  1. I shall do more bonding with my Status Energy Matrix, the love affair is going well so far
  2. Will you monitor it and let us know when it is back up and running?
  3. When the drill slipped off the neck plate it took out the rest of the guitar with it
  4. I'd want to know the weight of it as he refers to it being very heavy in the text
  5. Jeez, where to start! Squire Bass VI, had it for 3 or 4 years still can't really find a use for it! Mustang Bass, full of short scale wonderfulness, used for one rehearsal so far, great bass just not finding a use for it! 63 Custom Shop Precision, wonderful instrument, very expensive, not favoured as much as my 50's classic so again sitting in a case not getting used 1981 Precision, Olly White / Black / Maple amazing condition, under 10lbs in weight, possibly too valuable to be using for pub gigs, not as good as my 50's classic so not making the bigger gigs, again sitting in a case unused! Westone Thunder III fretless, sits in it's case unused as I prefer the Bass Collection. That's just the basses, I have a couple of guitars that also see usage but have a few more that don't Yes, I am a collector, I like the collection and all the instruments in it are there for a reason but it does mean that some don't get used at all. Not the easiest thing to equate with myself at times!
  6. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-1976-Vintage-Neckplate/202702978682?hash=item2f3209fe7a:g:t5wAAOSwlLBc~XHR Have a close up look at the wear on the neck plate, I am trying to work out what kind of normal wear and tear would create the plethora of spiral scratches on the chrome, it's almost as if someone attacked it with a drill for some unknown reason! perhaps it was a recognised cleaning method back in 76!
  7. I don't want to derail the thread but, can I challenge that, as far as all the information I have heard they don't think you can catch it twice? Do you know something we don't?
  8. I had a lodger many years back who was a bit of a Walter Mitty character, apparently he was a military trained helicopter pilot, ex SAS and still had time to be a founder member and bass player for the goth band Children on Stun, I decided to call his bluff one day and handed him my bass, he had clearly seen a bass before as he managed to hold it the right way up but I doubt he had ever actually played one before, but he made a half hearted attempt to bash the strings with one finger....his response on handing the bass back was "I'm a bit rusty!"
  9. We have lost two festivals overnight due to virus fears, fortunately? we don't rely on gigs for income and don't get deposits for gigs so we are not going to lose money from it, if fact it will actually be the opposite for me, I won't be shelling out on fuel to get to and from the gigs!
  10. Never been there, probably never likely to but signed anyway as I am sick of greedy developers trying to kill live music in this country
  11. I have the joys of authorising repairs to ex hire cars so they can be disposed of in the correct manner, I also have the "joys" of charging that damage to the parties responsible, so as you can imagine, it is conflict all the way! Yes, you are all completely correct, the glamour is unimaginable
  12. Now that's how not to advertise something!
  13. Under 9 lbs good 9 - 9 1/2 lbs not ideal but maybe for a really nice bass Over 9 1/2 sorry, but too heavy
  14. EV did a nice light weight 2 x 10 powered monitor a few years back, it was not overly expensive (£350 ish from memory) A drummer I was working with used one, stunning sounding bit of kit for the money. I have a Proel 1x 12 powered monitor (very much a copy of the Turbosound mentioned above) I brought that new for about £350 and have been really pleased with it, it has no on board EQ but sounds fine out of the box, so as long as what you send to it sounds good it will happily replicate that sound for you
  15. Brilliant, what wonderful showman / show-womanship almost Les Dawson esq in how it was done!
  16. That is priced at the bottom end of full fat Stingray money, great basses but surely they have to be priced below that of the higher end instruments? I brought mine for £300.00 which I thought was just below market value at the time
  17. Hi all, I have just picked up a Status Energy Matrix bass in a decent used condition for a fair price, as always seems to be the case with the plain wood finish on the body it does show quite a lot of wear above the pick ups, would it be sacrilege and destroy any resale value if I have the top veneered with a cherry / burred walnut / quilted maple finish? I would get it done by a qualified person as, although not overly complicated a job, I am sure my DIY skills would not come up to scratch! What do you think? Rog
  18. The Clash, Joe's lyrics, the anger, the political stance, everything about them was exciting on the first album Stiff Little Fingers, Jake's lyrics introduced me to world I knew little or nothing about and through countless albums SLF continue to deliver, Ali's bass playing and the brilliant live performances all add up to SLF being a seminal band for me! The Chameleons, introduced me to beautiful arrangements, stunning pieces of music and the fact that you don't have to have commercial success to qualify as a massively influential artist Although Frank makes a very compelling argument that Crass should have been one of my three!
  19. Whiteman in Hammersmith Palais - The Clash Alternative Ulster - Stiff Little Fingers Holiday in Cambodia - Dead Kennedy's All still as important to me now as they were as a spotty 15 year old "oik"
  20. I think the live performance has been shown before, if it is the same concert it was excellent!
  21. The USA subs are now pushing firmly into the same range that the prime US basses are being offered at, I know they are basically one and the same instrument (I actually prefer my Sub over the higher range basses) but it does seem strong to be expecting the same prices as the far more expensive basses. For me it is the same with the JV Squier's you see them being offered up at more that a late 70's USA Fender which seems mad in a way
  22. I have just brought a Soundcraft UI24-r to use as an enclosed in ear monitor system for the rock band I play in but it is so much more than just an enclosed monitor system, it is incredibly capable as the main and monitor desk, paired with a nice old pair of EV SX200's and a power amp of your choice you have a wonderfully capable pa system that is not overly expensive and is a mix between old school and modern technology, look into the likes of these new fangled digital mixers, they really do appear to offer a huge number of options in the heart of building a modern PA system!
  23. I realised a long time ago that, when it comes to instruments (especially Fender's and Gibson's) top of the range doesn't necessarily mean the pinnacle of playability, I have a couple of US Precision's that sit in cases whilst Mexican or bitsa basses get the gigs, it has likely saved me thousands of pounds in disappointing spends on high end famous basses when I know the budget stuff can be so capable and rewarding! Perfect example, I have now owned and sold 3 really nice Gibson Les Paul's whilst I have kept and still love a bottom of the range Chinese built Tokai Love Rock, which guitarists in two of the bands I played in have chosen to record with over their USA expensive counterparts! Both have offered to buy the guitar if I ever choose to sell it. The best £300.00 I have ever spent.
  24. I believed that for a short while, once the studio was packed full I found the infamous "under the bed" storage area, that's where the Gretsch now resides, imaging my surprise last week when I went to the back of the wardrobe to dig out an old shirt I wanted and I find my old Kawai K4 keyboard leaning against the back of the wardrobe!
