  1. Another Penning?? Must come round and drink coffee again soon...
  2. That almost worked...but not really. Did prove that pushing to one side temporarily fixes it, but once you stop pushing it sometimes comes undone again behind the zip pull. Thanks for the tip.
  3. That sounds great to me...I don't hear much struggling! I've always enjoyed the EMG sound on fretless, but it can be "generic" and not very personal. Never played a Pilot (or a Guild even) but now I'll have to try one out if I ever see one for sale locally. Thanks for the review
  4. If it wasn't for car tax and MOT next week I'd be grabbing this one! Another great BassChat offer.....
  5. I sold a 5 string set of these to Shaggy a few years ago - he had the same issue with an old Kramer. Might be worth a PM to see if he's got any left over?
  6. Let us know what you find? There is also a modern case like this that comes with Fodera basses...but that will be the expensive option!
  7. Brandoni used to have cases like that...worth a google and a phone call?
  8. Has it got the pivot plate thing..and still functional?
  9. Bought a scratch plate from Seni this week - exactly as described, easy transaction, great communication and very quick delivery. Just what a BassChat deal should be!
  10. Lovely...let mine go a while ago and still miss it sometimes. Trades an option?
  11. I'll second the EA CXL 112 as the best sounding all-rounder run around cab. But the BF Midget is under half the weight, smaller and almost has the same sonic capability...just get s a bit more mid-barky as it gets louder and hasn't got the lowest lows until its turned up a bit (eq or volume...or both). I turned the tweeter off, so the highs aren't part of my bass playing needs - but the CXL also reproduced acoustic guitar/violin exceptionally well with the tweeter turned up about half way. Great cab, but EA's current products don't look as impressive to me. I'd love to try some Acme B1's one day
  12. I've had that happen once, but it was the DI pedal (Sadowsky) that seemed to pick it up. Moved the box a few feet away and it stopped. That was more like feedback...fairly constant high pitched tone. That could be it though....see if it happens at home?
  13. Sounds like a piezo element is failing? Is it happening on one /pair of strings more than the others? From my experiences piezos usually tell you they're giving up either by humming or squeaking, never in an attractive way. Worth looking for iffy solder connections or stressed wires (esp where they join the piezo element) but I'd get in contact with the maker - they're very likely to recognise the symptoms.
  14. Try emailing Bert at Hotwire basses. When I had some issues with a Pyramid flat set they put me in touch with him. His site also sells them, so I'm sure he can sort out what you want.
  15. I'd look out for a Protection Racket bag - pretty generous dimensions and good padding.
  16. I remember - had a few issues, then subscribed. Bit of a glimpse into the classical world for me...I always felt it had a lot of possibilities, like opening up into the EUB world. It reminded me of venturing into a "violin shoppe" and experiencing some of that special brand of disdain reserved for popular musicians, who used electric trickery to ply their dirty trade on the unwashed masses. Or maybe that was just me....
  17. Not seen one yet..but looks good from what I've read on the interweb. Are they very heavy?
  18. Looks like a nice unmolested example (and many aren't!) although I'd expect to see some paint cracks on any Shergold? Another nice old bass of its type being hyped into vintage/collector prices...and about twice what any of us would pay.
  19. Another option is resin filled woods - I think ACG and Zon do this a lot? Talk to your maker...and see what his experiences have been.
  20. Any similar Schallers (BML etc) probably use the same screws - I might even have some here on a set (bought for spare parts for my EUB...I've only used one clover leaf in ten years!) Reissue tuners would be fine, and probably available from Thomann. One question is..why did someone change them all? That makes me think a new re-issue set might be the better option....
  21. Some interest so far, but still here. I've just found my radius blocks, so I'll have a proper look at the ski slope and re-surface the fingerboard after I've I've got it playing "like butta" as they say on Talk@ass.... Its now wearing a similar fretted neck (but with a nitro finish) in case that interests anyone!
  22. The simplest way is a quick wipe with brasso..or similar metal polish or Tcut. Once the tarnish has gone you'll see any major scratches, then oil the fingerboard lightly...leave it for ten mins to soak in, may be do that again if its very dry...then clean up with a dry cloth...and maybe put your old strings back on for a day or two, so the remaining oil residue doesn't kill your fresh strings. This happens more with the "lemon oil" sold for guitars than things like almond oil - I guess there are solvents put into the "lemon"mineral oils that escape?
  23. Got one (huge!) photo included..but even photobucket seems a bit iffy today - so PM me and I can send better photos via email.
  24. I'm on a Mac...so that's one theory out the way.....
  25. Oil and clean up after fret polishing..and masking the wood is a very good idea. Can you post a photo to show the fret condition? Anything that involves levelling (rather than polishing) is more complicated..so its important to evaluate the state of the frets carefully before you decide what approach to take. Almond oil is nice and cheap, but whatever you use..use it very sparingly. Get hold of some of the plastic 3M fine wool - makes less mess and doesn't find the magnets on your pickups....
