I see he will entertain trades for high end studio gear, I have an Alesis compressor that Paul McCartney once walked by in a crack convertors window.....I think that suggests a similar pedigree and hence similar values....I would offer him a trade if I didn't still need the compressor and fully intend to pass it on as a legacy to my son

He sounds about as appealing to deal with as the Taliban! -
Do you guys ever get pee'd off with JUST being the bass player?
Roger2611 replied to Highfox's topic in General Discussion
My latest project....10 minutes from set up to final take on the bass, still on our 3rd day getting the guitar parts right, the band all said "how come you can just turn up and get it right in one go"...easy I am JUST the bassist Fortunately we are all recording our parts individually on our own recording gear so there are not costs involved other than our time, mixing wise we all have a copy of all of the individual tracks to take away and create our own mix from it.....first time we have done that and boy, mixing is not straight forward at all. I am really loving working this way -
So, you've owned four Stingrays then!
I'm on my 4th Stingray and I thought I liked this one! You are probably correct and I just want to like it and very shortly the magic will wear off and out it goes again Still on the upside I only have one Jazz just can't get on with it at all and have absolutely no gas for another.....so final Stingray gas sorted, Jazz gas sorted Precisions in place so gas should now be a distant memory.....yeah I bet

I doubt it would fetch more than a couple of hundred quid, probably a lot of guitar for £200.00 but I doubt it is especially desirable

Stunning? Rough as a badgers ***e
Roger2611 replied to alembic1989's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
It has the same appeal to me as a Badgers ass -
We played with one that was on the wall behind us so we couldn't see it when playing, we played as quietly as possible had absolutely no atmosphere throughout the set and the stupid thing was we only tripped it out once and that was during the quietest song we played .....oh yeah just to top it off the reset button was in another room entirely. We have vowed we will not play another venue with a limiter

I have used 2000 grit wet and dry (used wet with a bit of washing up liquid in to make it even less abrasive) on a rather too shiny Les Paul, it takes the shine off nicely and would polish back up to a deep glossy shine if needed

Yeah our drummer takes about 30 minutes to set up his Bon Jovi stadium sized kit ( std kit plus 2 floor toms 4 rack toms and about 320 cymbals!) in the Dog and Duck then we squeeze in around him.....nice orange sparkly kit though it looks great when I up light it

Yeah smoke from passive speakers would be a bad thing.....very off the wall question but any power amp you are running wouldn't be a Harrison amp would it?

How do you enter the stage..so to speak...at a gig?
Roger2611 replied to Jigster's topic in General Discussion
We clamber over the monitors, tune up silently get just about ready to go then the vocalist announces he needs a pee and we stand there like lemons for five minutes! -
I have just brought a Sterling Ray34, it's ok, I suppose....sort of like a good Mexican Fender....yeah it's good but it's not quite the real deal.....I can immediately see the difference between this one and the American H/S Stingray I didn't get on with last year.....The neck is not finished to the same standard, the nut is different, the battery compartment is cheaper and I think the eq range is quite a bit less. Overall I am not taken with it, used it at my last rehearsal alongside my trusty Precision the band all agreed the Precision sounded far better than the Sterling.....shame really because I love the look of the bass

Is last night's audience of one a record?
Roger2611 replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
Yeah we played a town centre bar last year, we turned up and the single barmaid said "you won't see a soul through those doors before 11.15 and by the way finish at 11.10 please.....she was correct and even she disappeared 10 minutes in to our set and only came back at half time......to make matters worse the guitarists son and daughter staggered in at 11.20 and demanded to know why we had finished playing......stupid thing was, in the 40 minutes it took to pack away the place filled up and no end of the punters asked what time the band was starting and were peeved that we had already finished. The venue stopped having bands after that and closed down a few months later -
WTF!

Advice on a new cab please under £300 notes
Roger2611 replied to kevvo66's topic in General Discussion
If you are lucky you may pick up a used Markbass 102 traveller cab, they are fantastic and nice and light -
I was sad to part with my Stingray, I really wanted to get on with it and selling it was admitting defeat.....even more sadly I have brought another one and ......you guessed it I don't get on with that either......damn you Musicman must you tease me so

We had a similar experience last night, we played a 25th wedding anniversary party at a local golf course restaurant, we deliberately used the small PA amp to keep the volume down, we definitely weren't too loud, still had the local residents complaining by 9.30 so we had to shut all the windows....it meant an early finish for us. I asked the owner afterwards if they had other bands on and he said the agreement for licensing was they could have a live band 4 times a year but irrespective of that they would receive a raft of complaints every time they put a band on. I guess some venues just shouldn't put live music on but then on the other hand maybe residents should be a little more understanding when a venue is doing its best to keep things under control. Buy a house near a music venue, complain consistently about the noise, get said venue closed down....sell house for increased amount as no longer near music venue!
It's not the responsibility of the performers, the venues need the licence.
I thought that had changed recently and pubs no longer needed a license to put on live acts if the capacity was under 250 people? or is that a different license?
