  1. Completely impractical for anything I've done, like, ever. Nonetheless, I recall starting out in the early days and hanging around the local library (I was wild back when): there was this picture in a book of some hippy playing one of these and, y'know ... Bass porn to an impressionable young lad
  2. In the 80's I owned a Hardpuncher ...which was a significant upgrade on any 80's Fender. It was a fabulous instrument.

    .

    Best jazzers going. Great basses!
  4. So sad to hear this news 😔
  5. People = problems. Every band in the history of ever has featured underlying tensions. I'm a great believer in a bit of give and take, but it has to be both.
  6. I own a custom Lionheart and concur regarding the quality, fit, and finish of Enfield basses. The pickups are sensational. Bargain!
  7. You know, it always comes back to this: one way or another people are a problem. A real quandary, I'm generally hopeless with this stuff but 100% agree ... no matter what, kindness is paramount.
  8. What can I say? I own a German built Will Lee Metroline and it's by far the best jazz bass I've ever owned (and I've owned many over 40+ years). Every aspect is ridiculously good.
  9. This is simple 'all or nothing' situation: what do the other members want? If they want her to proceed then insist she play bass on every song and leave. Everyone must get exactly what they want ... and own the consequences.
  10. I think a spare is good, professional practice to ensure 'the show must go on' and extenuate circumstances. If stinky poo can happen, then it probably will at some point. Oh, and in my experience literally nobody cares what bass you play.
  11. That very bass was for sale at Bass Direct a year or two ago. Reasonable price too if I recall.
  12. I've been thinking about this lately. 1986 Musicman Stingray straight into the desk at CAVA studio, Glasgow. I haven't owned a Ray since and often wonder why. Nothing but great memories of that axe. Maybe it's time.
  13. Don't play it the way JPJ played it, play it the way you think it should be played.
  14. I was surprised. It was evocative and moved me. I like it. I must be getting old.
  15. £220 normal gig, £400 party, £600 weddings: then again the context is we are a two piece outfit. Most venues in our area won't meet our prices post COVID. Cost of living and all that ... It's fine. No pay no play.
  16. I don't assess my playing at all, I let others do that 😉
  17. I salute you sir, that's the word (and insult) of the day in my book 🤣
