1. Sounds like one where my good friend lozbass will be wondering whether he should have a crack at 5's again as it ticks most of his boxes (sonic blue, Celinder)
2. Congrats, will never forget my first double bass gig (dressed as a zombie of course). Huge feeling of satisfaction And blimey a Martin is not a shabby DB to start on either!
3. Here's my lot http://www.facebook.com/Basschat#!/queensravens
4. My next gig with ATQR is on Friday 22nd June at the Wilmington Arms in Clerkenwell/Islington. We should be onstage about 9pm. Cheers! http://www.thewilmingtonarms.co.uk/
5. Compare with the taste and tone here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sajihaV1rGk&feature=related
6. I used to have a few of Jaco's later CDs (eg, with Bireli Lagrene) and his tone absolutely went to pot (possibly literally) after the first couple of Weather Report albums. This sounds a bit like the live track Slang from Weather Report Live 8.30pm (I think thats what its called) and its horrible, showy and nasty sounding. Compare this with the fluidity and sublime tone of say Havona on Heavy Weather and its chalk and cheese to me
7. Here ya go Shaggy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iwck-LNnUic
8. Thanks Sean! I lucked out big-time, getting this gig http://vimeo.com/30684003 (with previous bass player, before you ask where the shock of white hair has gone!)
9. From yesterday's gig at the Apple Tree in Clerkenwell. Showing you can pull a Jimmy Page pout with a double bass ... and look just as silly
10. Gotta love the internet. A vaguely p*ssed rant after midnight on Saturday and we're up to four sides of debate, reasoned argument and occasional heckling FWIW, I think rosewood and blocks on a sunburst Jazz looks wonderful (eg, wot's early 70s Jazz) and white blocks on a maple board too (eg, the lovely white Jazz sold by glenhughes that was previously wombatboter's). But I maintain my argument from my OP that black blocks on maple are unsightly, especially with a paler bodied bass
11. here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDWVzBO-eQE
12. Drop a PM to chris_b I think he has been looking for one of these for ages
13. I think its RIM Basses that uses Q-tuners
14. Well that was a cracking gig! Many thanks to Billy Apple (Sean or is it Shaun?) for coming along. Lovely to meet you and glad you hooked up with some nice people for beers and chat
15.
I'm going to have a wander up to town and [s]see if I can hit up some skirt[/s] take in the sights. 6pm sounds very civilised, will get myself along.
That would be fab, cheers and I will buy you a beer
16. OK, weather forecasts were wrong and it's still scorching. So if anyone fancies a break from roasting themselves (yes, I am struggling here ) get yo selves down to the Apple Tree for some folk, flamenco, country and blues casserole
17. Sorry, yes I may be pished but maple boards with black blocks (Geddy Lee Jazzes, another thread on a seafoam green FSR Precision) are plain fugly to me. SHoot me down and I know its personal taste ... but really. Its like a Porsche in orange or a Capri with stripes down the side to me, just ugly and tasteless. I expect to be blocked by countless BC'ers for this
18. Hey Emanew, thats a really good price. You should try advertising on Warwick forum too (there's some fretless basses there for sale so you might even get a trade going) http://forum.warwick.de/forum.php
19. Crikey that reads really badly. Have to say the Nash 63J's I owned both played and sounded very nice. My only gripes were a cheap-ish tort-substitute s/p and the fact the 'clay dots' were shiny white plastic rather than aged
20. Would have LOVED to have been there but the Missus wasn't keen When I saw Wobble play 'Visions of you' on TV with Sinead O'C ten or more years ago he was playing an Ovation Magnum
21. Can't make it due to family responsibilities but hope you have a spiffing time .. and yes, pics please
22. So, they are forecasting the weather won't be so fabulous tomorrow. In which case, the Apple Tree pub in Clerkenwell seems like a good place to go to late afternoon ... and you can then take in the harmonies of All The Queens Ravens at 6pm
23. From memory it was roughly 3 weeks until I got refunded the £700-odd for my faulty amp ... and that was after multiple cross, nagging emails without which I suspect it would have taken even longer
