Hi all, I liked a Warwick Thumb I acquired recently so much I foolishly sold it to buy a 5-string version, thinking I would finally have a go at mastering 5 string (and prompted by flamenco bass players - my latest fad - tending to play 5/6 string Warwicks). Cutting to the chase, I picked up this broadneck (a custom option) 2001 Thumb 5 BO in generally excellent condition from a Belgian BC'er (it looks like new bar one small crack in headstock near the low B tuner which doesn't seem to present any problem at all). Well, here's a surprise, yet again I've decided my brain cannot adjust between 4 and 5 strings. Yes, I know ... that makes it the 3rd such FS thread today on BC in which a chatter has announced defeat at the hands of the low B string! So I would like to sell this for as close to the Euro 1,300 I paid (about £1,050) as possible - £1,000 is my price. Alternatively I would consider a trade for a Warwick Thumb (4 string only!) with cash adjustment my way, assuming its a BO There are several good photos in the original FS thread: http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1674992 BTW, it comes in the heavy-as-hell Warwick aluminium flight case and I have some Warwick tools + manual (not from this bass but given to me by the Bass Gallery). Given the weight of the case, I would prefer a handover/collection (I am in London) but postage is possible. PS, the bass itself weighs 10.6 pounds and the broadneck string spacing (20mm) is designed to be close to that of a Precision Cheers Clarky

John just bought my Kala U-bass. Had a quick meet-up and chat at Hammersmith tube and I concur with the above that he's a very friendly and honest guy! Would happily do biz again

Reverse true for me (re fixture gods). Its Arsenal v Chelski and my boy is ultra-keen to go. So I'm afraid i won't be attending this BassBash. Wil have a dig around though and see if there's anything I can lob in to the charity raffle

It was re-titled Affiliates and hot deals. It's at the bottom of the sub- forums in the Marketplace section

I bought this a month ago from German BCer Markus (BC name Bender ). Its a quite wonderful sounding bass in excellent condition but I have come to the conclusion that I simply don't enjoy playing its lined, narrow Jazz-type neck as much as the big old, chunky unlined neck on my Takamine B10 fretless. Tone wise, it has a piezo and volume control only and sounds warm and organic, close (but not identical) to a DB. BC'er chris_b has played it and thoroughly enjoyed it - and would probably be the proud owner if he wasn't so set on 5 strings. Looking to get back what I paid, which is £1500. These are rare beasts and this is a good price for one in such good condition. I am in London if you wanted to meet up /collect. There's a ton of pics on Markus' FS thread here http://basschat.co.u...b%20allen%20mb2

I have changed so much from my humble beginnings
Get Victor Wooten's Book the Music Lesson, its not technical at all, a pretty easy read and the most frustrating thing is that the 'characters' can kind of be bell-ends. But the stuff in there is pretty good.
Well I'll try anything. Just ordered it. Cheers Mr F -
I have changed so much from my humble beginnings

Interesting read. I am 48 and have now been playing in bands solidly for 7 years, starting in a death/thrash band, then a punk band, then a voodoo blues band (when I switched to double bass) and now my folk/country/flamenco outfit (still playing double bass). Throughout all of this I have struggled badly with any thing theoretical. I play patterns and learn bass lines by position on the board. I really have very little understanding of what I am playing. Thankfully I am quite good at learning lines and patterns and reasonably dexterous. However, I would dearly love to actualy understand what it is that I am doing on a bass. Reading BassChat does give me some major feelings of inadequacy as other BC'ers reel off theory, whether basic or complex, and I just don't get it. And I have yet to find a book that makes it any simpler. -
Wanted: Low Tension Strings
Clarky replied to waynepunkdude's topic in EUBs & Double Basses For Sale
Hey Wayne, those low tension strings you tried on my DB were Innovation Silver Slaps in case this helps you narrow down your search (Golden Slaps are the same, just a different colour). They are £75 a set new http://www.stringexpress.co.uk/dbass.htm but do come up from time to time second-hand on BC -
I had the Presto Lights - nice strings, not dissimilar to Silver Slaps (which I prefer), just slightly high tension. Very rootsy and slappable but with a metal core so they can be used with a mag pickup (unlike SIlver Slaps) I am guessing the Ultra Lights would be near-identical in tension (and maybe even lower tension) than Silver Slaps but I couldn't speak for the tone.
