Our line-up is drums, guitar, mandolin, DB and two vocals. Think I will just stick with a piezo pickup for simplicity's sake!

    Best gig yet with All The Queens Ravens. Played the Hoxton Bar & Kitchen. Great sound on stage, appreciative audience and we just clicked really really well. This is why I do this, still buzzing We were support act to a new Country-esque act called Phillious Williams. My word are they good, they will be signed to a record label very soon I predict

    These came on my old German flatback that I bought from BC'er Emlyn several months back. I took them off immediately as they are too high tension for me (I prefer Kolstein Heritage and SIlver Slaps very low tension strings). They are a bit ragged on the silks (not very) but completely useable. I am fairly sure they are Helicore Hybrids as that is what I recall Emlyn telling me (they have green silks at the ball end with golden thread if that helps identify them). New these are £104 a set at String Express, so how about £35 posted to reflect the somewhat used state?     Oops, sorry Al I have scoured the house and cannot find it - or for that matter my Ray Brown double bass tutorial book. Guess I must have lent them to some one and forgotten who ... I do have a couple of other DB books I will bring along on Wednesday, one a very basic beginner's DB book and the other a bit more involved (walking DB bass lines). You are welcome to have those for as long as you like!

    Been reading about mic'ing a double bass (eg with DPA 4099B, which seems to be the most popular) and - whiIe I understand that this risks picking the sound from other instruments on stage (and monitors) - I don't understand why various sources talk about trying to avoid feedback. WIth a piezo I can understand that if the bass starts vibrating (eg from a boomy stage or monitor nearby) it gets picked up by the pickup and a feedback cycle can ensue. But an isolated mic (the 4099B is just attached by rubber feet to the strings below the bridge) surely only picks up sound, not vibrations, so why does it feed back?
