1. Erm, me again. We are not money laundering. Chris bought back a bass I bought from him (again). We are both basically pathetic with attention deficit disorder or OCD or something PS, Chris was a gent as ever
2. This isn't confirmed so its more of a 'save the date' for my West/SW London BC chums. Looks like we might be playing the middle slot (9.30-10pm) next Wednesday, 19th September at the Half Moon in Putney. Short notice as its a cancellation - only uncertainty is one of our band members is currently incommunicado; assuming she says yes (we are gigging next night in Hackney, so she should be around) then we will be playing the gig So Happy Jack, silddx, Low End Bee, Bluejay, MacDaddy and assorted other nice 'that London' based BCers, now's your chance to catch us live without heading off to our usual Hoxton, Camden and East London stamping grounds
3. Little reminder-ette for those of an East Larndan persuasion
4. As a first step, slip a tiny shim (a thin bit of plastic or leather perhaps) in the E nut slot and see if that changes anything. I had this issue with the A string on my DB and a small nut slot shim (try saying that after you've had a few) cured it. Failing that, does the issue disappear if you raise the action? IIRC the Eminence has bridge adjusters. Might imply a need for re-shooting?
5. Sorry to hear this Chris as I know how much you put effort/time into making this bass look, play and sound exactly how you wanted it to
6. So duz anywun want to by my Fender Skwire?
7. Fantastic news Jon! Time we revived that Metallica jam idea with your bro and guitar mate
8. To help your sale along, here is a soundclip from the German distributor http://soundcloud.com/landomusic/tracks Sounds pretty good to my ears!
9. Depends on your budget but I bought a lefty short scale Precision off this lot in the US. WIth tax/import cost me just over £100 http://www.rondomusic.com/bassguitars4.html
10. I've looked around and not found any copies on DVD or on Youtube. Unfortunately VHS does seem to be the only (legally available) option
11.
Silver Slaps are way lower tension than spiro weichs. To be honest though you could get away with a mittel on the E for slapping in terms of tension but it's going to sound very different to your other strings. Maybe try a Super Silver? Higher tension but a similar sound, might work better as an E.
Ok thanks. Shame as a lot of the lines in my band are fast pizzicato lines (eg where we go "all flamenco") and I can't keep those up on higher tension strings. Even my Kolsteins (on my other bass) are at the limit of the tension I would like. Lord alone knows how Danny Thompson plays fast lines with Mittels then, bar having fingers and wrists like Popeye's!
12. The differences are quite striking in some cases, eg Velvets sounded darker than I expected. The Olivs sound nice but I really like the projection and sustain of the Spirocores
13. I have been listening to DB sound samples (see my other thread posted this afternoon http://basschat.co.uk/topic/186342-page-with-helpful-sound-samples-of-various-db-strings/page__fromsearch__1) as - although I love the low tension of Silver Slaps on my old flatback - it doesn't have much sustain or growl on the E, just a dull thump. I love the sound of Spirocore Mittels on sound clips (and especially when played by Danny Thompson, although I realise a lot is in the hands of the player in his case) but do the weich's have similar sound characteristics or do the thinner strings give a different character? Also are the weich's similar in tension to Silver Slaps? Thanks!

15. Chris traded basses with me. Kept me well informed all the way and was a pleasure to deal with. Happy to add to the list of those recommending him to do business with
16.
Nah, I'll just wait til you've had it long enough and then put it up for sale in the Double Bass section. But then again, you might withdraw it a few days later....
Mine won't be going up for sale (honest!) I actually picked mine up from a different website (was a bit pricier) but its signed by Danny on the cover
17. I bought this recently as I love Danny Thompson's playing with John Martyn and David Sylvian. It was recorded in 1991 (and it shows in the picture quality) but its really quite inspiring. Its a bit slow off the mark (reminiscences about washtub basses etc) but once he gets into playing 'Victoria' its wonderful stuff. In particular I had always wondered about his superb tone and sustain and I discovered that he raised the nut (making it very gruelling for his left hand) in order to deliver the sort of volume and sustain he gets with open strings. I reckon his left and right hands must be like Popeye's! No wonder my wimpy hands cannot deliver anything like his type of tone. Anyways for £8 its a snip, as long as you have a VHS player http://www.laceysjam.com/catalog/item/1812715/1375408.htm
18.
Is this Ehrlund GAS, Clarky? It might be an idea to hang on to your Full Circle for a while, no?
In one! I've dropped Daf a PM. Keith (Mr_Bassman) also suggested I hang on to the F/C to be on the safe side. Good advice from both of you. Nevertheless I will still try to track down some replacement wheels, just in case!
19. Thank you for that! I have dropped the retailer an email to enquire about the sizing
20. Bingo! Many thanks chaps. Gave the send/return sockets a good seeing to, as Gareth alluded to , and its ....Clouseau voice .... sol-ved ze prob-lem Yay for BassChat!
21. On hold, potential deal in the works
22.
US Precision, maple neck, perfect colour scheme for me. Clarky, what are you doing to me, this is as close to The One as I could ever wish to see. Dunno if I can raise the cash though - somebody buy my stuff, please.
John, I've sent you a proposal (not marriage) by PM
23.
Bizarre! I'm not sure if it could be relevant, but there's a common-ish problem with Walkabouts which results in the signal dropping out - the FX loop jacks oxidise over. Shoving jacks in and out of the send and return a few times to clear them solves it. Maybe give it a shot?
Thanks wot, will give it a try later today
24. Two more pics (as earlier pic a bit dark to show the true colour):
25. Mrs C recently bought me this gorgeous US Fender Precision for my birthday in a rare colour which is akin to a pale seafoam green (its actually a faded pale duck-egg blue colour - lighter than sonic blue - and I've not seen another like it). I already have a Precision (my 63P which is 'the one') and would prefer a Jazz as my second bass. Hence I have tracked down a Jazz in a faded sonic blue which I should be able to sneak past her so she won't notice the switch ... So I am selling this for £650. Fantastic condition bar one ding on rear near the ferrules which is not through the paint Collection in London or post for £15 (can only post Mondays or Fridays). Comes with Fender hard case More pics on request
