1. Replicating the Off Topic thread, I decided to change strings on my old German flatback yesterday. The E, A and G were all nicely sited and as I tightened the D there was an almight bang as my adjustable bridge flew into pieces and the soundpost dropped on to the inner floor of the bass. Now I have to drive to Malcolm Healey's in SW London to get it fixed and the only days I can do that are Olympic traffic-warning days in SW London. So either I sit in an almighty traffic jam or wait a month or so until I am back from hols and the Olympics hassle is over. Grrrrr
2. Going to be a hellish day traffic-wise in London but for those able to make it, it would make a refuge from Olympic fever!
3. Very frustrating! I had a search for either one of these or a PJB Briefcase last week. Would have preferred the Minimark but ended up with a Briefcase as noone stepped forward with a Minimark. Always the way!
4. Calling chris2112!
5. Withdrawing due to lack of interest! Probably the kick up the jacksie I need to keep trying at 5 strings
6. Played my Kolstein yesterday. What was I thinking? Would be madness to sell this. Withdrawing I will make do with my Takamine B10 for rehearsals/gigs where I can't get a 'proper' DB along
7. Hmm, I rather doubt they would fit as the headstock on a Thumb is not long and the scale length is 34". Sorry. Although its probably irrelevant, I can't tell that they are coated at all. They feel like typical hard stainess steel strings to me (I prefer nickel and don't generally like s/s)
8. If a s/h one doesn't come up, Thomann's price for a Shadow SH950 is £30-50 cheaper than UK retailers http://www.thomann.de/gb/shadow_sh950_pickup.htm
9. Nice Nick. I really like the faded blue/green colour of your reacquired P bass, very 60s/Beach Boys
10. Bump, £30 for a £43 set of strings (barely used) and what appears to be a backup, older set of the same type of strings. So £30 for what originally cost £86? Sounds fair do's to me!
11. Thanks Bigjohn! My Western shirt was a £19.99 eBay special
12. Thanks RR! It was very hard to get this right as with hidden mics etc and a djembe drum, the sounds were very difficult to balance
13. Here you go. Bass unfortunately way low in the mix but was recorded live so can't do anything about it. Recorded in a vintage clothes shop where one of our singers works. Double bass purists, please excuse my added side markers on the neck!
14. Great job Wayne
15.
Nice resonator. As I was in a 'reso' kinda mood, I thought I'd show you mine:
that's lovely, what make is it can I ask?
16. There is an items wanted thread for one of these - should sort you and the other guy (Thor I think)
17. I just bought a Mesa Walkabout head from Si. Excellent transaction, good comms and - as post above said - top marks for packaging! Nice one!!!!
18. And another clip, this time of Miroslav Vitous (Jaco's predecessor for those that don't know him in the earliest version of Weather Report). Its arco for three minutes (pretty unlistenable if you ask me), with pizz from that point on. But it does give a representation of the sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMRkAoGp3H4
19. If you jump to 6:47 of this video you can see me playing the bass. This extraordinary video was us helping out a Uni student with her final degree piece http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QBLUHlDFK0
20. Many thanks for the links Keith. I can't believe how lucid my OP appears given I had been out for a heavy (birthday) evening
21. I got this a year or so ago from Mr_Bassman (Keith). Its aesthetically wonderful, absolutely fantastic to play in the house (superb, rich acoustic sound) and very transportable compared with a full-sized DB. Selling (see post below, dated 2 September) as I want to buy the removable necked version of this lovely instrument for added flexibility on travelling. This bass was previously owned by Dave Swift, Jool's bass player. It has been played by other BC'ers if you want an unbiased third party opinion (eg, Greg, aka gcordez) Comes with padded gigbag and also a hard glass-fibre (I think) hard case. Fitted with Kolstein Heritage steel strings and a choice of Planet Wing or Bassmax pickup. I traded it for an Eminence with Mr_Bassman as part of a complex deal at an assumed value of £3,000 and I am after the same value given the rarity of this bass this side of the pond. Here is my bass being played by Dave Swift, who owned it before Mr_Bassman Her's the stock page from the Kolstein shop in NYC: http://www.kolstein....egory_Code=bass Here it is in a vid shoot: http://www.facebook....&type=3
22. I have a broadneck (20mm spacing) 5 string Warwick Thumb 5 BO that I am selling (£1000 ono) as I just don't "get" 5 strings. I am well sorted for basses and amps but could do with a portable quality EUB for busy London gigs/rehearsals where schlepping the doghouse along is impractical. My good BC friend Mr_Bassman rates the SLB200 as does the super player Chris Minh Doky, so I wondered if anyone fancies a p/x (with cash adjustment). Failing that a similar quality 4-string EUB (not a NS/Steinberger though as they look a bit pogo stick to me and my band likes the whole DB visual vibe), eg, Eminence, Kania da Gamba or possibly Clifton. Here's the FS thread with more detail/pics etc http://basschat.co.u...-neck-fs-l1000/
23. ... or trade against a Yamaha SLB200 EUB?
