1. indeed they are, though they tend not to stay in tune for long when a heavy handed bassist such as myself is let loose with one!
 2. I was listening to falling into grace by the red hot chilis (one hot minute), and i really love that funky bass sound, is flea using an envelope filter there? I have a fairly limited knowledge of effects you see. Also what are some decent cheap envelope filters, if that is indeed what i'm after? I did a quick search on GAK and all it brought up was a digitech one for £60. Not a bad price but i'm wondering if it's any good or if you guys could suggest any alternatives. I'd really like to avoid behringer if i can! cheers
 3.
1. The Seven Stars was in that sort of state 20 years ago. Cannot believe it is still limping along!!
It closed down about a year ago but it was bought out again, but i can't see it lasting long. I did visit magnet once, i didn't go into their rehearsal rooms, but they did have some very impressive gear.
 4.
Well the Alembic me and Kiwi owned for a bit ran up a price of $10,000 if ordered today, and that was without a couple of features like the 9 laminate neck, so maybe it would be even more... I am sure there are far more expensive ones out there though! Still, my best bass cost me only £500 and it slays them all! ped
Not bad! i thought you would have paid loads more than that! my most expensive cost me £430, and it's not going anywhere!
 5. it is indeed
 6.
How did you guess ????????????? I'll give the other place a try. Cheers
Just a stab in the dark who do you play for? I might know you! Do you know nobbzey? I played bass in his last band before he left, corrupted fate.
 7. hi mate You rehearsing in seven stars? That place has been going downhill for years try searching google/myspace for stuck on a name studios, really good practice rooms in sneinton.
 8. what he said ^^ if you're careful, you should be fine to adjust the truss rod yourself, i've done it before a few times. Here's a useful diagram:
 9.
Does anyone find it relatively easier to get gigs as a bass player compared to the plight of other instrumentalists? Since arriving in oxford I've been recruited to 4 orchestras/ensembles, house band for a jazz jam, my own jazz standards band, performing in Grease, offered a place with a local funk/soul covers band, starting a post rock group, an acoustic/folky group and received countless offers to jam with various friends. Not trying to brag, but just seems to be a really busy time workwise for me and was wondering if it was just luck or to do with playing upright and electric. I remember being told when I was just starting out that if I could play both that I'd be laughing, but this is pretty intense. Shame I'm supposed to be doing a degree at the same time! So what do you guys think? Is it easier to get gigs as a bass player?
It might be if i was a bit more flexible, but i'm struggling to get much right now. I've had a few offers etc but people tend to be unreliable, and it's SOO hard to find a decent drummer. I've not played live since halloween.... oh well. That said, i do have a session job some time next week, mint Still enjoying the jazz mate?
 10.
sure you can't send it to asia? oooh controversial
11. oh sweet, that looks lovely! the MM pickup is the wrong way round though? Or the right way, depending how you look at it
 12.
I'm getting close to happy now. The Sandberg does everything I could ask of it, and with flats on it now, it's the sound I've had in my head for ages. The only thing that scares me is the prospect of falling out of love with my 'Ray! It was my dream bass since the day I started playing, and I was always happy with it in the past, but it's not been touched in months. I used it for a rehearsal last week and it just didn't sound 'right'. Got the Sandberg out for the second run through and it all fell into place. I swore I'd always keep the Stingray as it was my first 'good' bass, but I'm starting to doubt myself now :s The only other thing bugging me is that I could do with changing my cab setup, for practicality and storage reasons, but I love the tone so much. I'm worried I'll get something else and be disappointed.
The same thing has happened with my SUB bass mate, i had wanted one for ages, finally got it and it was my number one... but the $$ just seems to taken that spot within a matter of days, a little bit upsetting really! I won't sell it though.
 13. I was a little disappointed, the run down of all the p/jazz basses seemed pretty pointless to me, you can find all that info anywhere else without much trouble, but they left a huge hunk of space under each of them that could have been filled with pros/cons and an out of 5 rating easily. they also missed the squier vintage modified J and p basses, which out of experiece, i'd rather have out of any of the others they listed. Also, what's on the year late review on the BFR stingray? Weren't they announced at winter namm last year? I know the bass cellar have had one for a while now. Some ok interviews though with dave ellefson and paulo gregoletto. I thought the review of the traben was good too, looks like an interesting bass. I do think it's a decent mag though, shame it only comes out every couple of months, i've bought the last five issues though
 14.
I can't stand this obsession so many bassists have with SEEING THE WOOD! Don't get me wrong, I love the look of wood - but only as furniture or on those wimpy guitar things, of which I have a few with natural finishes. So many high end basses have hideous natural finishes with highly figured woods, laminates, bindings, inlays. They look so horribly MUSICIANLY. I would be embarrassed going on stage with one because they look so uncool. I probably have emotional issues you can help me deal with.
I know what you mean, on some high end basses it really does look bad, like some burls really look nasty to me, but maybe not to others. I think Simon1964's singlecut with the natural ebony top looks really slick, i love that, not to busy looking. I like natural maple and like simpler woods if you know what i mean, not figured, but there is a limit, for me anyway. Though i do love a nice quilt/flame maple top with a nice trans finish over it, mmmmm.
There's a gorgeous limited edition one in GAK at the moment, zebrano, pearl inlay at the 12th fret. It's 5 string though.
just looked at it, not a big fan of zebrano, or that style of MM pickup, not good for resting your thumb on. Not a big fan of fivers either, each to their own!
 15.
Completely fabulous aren't they!! I want a fretless $$ in white high polish now.
mm, yeah, i definitely wouldn't say no to another, i've actually been GASing for a streamer $$ a little bit, but my corvette fulfills everything i need in a bass. So much growl it's unbelievable! I'm feeling the $$ love!
 16. I'm not too sure where northampton is, but if you go for brum, i might show my face.
 17.
love my $$ to a disturbing level, never been this happy with a bass
+1000000!!!! This is the first time i've been GAS free for a while, thanks to my $$!
 18. I've always thought that wood isn't as important as some people make out. Yeah you can tell when you're playing the bass solo, but when it's in the mix, does it REALLY make that much difference? I've seen bands where the bassist uses an £80 encore p-bass, and had he been using an american fender, it still wouldn't have been that much different. I think electronics make a lot more difference than woods, in my experience anyway, and i've always found that cheaper basses can do the job perfectly well (my most expensive bass cost me £420 and i couldn't ask for anything better)
 19.
Not it's wrong, but I think I'd take that with a pinch of salt...
+1, plenty of people don't fill the gaps and they've been fine.
 20. I'd like to be able to tune down to G, to play things like all that remains, but i won't be able to find the strings!
 21. I play anywhere between Drop C and standard usually...
 22. oh wow, that's gorgeous, nice one!!
 23. there are no pics of me anyway
 24.
i'd piss on her if she asked
yeah same
There is - it's called CRACK
Fixed.
