Those both look really good, unfortunately that just expands the possibilities and leaves me even more unsure 😐.

I have a hankering for synth bass. I've tried just about every pedal going and have come to the conclusion that I'm better off buying a dedicated synth keyboard and just playing that. Problem is I'm not sure what I need, it's a whole different world. Initially I'm only going to need it for a few covers; Human League, Depeche Mode, and a couple of slightly more modern pop songs, but ultimately would like to branch out and use it more. Things I'm thinking about are: Novation Bass station 2 Novation Mini Nova Microkorg XL Moog Minitaur Can anyone with any knowledge of the above or other products chip in to steer me in the right direction.

Following a recent for sale post regarding a Mk2 Ashbory bass, I was contacted by forum member Nick Riffed enquiring as to some replacement pre amps that I had been given by a friend who was one of the original builders of the Mk2’s. Nick had acquired an Ashbory Mk2 that had originally belonged to Alun Ashworth-Jones (the inventor or the Ashbory). I hope Nick won’t mind me posting an excerpt from our conversation; “Next year will be the 10th anniversary Alun's death and I would love the mk2 to be up and running in tribute to him. Sounds a bit daft in some ways but I think his contribution to the world of Bass needs to be recognised and that would be a step in the right direction.” Needless to say I helped out. Whilst we had had this conversation I contacted my friend (who had given me the pre amps) to tell him what had happened and he informed me that he still had some of the original batch of Ashbory Mk2 pre amps left. A few other Mk2 owners asking about the replacement pre’s have since contacted me. I am therefore writing this to gauge interest from other Mk2 owners who are in need of a replacement pre amp for their instrument. I could source a batch and them get them sent out. Being as the Mk2’s is such a rare beast (I believe the run to be just 90), I feel is worth trying to prolong the usability of the few existing examples. I also imagine that these are the last available replacements parts available in the world so would be keen to hear from owners seeking this support. Please feel free to post a reply on this thread or PM me to let me know if you would like me to try and get you a Mk2 pre amp. I am very keen to make this offer open only to Mk2 owners and not for builders wishing to build an new instrument round the pre or install one in anything other than a Mk2 Ashbory. Cheers Chris (Noirbass)

Having had the coincidence of a gig around the corner from Nick, I popped round to acquire an NS WAV bass from him. He was extremely helpful thorough the process, and very accommodating about my changing arrival times. He also talked me through the bass thoroughly before I walked out the door. Unfortunately, he allowed me to have a bash on his wonderful Rob Allen Mouse bass and this has sparked a whole new bout of very expensive GAS. Top chap, classic Basschat purchase, wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again.

Shaun bought my EHX freeze having posted an ad in the wanted section. No hassle sale, prompt payment, quick comms. Would happily deal with him again.

I hadn't realised until I scrolled through this thread that this is the second time I've bought a pedal from Carlos. This time an EHX Superego. As before the entire process has been smoother than a well greased Barry White on a bowling alley. Seriously though, great comms, quick delivery and item as described. Thanks again - I look forward to out next transaction.
Made by a chap called Clive Cherry...who made a short run for Ashbory/Bass Centre and then got an offer he couldn't refuse for his premises and closed up shop. I was after one of these for a long time!
Clive is the guy that gave me the pre amps. Top chap; a wealth of knowledge and experience.

I remember picking up the flyer (pictured at the bottom above) from the Bass Centre in the 90's. If memory serves it has Doug Wimbish wealding the Ashbory on the other side. I later met one of the builders of the Mk2 Ashborys, who gave me a few spare preamps and all of his spare silicon strings he had lying about in his workshop. I was into building pedals at the time and planned to put the pre amps into pedal boxes. The strings were unfortunately totally perished and so were consigned to the bin.

I really like mine, as you say the neck is great. I would have a good go with it first though as it sounds a little different to your usual passive PJ. Not in a bad way, just different. Price seems fair to me too.
