Been a while bump -
After a flurry of three gigs (and a video shoot) in 9 days, there's a short gap until our next gig. This will be at the Apple Tree in Clerkenwell, London (quite close to Farringdon) on Sunday 27 May. Entry is free and the music is roughly from 4-9pm with the last band on at getting-home-friendly 7pm. I believe we will be onstage around 6pm. Good gig tonight (Bull & Gate, Kentish Town) and an OK turn-out given the dreadful weather. A few feedback problems with DB as I was stood by six-foot high monitors but worked my way round this. Very enjoyable [attachment=107490:P1050118.JPG]

Thats good to hear as its such an iconic building. As you know, its just up the road from me and I've seen loads of famous musicians come out of there over the years (Madonna, Brian Ferry, Spice Girls, Oasis, err Sham 69! etc etc) Enjoy

Cool, thats for that Musky. Next time I record something, I will actually (1) think about what I am going to play beforehand (2) not do so wearing my work shirt with dinner stains down the front (Thai beef salad, yum) and (3) reject it if the playing is totally sh*tty

Also I used a pick, even though I haven't played with a pick for a year. Rusty or what. But you get the picture! Edit: OK, it doesn't work. Technology yet again defeats me. I have it on email if anyone's interested!

[/quote] I think its a combination of the fact that Latin rhythms are often quite staccato and that the bass is amplified, so you don't have to dig in. There's no reason why it can't be played more like a traditional double bass (I did, except for faster passages) so that the notes ring more.
