2. Here is my current guitars...sadly not seeing a lot of use at the moment
3. Ok,finally got round to taking a photo of the current family......enjoy
4. Yeah, I tend to be exhausted the day after most gigs, I still put everything into each gig so am knackered and ache the day after....so perfect for a 4 hour recording session this afternoon then.....and next week a 4 hour practice, and the following week a radio session....not really thought that one through have I!
5. I brought a Black on Black Strat 1firstly because I liked it, secondly it was the iconic guitar edge used on the live at Red Rock gig so I guess they do have a decent tie to Fender, but quite why either need to make shrewd financial investments is slightly beyond me, between then don't they own pretty much everything anyway?
6. Our vocalist brought a brand new SM58 for £40.00 unsurprisingly it was a fake, the first obvious difference was the weight, the fake weighed a fraction of the the original we have, it sounded ok, don't know how long it would have lasted, he chucked it away because it was a fake.....£40.00 for a brand new SM58 what was he expecting...what is it they say..."if it sounds too good to be true...." muppetry if you ask me
7. Best advice I can offer is to get you amp high enough or tilted so it is pointing at your ears rather than your ankles, ears work much better than ankles for picking up sounds
8. I am a big fan of new strings, I start to notice after the second gig that the strings are losing their edge, unfortunately I can't afford to change them every other gig so they have to last a couple of months or so, but by the time I take them off I can't wait to get that crisp edge back
9. I used to gig a Les Paul, then a Junior, then a 335, always took my Strat as a back up, ended up selling the others and just using the Strat, unadventurous, yes, predictable...again yes, Swiss army knife of guitar oh yes.....mine is a beautiful Japanese 62 std reissue in Lake Placid Blue with a set of Custom Shop 69's under the hood
10. Our PA guru is not a fan of JBL gear he feels it is way too expensive to repair when compared to any of its rivals, he hires out EV gear, our drummer has just brought the ZLX15P as a drum fill, it is a cracking bit of kit and is fully useable as a FOH speaker Link is below [url="http://www.google.co.uk/aclk?sa=L&ai=CVZ6MM0x6U4rDIarSiwac2oDQCozJxvoEvIzAsJcBmO35jNMBCAkQASDezc8eKDZQ2c3drPj_____AWC7hrOD0ArIAQepAgfaStOTPrw-qgQjT9BIpAPOpNnaipJIM22fnSZ1AEbQJIkgB8JrnCMYoHqFdzrABQWgBiaAB6S82jGQBwHgEuqS36Gu56CwlgE&sig=AOD64_3_9P3tQ63TFALL2pARS8GQVwQ4_Q&ctype=5&rct=j&q=&ved=0CFcQ2CkwAA&adurl=http://www.phase1live.co.uk/sound-c16/pa-speakers-c18/active-pa-speakers-c20/zlx15p-active-1000-watt-class-d-powered-pa-speaker-single-speaker-p1126/s1150%3Futm_source%3Dgoogle%26utm_medium%3Dcpc%26utm_term%3Dev-zlx15p-active-1000-watt-class-d-powered-pa-speaker%26utm_campaign%3Dproduct%252Blisting%252Bads"]EV ZLX15P Active 1000 watt class d powered PA speaker
11. Mrs2611 and I have been to see a few tribute bands recently, we have seen Rumours of Fleetwood Mac, The Illegal Eagles and last night we went to Bedford to see Abba Reunion.....I have to say I was totally blown away by the musicianship and the quality of all of the bands I will probably never get to see any of these as the original bands but having seen these tributes I come away happy in the fact that I doubt seeing the original line up would be a much better experience. I think in this day and age where the selling of music is almost becoming secondary (due to the download culture) to live performance, I think these guys and girls have the right idea....I will be pushing both of my bands to make live performances something special. I don't know if any of the bass players from these bands are on BC but if you are, thanks for three wonderful evenings Rog
12. I have had a couple of Jedson's, A Les Paul copy and a Telecaster copy whilst neither were top notch both were very playable
13. I watched a bit of it on the Red button the other morning, I wasn't very impressed, I didn't the Debbie Harry was putting any effort into the vocals and I wanted to punch the guitarist for playing inappropriate solos during classic hits. Mrs2611 said exactly what I was thinking, "well we won't need to bother going to see Blondie will we" Shame really they were one of the seminal bands of the late 70's and early 80's
14. I personally have a lot of love for the Tokai ALS48 (Les Paul) our guitarist prefers mine to his proper Gibson LP, pop a set of SD59's in place of the standard pickups and it will sound as good as it looks and plays. An ALS48 with upgraded pickups should still come in within your budget
15. For me, if it is your favourite bass, you use it onstage all the time and if some scumbag stole it you would hunt them down like Terminator and then remove their testicles with a cricket bat....then it's your high end bass
