1. [sup]Bump. Not looking for trades at this point, I'm afraid.[/sup] [sup]Here's the Rob Allen specs page: http://www.roballenguitars.com/info_mb2.html[/sup] [sup]and a vid of a jazz group playing one: [/sup] [sup]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glURZKk5A44[/sup]
2. It was re-titled Affiliates and hot deals. It's at the bottom of the sub- forums in the Marketplace section
3. I bought this a month ago from German BCer Markus (BC name Bender ). Its a quite wonderful sounding bass in excellent condition but I have come to the conclusion that I simply don't enjoy playing its lined, narrow Jazz-type neck as much as the big old, chunky unlined neck on my Takamine B10 fretless. Tone wise, it has a piezo and volume control only and sounds warm and organic, close (but not identical) to a DB. BC'er chris_b has played it and thoroughly enjoyed it - and would probably be the proud owner if he wasn't so set on 5 strings. Looking to get back what I paid, which is £1500. These are rare beasts and this is a good price for one in such good condition. I am in London if you wanted to meet up /collect. There's a ton of pics on Markus' FS thread here http://basschat.co.u...b%20allen%20mb2
4.
Get Victor Wooten's Book the Music Lesson, its not technical at all, a pretty easy read and the most frustrating thing is that the 'characters' can kind of be bell-ends. But the stuff in there is pretty good.
Well I'll try anything. Just ordered it. Cheers Mr F
5. Interesting read. I am 48 and have now been playing in bands solidly for 7 years, starting in a death/thrash band, then a punk band, then a voodoo blues band (when I switched to double bass) and now my folk/country/flamenco outfit (still playing double bass). Throughout all of this I have struggled badly with any thing theoretical. I play patterns and learn bass lines by position on the board. I really have very little understanding of what I am playing. Thankfully I am quite good at learning lines and patterns and reasonably dexterous. However, I would dearly love to actualy understand what it is that I am doing on a bass. Reading BassChat does give me some major feelings of inadequacy as other BC'ers reel off theory, whether basic or complex, and I just don't get it. And I have yet to find a book that makes it any simpler.
6. Yay! Nice one
7. Hey Wayne, those low tension strings you tried on my DB were Innovation Silver Slaps in case this helps you narrow down your search (Golden Slaps are the same, just a different colour). They are £75 a set new http://www.stringexpress.co.uk/dbass.htm but do come up from time to time second-hand on BC
8. I had the Presto Lights - nice strings, not dissimilar to Silver Slaps (which I prefer), just slightly high tension. Very rootsy and slappable but with a metal core so they can be used with a mag pickup (unlike SIlver Slaps) I am guessing the Ultra Lights would be near-identical in tension (and maybe even lower tension) than Silver Slaps but I couldn't speak for the tone.
9. If I hadn't just bought a MarkBass combo I would be mightily tempted by this as - in retrospect - my old Walkabout was the nicest, valviest sound I have had with a bass
10. Cheers AM! Depending on the precise date of recording I may be sorted here due to my good BC friend and all-round musician silddx
11. Would help to let people know where you are based. If you are in US, then UK-based buyers need to add just over 20% for import duties on top of price of bass plus shipping. If you are in EU, then of course there is no import duty
12. Thats gorgeous!
13. Hi all, the band is planning to spend a day in the studio recording a song that has a very Spanish feel and would benefit from a proper quality Spanish/flamenco guitar (as opposed to the guitarist's normal steel-strung acoustic) Would any London-based BC'er be willing in principle to lend such an instrument for a couple of days? I would do my level best to make sure it is well treated and would sling a nice bottle of hooch in by way of thanks Recording date is not fixed yet as we are waiting on availability of a couple of members but it may well be around 20 July, or early August .... if those don't work out it would be after holidays season in mid/late September. So for now just seeing if anyone would in principle be prepared to help out here :-)
14. Rewind: the promoters had the wrong date on their website The gig at Hoxton Bar & Kitchen is on Sunday 29th July (not Saturday)
15.
Hopefully ill make the 29th July one (this time).
Oops, its Saturday 28 July 7:30 pm (not Sunday! 16.
Clarky this is up your street ,suit your Takamine.....................
I reckon it would be up my street. Trouble is I have an Acoustic Image combo for my DB, a MarkBass combo and an Acme 2x10 cab .... so it would require a total re-vamp of my rig which I am just too knackered with gear trading to do!
17. Rather than start a new FS thread why not answer these good folks questions, seanee? Cracking amp for double bass, by the way. Best of luck with sale
18. Next up for us is a folk/Americana night at Nambucca in Holloway Road, Islington. 19. Another deal with John, this time he bought a GK combo off me. As ever, excellent, straightforward deal
20.
Thursday 7.30pm at Hammersmith works a treat for me. May the sun shine on you.
OK, there's a McDonalds next to the exit from the Piccadilly Line. C u outside that at 7.30pm tomorrow but I won't be eating there
21. Actually I could do about 7.30pm at Hammersmith on Thursday (tomorrow) as flying off Friday at crack of dawn. Let me know which day works best
22. Although I am indeed heading off to Italy in next couple of days, If you can get to Hammersmith tube station tonight (about 8pm) I could meet you there and lend you back your old combo, Jamie? You would have to hang on to it until some time around middle of next week
23. Gerald bought my MarkBass F1. He paid mega-fast and was top class with communications. Recommended
