1.
Might be able to make it, will know closer at the time
Cheers Sean, I think the BC roll-call is WaynePD, Bluejay and possibly Thunderbrird 13 (aka Alasdair) :-) Would be great to see all of you there!
2. <p style="margin-left: 40px">The strings are Silver Slaps - my only other set is Kolstein Heritage steels which are utterly different in character. Would swapping the A over tell me much, as their vibration characteristics are likely to be very different?</p>
3. So far I've checked the headstock (tuners solid, nut good), shunted the bridge 1mm sideways and back and tweaked the bridge feet, checked the Full Circle p/u wires and jack barrel, checked the bridge after-length (which is damped anyway with a piece of rubber tubing) and shifted the endpin into a different position and tightened very hard ... and you guessed it, yes, the rattle is still there
4.
So - let's get this right: You left the band, and he replaced you with Will Lee? That's quite a compliment.
That is one interpretation ... unfortunately not the correct one! No flippin' way I could play that bass line for starters
5. It's like Percy has just got progressively less nice sounding fretless basses each time he moves on. Reminds me of a thread to that effect I posted a few months back when I put forward my view that his nicest, woodiest tone was actually with his fretless Precision back in ealy Brand X days, followed by his Wal in later Brand X days http://basschat.co.uk/topic/163053-percy-jones-fretless-tone/page__p__1525888__hl__percy%20jones__fromsearch__1#entry1525888
6. The singer from my previous band, Rattlin Bone, Wily Bo Walker has just released a new single. Its rather different from our Tom Waits-voodoo vibe output as Rattlin Bone. Bo has managed to blag some uber-musicians to play on it, including Will Lee on bass! This being BassChat I thought some of you would be interested in hearing Will Lee going through his paces - very tight, funky playing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0uOa40p0Os
7. PM'ing you Chris
8. [sup]Thanks Sarah, I didn't get the chance to take a look at the bass last night (small matter of football) but will be doing so tonight[/sup]
9. I am a late 40-something as a starting point, from before the interweb (although not before cassettes) and I think there is a generational thing here with a sense of entitlement having become the norm. I simply don't understand why making music should be treated differently to other professions in terms of protection. Sure if you choose to make your music freely available then fine, thats your choice (and as pointed out above there are some logical, marketing-type reasons for doing so). But to have it done against your will is a different kettle of fish. There should be a choice on the part of the artist in my view. And the argument that 'the horse has already bolted' does not make it right
10.
I'm not a Ritter fan either particularly, but that's fabulous.
I normally post pictures of the world's ugliest dog upon mention of Ritter but that has rather taken me aback. Wonderful bass, Barrie!
11. I could arrange special extended payment terms ...
12. Sorry Chris but i am calling my relationship quits with Ricks. Break to my left hand a couple of years ago (which means I cramp up with narrow necks) has done for me - its Precisions and double basses for me (mainly ...)!
13. Thank you gents, didn't think of altering the endpin ... and I have slightly shifted the bridge (as to my eyes it was off-centre) prior to it going to Malcolm Healey so between these I may have a solution. Fingers crossed! And thanks again
14. I got my old German flatback from being repaired by Malcolm Healey a week or two back and have been playing it like mad since then. Just one thing annoys me a bit (not a lot, as Paul Daniels would say) and thats a buzz from somewhere in the body when I hit the open 'A'. The harder I hit the string the louder the buzz. Doesn't happen on any other note (open or fingered) and I've checked the soundpost (solid as a rock) and the various seams (all glued). Its difficult to pinpoint where its coming from, just somewhere vaguely in the body. Is this a problem others have encountered and what did you do about it, if anything? Cheers Clarky PS, I could of course take it back to Malcolm but its a c2 hour round trip each time I deliver and collect
15.
Oh yes and is this pub showing the football by chance ?
TBH I don't kno (I've never played there before so don't know the setup). However its Germany v Greece so not the most exciting!
16.
I'll be out of the country
Extreme way to avoid one of my gigs Jack. You could have said you have a cold
17.
sounds like a Ric btw
It does indeed, thanks! Same body wood (maple) and thru-neck construction plus Rick electronics = total doppelganger in sound stakes. And its a lot cheaper than a real one
18.
I may try to come along too, late work permitting, if I can find a reasonable way of getting back to W4 by tube after the gig. I've pencilled it in.
Cool thanks! We will be debuting a new uptempo Mexican style song .... which is nice
19.
One of the nicest basses ever to make an appearance on these pages IMO
+ lots. Gorgeous
20. Bump. Great value considering the original parts (eg, the bridge pickup assembly alone costs £245 to buy http://www.ricsrus.com/Pickups.html)
21. Nearly 25% off new price and its in pristine nick
22. Thanks and here's a little clip to show one in action (not me playing - I don't own such a classy shirt) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1PbnbbIpEw
23. I bought a fretless U-bass a few months ago on a whim but it just sits in its cute little padded case un-played as I have been concentrating on double bass and more recently my 5-string bass. Someone else should have fun with this. Its in very good condition (no point taking a pic as its looks just like a stock one) and the advantage of buying it second hand rather than new is the rubbery strings have stretched somewhat and so don't go (quite as) quickly out of tune! They go for £339 including post at BassDirect http://www.bassdirec...lists/Kala.html so how about £260 handed over (I am in London) or £270 posted?
24. On hold for Tom
