1. I'm going to be really cheeky & throw in a bump We're on the push to raise enough money to be able to record an album by January next year. It's a tall ask, but I think we can do it. So if anyone is interested in Blues/Rock & fancies helping us out, give it a listen, grab a copy if you like it It's available pretty much everywhere, but here's the top places: iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/some-kind-of-voodoo-single/id940150293 Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/music/artist/Sugarman_Sam_and_the_Voodoo_Men?id=Auyegybrle6swaqts5gtwokslsy Spotify: https://play.spotify.com/artist/3Jud1WmElq2q5EoYZxsmfV?play=true&utm_source=open.spotify.com&utm_medium=open Cheers
2. Always loved this one!
3.
The sad reality is that until listeners begin to once again place a value on music, the payment for it will continue to fall.
This. I've been a spotify premium members for a few years now. How much of that money has made it to artists, I don't know. But, because I listened to Jamiroquai on there, it said I might like Brother Strut. I gave them a listen, and from then have bought 6 tickets to 3 different gigs (+ convinced someone else to get tickets to a show), and bought their album from them when I last saw them (so they got the money). Without spotify, I'd probably not have discovered them. So looking at spotify individually, they've made nothing from me - but because of it, they've gained more.
4. Our gig schedule is a bit busy this month, in case we're nearby to any of you lot! Sun 12th: Basingstoke Live - Main Stage, 2.30pm Thurs 16th: Railway Inn, Winchester - supporting Ben Poole Fri 17th: The Riverdene, Basingstoke Sat 18th: Nashfest, Tadley (sold out) Fri 24th: Heather Music Festival, Leicestershire - Headline @ Queens stage Sat 25th: Chineham Arms, Basingstoke Fri 31st: Alton - Lounge Bar, I think! More about us & our blues rock outfit: http://facebook.com/ssvdm http://ssvdm.jimdo.com If you'd like any info just ask
5. Gigging in Wales that day & think I'll be travelling from about midday, so think I'll have to miss it this year Grr!
6. You're probably best off selling through iTunes / Bandcamp etc. (check out https://www.emubands.com/ if you want to get it on iTunes/Spotify/Google Play etc.), as the hassle of trying to create & host something yourself won't be worth it. For building a site, try squarespace.com or using wordpress.com. You will have to pay a monthly fee if you want anything half decent, but you'd have to pay hosting if you did something yourself / with a template anyway.
7. Of course, I forgot about using the DI as a backup if the amp blew up, and I like to have safety nets! I absolutely love the sound of the Terror, so I'll check out a Behringer BDI21 - many thanks!
8. I'm toying with getting a DI pedal & a compressor. I've just bought a pedaltrain nano +, and have some spare space so it's not a hassle to have more. I currently have: TC Spark Booster - mainly used for a bit more 'oomph', a kick up the backside during certain parts of songs. I'm toying with using this as my main drive pedal too, as I like a bit of that but not too much EBS Billy Sheehan Drive - I used this before I bought the the Spark Booster, the SB was meant to replace this but I may keep both. It was again for the kick up the backside during certain songs. The band I'm in only has one guitarist, so where I felt things needed packing out I thought a bit of drive & clean boost was needed. TC Polytune. I'm considering: A DI pedal: We're currently playing a lot of gigs where there's 3 - 4 bands playing, gigs in London where we have to get the train, or gigs where I have to use the house rig. I'm considering a DI for the London gigs, to make life much easier, or for when there's 3 - 4 bands playing so I haven't got to lug around so much gear for just 30 - 45 minute sets. I'm not *too* precious about my sound - whilst I love my rig, if I can avoid driving & have a beer, I'm happy! However I have an orange terror head, which has a DI out. I could just use that for when I need one? A compressor: I play a few different basses, so considering something that will keep everything balanced. I also don't like how thing/weak D & G strings sound sometimes, so having them boosted by the compressor (possibly) would help. My band are getting bigger & better gigs, so if a compressor would be beneficial in keeping our sound tight & consistent, I'll get one. I only play P-Basses, all strung with flatwounds: JV Squier Lakland Duck Dunn Fender US-P Fender A/E fretless Music wise, we're Blues/Rock - you can get a glimpse on Spotify: https://play.spotify.com/artist/3Jud1WmElq2q5EoYZxsmfV?play=true We're on itunes & everywhere else too. This is more ramblings than questions I guess - just wondering if people have any ideas/recommendations or in a similar situation?
