  1. Has a slightly eccentric web site...looks like he makes some very good amps. I'd love to try one of his small jazz guitar amps for double bass - I suspect it would be very nice. One day, maybe. There are some demos on YouTube too
  2. I had one in the very early 80's - pretty good as my first amp - but I'm sure it was a guitar amp really? I think they were UK made, although the name Washburn has been passed around a fair bit over the years.
  3. Result then....adds to list...
  4. Also interested in the Fishman Blender (which version?) and would be good to see photos - PM me if you want to email?
  5. Any photos of the Pierre Joseph pickup? Particularly interested in the jack arrangement and general condition.... Ta
  6. I go for 12th...most necks only give from there due to the body join area supporting the top of the neck. That doesn't mean other things can't happen at the top end mind!
  7. I had a very nice Streamer S1..it was my travelling bass. Replaced the pickups with EMG's and then DiMarzios, put in an Aguilar circuit - the sound got warmer but still could never do the passive Fender sound. It always had a middy edge that you couldn't remove. Back on J basses now and very happy. I love the design and playability but it was just too modern a sound for what I wanted.
  8. Putting people in Badger suits is just asking for trouble.....have you ever been chased by a Badger???
  9. I suspect that bass is safer in Metallica's fortress than elsewhere...its a relic, but its a bass...reconstructed from the wreck that JP posted to Kevin Kaufman. Enjoy the music he left us, leave the relics to history.
  10. Do keep me posted....
  11. Cheers Clarky, I know the background but I'm surprised none of the small UK makers have taken his design forward for the Euro marketplace. People here like SFX and Orchid sell similar products that are/not CE marked...just seems odd to me? For example, my Orchid DI has the CE and I'm pretty certain John hasn't spent a fortune getting it "certified" as his business isn't exactly huge....
  12. Very nice kit and good condition too! Sorry I'm not flush enough to buy..... Have a bump
  13. No one in the UK decided to take this up?
  14. I used the micro into a Barefaced Midget for about two years - great combination all round, although the Midget has got a bit of a bark to it (the eq on the EA is very simple and musical and can easily tame that). I only swapped to an old SWR Electric Blue because I saw one going and had always wanted to try one. The other advantage is you've got two proper channels with their own simple eq. Won't do "old school" without some external help (Sansamp etc) but covers everything else with distinction. Plenty loud enough, with real low end too.
  15. Plenty of love...but little cash! One day......
  16. I don't mind playing the game...I'll never (be able to) buy a new W'ick anyway, but I have got the occasional used one. Always fun, until something else comes along. Nice wood is nice wood...unless you paint it.
  17. I certainly don't consider the fee to be high - it gives you a years access to the best informed and bass-addicted market place....more limited than Evilbay certainly, but a lot less nut-jobs. Seems to me if something doesn't sell here then its overpriced for the current economy. Everything has its price, as they say.
  18. Its just the economy - I'm pretty skint most of the time, kids cars and house takes all the income. I was never that well off, but the costs of living have increased much more than my income from playing over the last couple of years. I'm sure its the same for a lot of people here. I've got some great stuff, and its does what need it to very well. I'd love to get one of those Steinbergers, or trade up to a nice old acoustic bass...but its just not an option, unless my gigs start paying a lot more.
  19. That's just soooo wrong.......
  20. If it means you only carry one bass around, but know you can adjust its nature to suit a job...then I'm all for it. Less is always more. Can't believe I just said that - anyone want to buy some basses?
  21. Yes, Like it. Didn't think I would, but looks like a good balance of older retro and current Warwick style. Nice of GP to mention the Dan Armstrong influence in his thinking. I've never played any of the old ones but I've heard good things about them from luthier types. I'm surprised just how much you can hear the tone change as he moves the pickups. Its a bit like a flintstones version of the Alembic/Wal filters?
  22. For a long time I used a LR Baggs Para DI for EUB. That had a fixed 80Hz and below filter - couldn't be switched off and was designed to reduce the boom form acoustic guitar bodies. That box could produce an enormous amount of low frequency from my Realist pickup...often too much. Never used the IQ on that either, as it was voiced to favour mandolins fiddles and gee-tars. So, someone get the new Radial and tell us how it works out for acoustic bass!
  23. It does look like a great "minimal" DI, and very nice to see Radial offering stripped down and more affordable stuff. I've used a Pro DI as my failsafe for years. Its hopeless as a direct piezo interface (passive transformer) but works wonders with any pre-amped signal...and its the only DI (out of many I use) that always removes earth loop hums.
  24. Have a look at the Orchid Electronics muting box then - flat as a pancake, with muting footswitch..and a jack out plus XLR. And it runs happily off phantom or battery. Cheap too. Radial makes good stuff too, of course!
  25. Not a waste of time...but have to be used in the right setting. Ok, that's often at home...but that's not the point...ooeer...... DI box - Orchid Electronics (you don't need IQ if you like the sound of your bass)
