3.
I know you didnt,I was paraphrasing the Teacher that was talking to me.... My friends in the same sort of thing as you,his is film/tv score and production...at Leeds, and he is like you learning digital, because the work is on that scale..small,in the home studio. My snipey comment was about 'Popular' music courses in the UK.
Fair enough, but the thing is, they have to teach you the digital methods because that's what the whole industry is using now
4.
Its amazing for mastering....it saves time, but if you cant mic properly..play in time...tune up ...without digital assistance,WITHOUT the ability to do such a thing without un-natural aid..learning the intricacies of a room, the way a mic...even mics of the same brand ,behave....do you really think that digital is going to fix that?.
I never said that, i never even hinted towards that, you're just saying exactly what i said two posts ago, what's your point? And everything breaks down, digital or not. sh*t happens.
5.
Sorry,I disagree.....when you have a lad that clicks a mouse button to add room ambience, over simply moving the Mic,you have a problem,Ive not met that many under 21s that can mic up a drum kit properly,or younger soundguys cope without triggers.....Hell its not hard to mic a kick,Ive watched some utterly botch it.
I don't see what's so bad about the digital revolution, it just makes capturing and manipulating trhe sound easier, the physical element of using mics to get the best possible sound is still there. And the way you mic up a drum kit is entirely subjective, as long as you get the sound you're after then it doesn't matter what you do to it.
I also think..though I have no proof..That to pass a popular musical 'course' is laughably easy financial transaction with somewhat small musical value.
Maybe you shouldn't make such sweeping generalisations like some other people have been in this thread. I'm not even going to bother arguing, you obviously haven't experienced many musical courses
6. I think maybe the ratio of good musicians has gone down, it's easier for people to get hold of an instrument these days, and easier to teach yourself, obviously you'll probably be a better musician if you're taught by a teacher rather than the internet or something. I'll confess, i've taught myself, and i don't think i'm great, but it's about having fun for me. I really think there are some great young musicians out there right now though. You might say "worse than 20 years ago", i'll say different. Certainly not worse though by any stretch of the imagination. As for you old gits saying "the youth of today are useless, stupid lazy etc blah blah whinge whinge". Shut up and open your eyes.
I would to a certain extent disagree. My last band was full of teachers so we played a couple of times during "judges' deliberation" in schools battle of the bands evenings. The technical ability of the musicians that proceeded us was way above what I and most of my class-mates were capable of 30 years ago when we were of a similar age. However what was missing was innovation and musical risk taking. Not one of the bands played an original composition and instead kept it safe by playing well-known covers (even I recognised all of them). Of course I think it's much easier these days to to get technically proficient (if you have the dedication to put in the practice) there's plenty of aids available to show you how to play stuff - tabs, instructional videos etc. If I wanted to learn a song I would have to sit down with the record and my bass and work it out for myself by ear, plus my parents hated that I was wasting my time with such a low-brow for of entertainment as "popular music".
When we run battle of the bands, we tend to impose a "no covers" rule. There are some really good musicians around here, not a lot, but there's one or two guitarists that are BLOODY good.
Protools has destroyed microphone technique...
I disagree! I'm doing a music tech course now, and no amount of fiddling will make a bad mic placement sound like a good one! The only exception to that is probably reverb/ambient mics, and they don't even sound the same.
7. I just thought i'd let you know that according to paypal's rules, the seller isn't allowed to surcharge the buyer for fees, you're just going to have to live with them. Nice bass though, good luck with the sale.
8. the photos are better than some i've seen, the price is hiiiiiigh though
9.
Here's the real tip. Ask for batteries for your birthday. That way you'll always know when they were last changed , always change them and (in my experience of my basses with 'normal' use) they'll never go flat on you. Oh - don't ever pinch the PP3 out of the smoke alarm as this can prove highly dangerous in the event of your wife finding out !!!
I asked for batteries for my birthday and nobody bought me any
10. Sanding with a plane? madness i tell ye! Also i think that thing in the first pic was a pin router?
11. niice, that's a cool bass one of the old carbon ones? (I don't know much about steinies)
12. hah, yeah it's pacific blueburst and IMO, one of the best colours you can get on a ray! good luck with the sale
13. Christ.... some people really do make me wonder...
14. This is a really cool build, can't wait to see it finished!! What colour you having it? A blue or cherry burst would look awesome i think
15. bump for lowered price, this guitar is a real cracker
16. For sale is my epi lp standard in black with gator hard case, it has a few dings etc but is largely in good condition. I'm based in notts, so feel free to pop round for a go on it. As for price, i'm thinking £200 + postage, maybe negotiable, i would prefer not to post though. I will be including the pickguard, i just thought it looked better off.
17. a 70's tele bass is one thing, a '51 precision is something totally different!
18.
Hi, sorry about the late-ish answer. The Tapco TH-15A is an active loudspeaker. It has a built in power amp, and a three-band EQ with sweep mid. And volume control. The silly thing is that it only has XLR inputs, so an adapter cable will be needed. I modified mine to have a hybrid jack/XLR connector. This little thing is dirt cheap compared to the amount of punch it deliveres. Very nice for my savings account. The 15" woofer is suceptible to over-excursion though, so low bass notes will make it fart. It still has punch though. And, I don't know if this is an error with my unit, but at low volumes the softest details in the sound dissapears. Very annoying. I'll try to figure out what it is - but it's one of those new-fangeled digital (or class D) amps so I don't know how far I'll get. Anyway, the short answer is that I just plug my bass directly in the back of this speaker.
Considering it was designed to be run at high gig volumes and to deal with mid frequencies rather than bass, i can't say i'm too surprised but if it works for you then that's fine
19. love the mojo on the SR5! White basses always look awesome with some good mojo
20. i really hope that's a 51 RI Cool project though, makes me want to finish my musicman
21. that top wood is gorgeous did you say you were leaving it natural? An amber or blue stain on there would look gorgeous to me!
22. nice, i've always wondering why more people don't use silver for electronics rather than gold, it being cheaper and more conductive.... Looks like a nice build, looking forward to seeing the end result, would look stunning with a red stain
23. You know what you need? A warwick corvette $$, yep
24.
LOL! It is very nice to play, with possibly the nicest neck I've encountered, but I find it gets a bit lost in the mix with the band (unlike a certain $$ I sold to fund the purchase ) On balance, following tips from several people on here, I'm going to fit the East pre-amp, and possibly a Nordstrand. Sacrilege to die-hard Stingray fans, but I'm hoping that will give me a fatter, more rounded tone. So, all PMs replied to - thanks for the interest, but now withdrawn (until the next time I change my mind!!)
Hey i promised myself i wouldn't mention that so as not to rub it in! May be a good idea to play with it a little though if you can afford it, make an instrument that feels right to you, sound right too. I hear the bartolini pickups sound a bit warmer and fatter with less attack if that's any help?
