1. Awesome, many thanks 👍
2. Yeah, there's no way the BFR can compete with the BBC. It's a small fraction of the potential of it.
3. I recon so, although it's a pitch shifting chorus rather than LFO based.
4. Think the hold function will do it: http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=3867.0
5. The Roland GR-55 has the best detection of all the things I've tried. (Not had the pleasure of an IR yet!) it's also designed to add stuff to your original signal, where it works pretty well. Weirdly, the VB-99's bass to midi is much more latently - I assume it uses the same engine as the GR-55?
6. Yeah, I've been using mine a lot too. Line 6 really got it right with the 500x.
7. Hi all, About to embark on a Toto tribute band project replacing previous bassist. Before I start frantically transcribing I thought I'd see if you lot could help out. I've already written out the obvious ones: Hold the Line, Rosanna and Africa. Looking for accurate dots for the following: Girl Goodbye Home Of The Brave White Sister Afraid Of Love Falling In Between King Of The World I'll Be Over You Pamela Stop Loving You Hydra Thanks in advance.
8. This won't be here long...
9.
How does the skreddy cut through in a mix? Haven't been able to find any good demos
Really well, it's like a Big Muff you don't need a blend for to retain low end. It's voiced like a Super Tonebender which has much clearer mids. Cracking pedal, I'm surprised more bass players aren't using them. One of the best, if not the best Fuzz I've ever used.
10. I'm after a bag for this amp. I know some guys put their micro cabs in a cajon bag to transport them. Does such a thing exist? Or has anyone got an alternative?
11.
Some seasonal offerings which might save time prepping for gigs: Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone Slade - Merry Xmas Everybody More on the way...
Nice one, just had to do these and you've saved me a job transcribing it. Thanks.
12.
It's the floppiness though. I had a word with Andy from D'Addario, and he has recommended some short scale strings with better tension.
Ahh, nice. Please let us know how you get on.
13. Hey, how did you get on with the bass after a good setup? Have you gigged it yet? How's the string tension?
14. Bought a deco HB Uke bass from him. Was a perfect deal and he was very accommodating after my plans changed last minute. Top guy to deal with, highly recommended.
15. Thanks for all the positive comments people. I guess the bass and drums are very much linked, I know I often listen to the drums on a track before the bass. I'd love to have another go, but this time with a bit of prep - a few stock fills and some stuff to end songs with would have really helped.
16. I've been a gigging bass player for over 25 years, but I've never once played a gig on drums..until last night. Due to a mistake by the agent I somehow got booked onto my regular gig (a blues trio) with two guitar players and me. Trying to work out the best way forward, and after much chin scratching we realised that one of the regular drummers had left a full set of cymbals and some sticks. We set up the house kit and it was decided that one of the guitar players would play my bass and I'd be on drums! i'm no drummer, but kept it really simple and after a fews numbers settled into my new role. I actually really enjoyed it, by the end the gig we had people up dancing and even took a few request. Perhaps I've missed my calling?
17.
Ah another Flyrig user! A bass playing friend up here in the frozen North has just bought one of these and uses it as his whole rig. Bass -> Flyrig -> FOH -> in-ears. I'm such a luddite I don't think I could ever go that far, but he is well impressed with the Flyrig and he knows his bass onions.
Yep, I do that quite a bit too, just IEM's, bass and Flyrig. It's a great little setup.
18. Nice one, I've been playing this setup for the last few weeks now and really enjoying it:
19.
What settings have you settled with for the compressor? I'm running the Sansamp pretty much all the time but haven't sorted the octave yet.
This is pretty much how I set it up, small tweaks to taste on the gig. I'll use the amp to Eq the room and keep the Flyrig as set in the pic. XLR out from the Flyrig goes to the desk. I keep the Sansamp stage fairly clean and always on, I'll add a slight drive with the boost if need be. The compression is quite subtle just to fatten things up a bit:
20.
Tried a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Short Scale bass yesterday. This has a PJ pickup configuration. It has a neck the same size as a Jazz bass (the Precision PJ has the same size neck as a standard Precision) and was very comfortable to play. Love that neck!! I liked the P and J sound it made and also the combined PJ sound. I could quite easily see myself picking this up and learning on it. I know there's a full scale version that also has an active pre-amp. I found out that if the battery dies on this bass - it doesn't work at all even if you're using it purely in passive mode. 3 questions come to my mind. 1. How different would the short scale version sound compared to the long scale (assuming the long scale is in passive mode). Would it be very different or quite subtle? 2. I've read there can be issues with intonation on short scale basses - does anyone know if the short scale VM Jaguar suffers from them particularly? 3. On the long scale version would it be possible to add a physical switch on the body of the bass that would switch on the active pre-amp or switch it off completely to allow passive mode use even if there was no battery inside the instrument? Big thanks everyone!
I would say if you've tried the SS jag and you like it, get it. A few of my students have these and they are great little basses. I would also add that Yamaha make excellent basses, so you won't go wrong with one of those either. If you like PJ's the BB basses are fantastic.
21. Even compared to a 32" scale, the 28" scale feels flappy to me.
22.
It didn't make it to rehearsal, but I've tweaked away and sorted the alignment and neck. Not sure about the strings. A couple of them don't even have one complete wind around the tuning peg. I've not owned a short scale bass before, so I'm not sure if the string floppiness is normal?
I have a P Bass Jr which is a similar scale length to the Snapdragon. It certainly has an inherent floppyness to the string tension, particularly if you are used to a standard 34" scale instrument. I guess that's the payoff for such a portable bass.
23. Several more gigs under the belt with the Flyrig, still enjoying it. Here's a pic from my gig last night - Squier Silver Series P with a few mods and Jameson Labella Flats -> Bass Flyrig -> GK MB200 -> monitor wedge (supplied by the venue). Minimal, but perfect for my restaurant gig in town:
24. I've got one, it'll do what you want ,although I find it tends to work better with chords Than single notes.