9. Most things that Stealth on here sells end up going through my hands... Doesn't help that I live 5 minutes walk from him! I've got a couple of basses that used to belong to Clarky - 50% of my collection, so I guess that's a lot!
10. Yup, when the girlfriend & I moved in together I checked about instruments. Because I gig, they wouldn't touch them. I got a policy with New Moon - never had to claim (and hope not to!), but everything has been good so far, into my second year. As a rough guide, I insure about £3,500 worth of gear with them for about £50. That's with an excess of £100 per item, and also includes unattended vehicle cover.
11. I'm in basingstoke, not far away. I do know someone in winchester. What you after?
12. Through to the final! We did In My Chair, as it's very similar to an original song we do so was relatively easy! Only ever had brief conversations with Mark, but seems pleasant enough. I don't book the gigs or anything though so can't say on that front!
13.
That's what I used to do. But in the end I learned it's really madness.
Well, only one spare of each! My problem is I take a cable out of my gig bag of pedals/amp head/cables, and put it in my guitar case to take to practice. I then take a different case to a gig, and voila - I'm a cable short. With the one spare rule, I save myself from forgetfulness! I have broken a string at a gig before - fortunately the last song in the set & I lived literally next door to the pub I was playing at, so I just went & grabbed another bass for the next set.
14. I don't have backup instruments in that way (though I do have 4 Precisions) - I would see two basses, even if they're the same make / model / colour / year as two different instruments. I do however have extra guitar cables, speakon leads, power cables etc. - don't have backup strings at the mo (need to sort that out!). That way I've also got stuff other band members may need too...
15. We're back again, this time for their battle of the bands! Talking Heads, Southampton: http://talkingheads....1b5aa28d2ca753a Anyone interested, tickets are £3 (I think). Music from 8pm! We're a blues/rock band, you can find out more here: https://www.facebook.com/ssvdm https://www.youtube....h?v=OY3JbLPaA1k If you're interested, let me know!
16. Alternatively, any Manchester BC'ers got a spare room for the night?
17. Dmanlamius (of http://learnbass.net / Free Bass Lessons) is going to be bringing his lessons to an end, as there's now so many options out there in comparison to when he started. However, he'll be going out in style - by posted a new bass lick / lesson every day for a year, starting from next month. They're 365 creations by him, not licks from songs. More info here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaJC7hXsP6o I shall be following along!
18. I'm about to use the house (or headline bands) combo, as it's all set up & easiest, helps changeover time. I have a feeling it won't be a scratch on my rig (which I have with me, and will crack out if needed), but lets see....
19. A gig I recently played, we were being not so much heckled but interrupted, some guy had had too much to drink & was being a bit of a tit. Someone shouted to start playing, so we couldn't hear him anymore. The heckler then tried to grab the mic during the next song - an audience member promptly grabbed it off him, put it back & said to his face, in no uncertain terms, 'F*** OFF.'.

21. Ear plugs if you've got 'em - sitting there listening to it blaring out the studio monitors for a long time takes its toll... ! A spare bass, if you have one, or at least a toolkit - the input on mine started playing up when I went to a studio, managed to get away with it but could have done with a backup.
22. Like that, shall definitely be checking out more!
23. I have a Gen3 Compact (8ohm) & a Retro 210 (12ohm). Absolute killer combination. I've considered selling the compact & getting a second 210, but I've also considered selling the 210 & getting a second compact. I think I'll stick with what I've got - more flexibility for when I need a single cab. One thing I did notice though, with the difference in ohms: My orange TH500 drives both cabs equally well when using both together. However I tried a Mesa Walkabout Scout & found that it didn't drive the 210 as well as the compact, so when used together the 210 was a little weak.
24. Just sold my Mesa Walkabout to John - could have spent the whole afternoon chatting about bass & related gear! Spot on, no hassles - definitely recommended
25. Playing at the 'Festival of Chances' at T-Chances in Tottenham, this Saturday!
