  1. Try a very slim strip of wood veneer between the bottom of the saddle and the pickup - works sometimes. More risky is looking under the pickup element, as it may not be sitting evenly in the slot - but there is an element of risk when lifting/moving the pickup. They can be very delicate, especially where the wire joins. Another option is the K&K Pure pickup which glues under the bridge plate, inside the body. A more woody tone, and could be connected to any existing internal preamp?
  2. Better photos would help a lot...
  3. Fair point...Pm on its way...
  4. Sigh....would love to. Bump for a 'berger
  5. Would a "vintage" Trace Elliot GP11 be too boring? Personally I would consider it a true classic, and one of the first dedicated bass preamps but I know opinions may differ.
  6. Not just GK's - many amps where the effects loop isn't used. Often just pushing the plug in and out a few times cleans the contacts enough to solve the problem. I think the return socket usually does the switching..but do both anyway? Great little amp.
  7. Ohh..I'll get me camera.... That took a few days, but here's my ultimate solution, [attachment=139233:IMG_0549.JPG] Alembic F2B running into SWR MR Tone Controls. Very different flavours, but they work so well together and make using two different instruments a lot easier. Signal then goes into a passive DI, but the SWR also has an XLR out I keep forgetting to use.
  8. Has a slightly eccentric web site...looks like he makes some very good amps. I'd love to try one of his small jazz guitar amps for double bass - I suspect it would be very nice. One day, maybe. There are some demos on YouTube too
  9. I had one in the very early 80's - pretty good as my first amp - but I'm sure it was a guitar amp really? I think they were UK made, although the name Washburn has been passed around a fair bit over the years.
  10. Result then....adds to list...
  11. Also interested in the Fishman Blender (which version?) and would be good to see photos - PM me if you want to email?
  12. Any photos of the Pierre Joseph pickup? Particularly interested in the jack arrangement and general condition.... Ta
  13. I go for 12th...most necks only give from there due to the body join area supporting the top of the neck. That doesn't mean other things can't happen at the top end mind!
  14. I had a very nice Streamer S1..it was my travelling bass. Replaced the pickups with EMG's and then DiMarzios, put in an Aguilar circuit - the sound got warmer but still could never do the passive Fender sound. It always had a middy edge that you couldn't remove. Back on J basses now and very happy. I love the design and playability but it was just too modern a sound for what I wanted.
  15. Putting people in Badger suits is just asking for trouble.....have you ever been chased by a Badger???
  16. I suspect that bass is safer in Metallica's fortress than elsewhere...its a relic, but its a bass...reconstructed from the wreck that JP posted to Kevin Kaufman. Enjoy the music he left us, leave the relics to history.
  17. Do keep me posted....
  18. Cheers Clarky, I know the background but I'm surprised none of the small UK makers have taken his design forward for the Euro marketplace. People here like SFX and Orchid sell similar products that are/not CE marked...just seems odd to me? For example, my Orchid DI has the CE and I'm pretty certain John hasn't spent a fortune getting it "certified" as his business isn't exactly huge....
  19. Very nice kit and good condition too! Sorry I'm not flush enough to buy..... Have a bump
  20. No one in the UK decided to take this up?
  21. I used the micro into a Barefaced Midget for about two years - great combination all round, although the Midget has got a bit of a bark to it (the eq on the EA is very simple and musical and can easily tame that). I only swapped to an old SWR Electric Blue because I saw one going and had always wanted to try one. The other advantage is you've got two proper channels with their own simple eq. Won't do "old school" without some external help (Sansamp etc) but covers everything else with distinction. Plenty loud enough, with real low end too.
  22. Plenty of love...but little cash! One day......
  23. I don't mind playing the game...I'll never (be able to) buy a new W'ick anyway, but I have got the occasional used one. Always fun, until something else comes along. Nice wood is nice wood...unless you paint it.
  24. I certainly don't consider the fee to be high - it gives you a years access to the best informed and bass-addicted market place....more limited than Evilbay certainly, but a lot less nut-jobs. Seems to me if something doesn't sell here then its overpriced for the current economy. Everything has its price, as they say.
