, but I couldn't say no - my gear was there, set up. But to then ask me if he could borrow a cable too, as he didn't bring one of them... C'mon, at least make an effort or ask in advance. I almost offered to play the gig for him, too. I don't expect every bass player from every band we play with to have fantastic gear, transport, or whatever else - but I expect them to make an effort in making sure the gear situation is covered. Turning up unprepared is poor form. It sounds like you've done the right thing in trying to find out what's going on & making sure there's gear there. Just be honest with the other guys, offer to help if there's any way you can and always thank whoever leant you their gear. If it's the headline band & you've got a train to catch, just say - I'd rather someone say to me that they have a bus to catch, than disappear.
15. Bump for: 1) An absolutely cracking bass - I'm a previous owner, only sold it to fund another Lakland after being so impressed! 2) A top seller - deal with confidence
16. At home, a Cafe Walter headphone practice box. Fantastic bit of kit. For practice amp, I have a 30 watt EBS session combo. That only handles small practices - at home, or with a very light drummer. If I need more than that, my gig rig of Orange Terror + Super Compact is easy enough to shift about.
17. When that happens, I just turn up 15 minutes late to practices to give whoever it is time to set up & get it out of the way. By the time I've finished plugging in, they're usually about ready so don't miss any practice time. Fortunately I've managed to drift away from most of those bands...
18. Yeah, how much for each pedal & where are you based? Cheers
19.
fancy a trade with a lake placid blue Lakland skyline dj4 (2008)?
Afraid not - already had one of those & it wasn't for me! Had a couple of messages, all replied to. As you guys all say, it's a cracking looking bass!
20.
You can turn that bass into Sex On A Stick just by changing the pickguard:
This is true... However it wouldn't show up in the photos though!
21. Ok, I'm still not 100% certain on this so it may be withdrawn before I finish writing this... Up for grabs is my Lakland Skyline Duck Dunn precision bass. It's from 2006 I believe - made in Korea. After wanting one of these for years, I finally got my hands on one a year ago. It was everything I wanted it to be - it instantly became my go-to bass over my US Precision. The neck is slim & easy to play, the action is low, the flatwounds are worn in & it sounds fantastic. However, I acquired a Squier JV P-Bass not long ago, and that has since become my go-to bass. As a result, this is sitting there unplayed, which is a crime. Because I like it so much I'm tempted to keep it sat there, but I'd like to free up the funds to put into another project. Condition wise, I'd say 9/10 - it's got the usual light swirling on the back, but the rest is fine. There are a couple of small dings in the neck - I've tried to photograph them as best as possible, please see the photo album for details. Nothing major, or that gets in the way of playing. I'm after £600 including shipping within the UK. I'm based in Basingstoke if you'd like to try it out, or collect. I may be able to meet within a reasonable distance, schedule allowing. It comes with the original Lakland soft case, but I have a very sturdy, well protected cardboard box for shipping. I wouldn't want to ship abroad though, because it doesn't have a hard case. Any questions please let me know! No trades thank you. Photos: http://s30.photobucket.com/user/smaz87/slideshow/Duck%20Dunn Cheers
22. Howdy folks, Selling my Boss PH-3 Phaser pedal in pretty much as new condition. I bought it for use on a small tour at the beginning of the year, but haven't used it since & have no need for it. Great effects pedal with some great effects, I've kept it to try and find a user for it but alas can't! Comes with original box (which does have a hole in the top), see photo & I think I still have the manual for it - I'll check, but if not I'm sure it's available online. These are about £95 new, so how's £50 delivered in the UK? Any questions just ask! 23. It's the last time they read the message thread, regardless of replies I thought. So if you send a message at 10am, someone reads it at 11am & 1pm, the read time will be 1pm - regardless if they reply or not. So if you then send a message at 2pm, it would still say 1pm as last read
