4. Nope, I am not a 5-string player. Back up FS or FT
5. I think I should get over to Twyford to see if there's anything we can do here Phil (I could also potentially do a p/x for a 500W amp)!
6. An if-only-it-had-one-string-less bump from me too!
7. Bump, pointing out added trade/px options ^^^^
8. Prefer cash but possible p/x against a 4-string super-Jazz (Sadowsky/Celinder) or a 62RI Jazz in 3TS or a pre-3-bolt 70s Jazz (3TS again) or (are you listening, Keith? ) a 1971 P/J fretless! Rosewood necks only
9. Update: Nambucca gig next Wednesday is 8.30pm onstage with a 30 minute set Update 2: Rutland festival cancelled due to H&S considerations (weather damage)
10. Its still on hold for tom (due to hand over in August) - sorry
11. I recently picked up a Warwick Thumb 5. It had a set of Warwick steel strings on which I could not definively ascertain and I had good things read about Warwick EMP coated strings so I bought a set of those for a cool £42.95 at Stringsdirect http://www.stringsdi..._strings_45_135. They appear identical to the strings that were on the Warwick beforehand (albeit they are new)! Well, to cut to the chase, I've decided I prefer EB Slinky nickelwound strings to the Warwicks and am thus selling my two sets of Warwick strings - one defo EMP and on the bass for a matter of a few days only (a couple of hours home noodling use only), the other probably EMP but worn in. How does £30 posted for both sets sound?
12.
Why? The AI into the Acme with a good preamp will give you one very good rig for both leccy and DB. Maybe a different pre for leccy and DB would be all you'd need.
OK, think I will give this a try as I do have an sfx Micro Red Dragon DI pedal. The only slight hassle is swapping the AI head out of my AI Ten2 combo each time I move from one to t'other (before anyone asks, the Ten2 cab is not as loud as the Acme despite being a 2x10 and is better suited to DB than EB)
13.
You've already got the best class d amp in your clarus head. try a pre amp of your choice into the effects return
Fair point Keith, I may go this route for economic reasons (although I would like a separate rig for my electric and double basses).
14. Congrats!!!!! and lots of other smiley emoticons! Have fun!
15.
What a beautiful song.
Yep, +1. I thought the trio sounded fantastic on the radio show the other night
16. I wish I could get on with Ric ergonomics, Chris, as this is seriously drop-dead gorgeous looking
17. "Not too keen on Tuesdays" either bump!
18. Here's a bit of what you get if you come to see us (we will also have our mandolin player for forthcoming gigs) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuaFpXdnJyU&feature=player_embedded
19. One of my earliest gigs with All The Queens Ravens, before I switched to double bass. Also missing our lovely mandolin player Camilla http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuaFpXdnJyU&feature=player_embedded
20. I am not warwickhunt, although people have often said it of me
21. Thanks Jack but, er, wouldn't that mean I have to buy an amp and a power amp ? I'm not after recreating Grateful Dead's wall of sound, just driving a great sounding but low-efficiency cab with a gigbag-friendly head
22. There's a very clever scientific explanation that I am sure someone will furnish us with but basically its an ultra-lightweight, compact power amp circuit ... effectively it means you can pack a decent powered amp head into a small lightweight package. Markbass probably first main exponents and now everyone does it
23. Thanks for your comments so far. I would have included the Mesa Walkabout on my list, although its not as light as the ones mentioned nor >500W (although its damn loud!) but the new price is astronomical and I missed buying Scooby's second-hand one that was for sale last week for about 5 nanosecoonds!
24. Hmmm, no disrespect to Hartke devotees but I had an LH500 and thought it was a bit cheapo quality-wise
25. Sorry, another "help me choose an amp" type thread .... The brief: I have been looking for a lightweight class D head that can do clean through to valve-esque warmth (doesn't need to be really gritty) and packs more than 500W into 4 ohms (my Acme 2x10" cab is fantastic sounding but not very efficient and needs lots of "juice"). Don't want to spend a small fortune, by which I mean more than say £700 (which probably rules out a Tecamp Puma unless there are any available second hand on BC). The choices that I have come across seem to be the new Gallien-Kruger MB800 (the cheapest at £549), the Genz Streamliner 9 or Shuttle 9.2 (each close to £700), or the MarkBass LM800 Tube (about £700). Am I missing any in this list and is there any reason why I shouldn't just go for the cheapest option - the MB800, as recommended by none other than BC's very own Dood? Ta muchly, Clarky