16. Anyone else with any ideas?
17. Marmite basses, people seem to either love them or hate them, I am afraid I fall into the latter category, I love the look and the way they play I just can't get a sound out of them that I am happy with, I am back to my favourite Precision played through a Tech 21 Bass VT pedal
18. I know we all get the hump on here with Rickenbacker's stance on fakes but I think Martin should hunt this guy with a pack of dogs
19. I had problems with DPD today, they text me twice asking where I wanted the item delivered, twice I said deliver to the house opposite, so they tried to deliver today, I was out, as expected, tried my next door neighbour who is disabled and can't get to the door so they took it away again! I needed it for tonight's gig so had to go chasing the driver round town to meet up and collect it, ok it was sorted in the end but it was a hassle I didn't need on a Friday afternoon, DPD's excuse...a computer glitch......B'stards
20. As the above great for unblocking the sink.....the OP about using them on a strimmer sounds very scary, it could have your leg off
21. I think it is too expensive I have just sold a mint SB330 for less than that, there was a really nice SB465 on Evilbay recently which again went for less than that
22. Ooh my heart says yes but my spine says no, the best sounding cab I ever owned, I sold mine for twice that price, it paid my Chiropractor bills for at least a year after I sold it!
23.
If its the Oly white with white plate, I nearly bid on that! I see the starting price has now gone up a bit...? To be honest if I had known at the time it was a BCer I probably would have done but there's that many conmen on ebay it put me off.
That is the one, I stuck the reserve up just out of frustration at the stupid offers I have had on it like, will you do a straight swap for my Mexican Tele and a £10 practice amp!
24. Is it not about the subtlest degrees of improvement? If this mains cable makes a tiny difference when compared to a std kettle lead then combined with a decent speaker cable again making a subtle difference then finally the connecting cable again giving a further subtle improvement do you not end up with something that sounds that bit more special? I am skeptical about the claims for this mains cable but those who can afford to buy one can probably afford to invest that money into their passion and won't lose sleep over it if they don't see a marked difference, I was tipped off about some RCA connecting cables a few years back, I had a decent quality (Black Rhodium) set in place and someone I trusted said "try some of these they are a fair bit cheaper than what you have got but they sound fantastic" I was skeptical but took the plunge and tried them...they are still in place...why, because they do open up the sound more......sorry but I can't remember who made them but they are special. I used to work for a Rolls Royce dealership many years back and spent time swanning round in £250.000 Bentley's, that was 100 times more than my car was worth at the time, was the Bentley 100 times better, quite simply no but to the people that owned them spending £250.000 on a car was like me spending £10.00 on a car, they could afford what they perceived as the best so they brought what they perceived as the best. I can understand that
25.
Speaking a guitar-fumbling bass player, I can vouch for what you say here. I was rehearsing with our Disco band last night using my 15w Blues Jr and while it's plenty loud enough (I was running it at only about 3 on the Master and 6 on the Gain) it just sounds too thin for my liking. That could be the fact that the cabinet is so small and tight; but I think it is more about the power rating and head-room of the amp. The Blues Jr just doesn't have the same presence, authority and depth of my two bigger combos, a 35/65w MusicMan RD112 and a 50w Burman 501Pro. Guess I'll have to hump the bigger ones to rehearsals now..........
I used a CS Princeton reverb on stage which sounded fantastic and is only a 15W amp, does the Blues Junior have a 10" speaker? That may be the reason it is lacking authority and presence.....I had my Princeton converted to a 12" Vintage 30 it made the world of difference
