Electric Guitar Company?
This lot - http://longfellowguitars.com There's a pic of Steve's bass at the bottom of the page.
With regards to tone, I am able to get a similar tone with the combo and the head, although the head has a pretty gnarly sub effect that destroys Ashdown's version. T
Do watch your volume while using the sub effect - they are quite capable of destroying your speakers as well. If that gnarly sound is added distortion that's the first sign that your speakers are complaining. You'd need to lose some bass and/or volume to keep them safe.

I'm not sure enough people have seen it to make it one of BC's iconic basses, but I always loved Dangerboy's ali Longfellow.

Where to get 9v li-ion Rechargeable Batteries?
Musky replied to Seer73's topic in Accessories and Misc
we use a lot of rechargeable batteries but only for clocks and remotes etc. I wouldn't use them for my bass.
I'm with Chris on this. When rechargeable batteries go flat, they go very quickly. I wouldn't want to find that the battery dies during a gig. Alkaline may not last as long but they lose their charge more gradually and give you some warning that they're on the way out. -
Like the idea of taking a cheap one out and bringing an expensive one back
I always liked that idea until a read in a music mag that they were well aware of that ploy. I read that back in 1978. This is what Customs do for a living, day in day out. They've seen it all before.
Just out of interest, are you using 8mm akoume all round?
If I remember correctly, it's a 9mm composite ply to Alex's spec. I've no idea what that spec is though.

If you don't take up Headofire on his offer you probably would be best off buying a cheap complete Thunder and using the best bits of each, selling what you don't need. There's a collect only Thunder on ebay at the moment for £75 if you live near Hampshire. If not they occasionally pop up for that sort of money anyway. I suspect you'll pay half that amount for a reasonable cheap neck in any case, and have the attendant problems with fit and intonation to deal with.

Yep. I took a look last night, and despite a £3.33 starting price the body text consisted of a graphic saying the starting price was £2500 with a buy it now of the same amount. His email was given several times with the instruction to contact him if you wanted to buy. And in spite of the sellers location being given as South Tottenham, the sellers actual address was listed as being in China. All that before you even got into the dubious nature of the bass itself!
Wasn't Kay the woolworths type, bargain bucket price of the 60's/70's ?
Back in the 50's Kay was a US made brand, and that's what this one is a copy of. The originals are quite sought after by guitarists.

Cheap Squier Silver Series MIJ on eBay
Musky replied to Ghost Rider's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I wonder how he came to the conclusion it was a CV, even though it says Silver Series on the headstock? -
I have a 78 Rick 4001. Just re strung it with Rotosound Jazz flats 110 - 50. The action is very high. I had a pro set up a year and a half ago as I don 't feel comfortable messing with the double truss rod. Seemed OK at the time. Do these instruments have a high action anyway...the neck is pretty thin ..or do I need lighter strings...its getting expensive trying different strings...or do I need another set up.
You need another set up. Joey's Bass Notes is very useful if you fancy giving it a go yourself.

Alternatives to velcro on a pedal? Also a good chorus pedal?
Musky replied to TheMissWolfiee's topic in Effects
You can use split bicycle chain to mount pedals, you could make up some wooden rectangles and screw the pedals to those and then put the Velcro on the wood. I won't be near a computer for another day or so, so can't post pics, but if you search for my 19" Pedal Board Build in the build diaries thread you'll see what I mean :-)
Yep, and you can buy mountings to do the job if you don't have a handy chain and chain splitter lying around. -
Sixties and early seventies 4001's had a .0047uf cap between the treble volume pot and the jack socket, which was there to cut the bass frequencies. Later models didn't have this until recently, when they added a push/pull pot to allow the option of either. The easiest way to see if you like what it does is to just add one in there and take things from there.

That's pretty poor. Try before you buy seems to be even more important on the other side of the pond. Meanwhile over here it seems the best luthiers can have their off years.

Just a thought, but Rosetta wasn't included as a default application with Snow Leopard. If you have any software that was written for PowerPC machines you'll need Rosetta to allow the software to run. There's an option to install it on the OS disk, or you can get it via the software upgrade.
Really? I have NEVER played a venue with house backline. A FOH PA yes nut never backline.
It might just be a London thing. At a guess I'd say 40% of the gigs I play in London have some form of backline available, and most of the rest encourage or insist on sharing gear. For the OP, you do need your own backline - you can get by with sharing or using the house kit for a while, but you'll come unstuck sooner or later. I'm guessing you'd like to use public transport, which is doable with a trolley and the right gear. Do you have a budget in mind?
That's quite a beast! £300 mark sound OK for a fretless 5 you think? Assuming of course decent condition etc.
I remember these things being all over ebay a few years ago, all at stupidly low prices. From that point of view £300 might seem a bit much, but then again they're not available now. I guess the real question is what other fretless 5ers are available for £300?
This kind of illustrates the whole rock=authentic, pop=artificial conceit - no offence intended Lowender, it's a long established phenomenon!
I must admit I view the disco backlash in the UK as an artifact of notions of authenticity as well. The wikipedia article makes or interesting reading, but I don't believe it can be generalised to the UK. Disco was grasped with both hands by the white working class in this country, and didn't fall away as it seems to have in the US. Large chains were converting pubs into discos well into the eighties. As a genre the music developed and reemerged as house and led directly to the rave scene, which itself found massive white working class support. Given the authenticities created around rock music, especially in respect of live music, I find it far more likely that in the UK at least the backlash had its roots disco's lack of credibility in the eyes of its critics.
Wow just when I thought I was starting to get my head around all this turns out I still know nothing! Is there a dummies guide to amps and cabs? It would be very useful indeed. So really the only way to know without going down that long winded route will be just test different heads through it and see what it can cope with?
You could take a read through some of Alex's information on his website, as well as the pdfs of articles he wrote for BGM. The main bit of practical info to remember is, if you can hear your speaker starting to groan under the strain, turn down the bass EQ and/or volume. Edit: Beaten to it. Twice!

There's been nothing particularly special about the few Korean Squiers I've tried, but they weren't bad basses either. If €160 is a reasonable price for a Squier in Portugal then it might be worth going for but I wouldn't pay a premium for it being made in 1989. FWIW the Japanese Silver Series were introduced pretty much as a response to a perceived drop in quality of Squiers back in the day.

You can certainly split your signal and run it to separate amps, but don't try then running the amps into a single cab! You'd effectively be connecting the two power stages of your amps together, which would release the magic smoke. There are some cabs which have separate inputs to differently sized speakers and are intended to be biamped, but the vast majority of cabs don't have that facility. Separate stacks and you're safe to go.

Nice looking Aria Pro II CSB Deluxe ( 1985)
Musky replied to Donnyboy's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I've got a CSB300 and a 380 and both were about £95 delivered. The last Deluxe I saw sold for £99 with just the one bid - I considered it myself, but I'd just bought the 380 and with the different positioning on the twin pickups I wasn't convinced I'd get the tone I loved on the single pickup models. So even allowing for the fact that prices have risen slightly in the intervening years, I'd say this one is priced a little hot. Mind you, they're not exactly common so we'll have to wait to see if anyone bites at this price.
