  1. The hex-board stuff isn't heavy - worth talking to a maker or looking around. There are also fibre-board cases (as used for lighting and old drum cases) - not as durable but still pretty good. My old bits box was a fibre-type lighting case and its still fine after about 20 years of van travel...although the foam inside has rotted badly.
  2. Bravewood Pbass..maple neck. Every now and then I get Pbass envy....and that was the best I've owned (including the sunburst fretless that has been around here a few times). Maybe also a '98 Warwick Thumb, but it was a bit of a weird one...very odd balance standing up. Maybe I should've given it a bit longer.
  3. Sounds interesting....I still have Pbass envy (but always go back to jazzers...) lets see some pics...
  4. Look at Orchid Electronics - Jon made a two input/switching DI for me ( for similar reasons). Must have an input gain for each instrument...then it had a footswitch (with lights) to select and a mute/tune footswitch. Very easy to use. Not cheap but Jon's stuff sounds great and you get a quality DI output for both instruments already balanced for the PA to use.
  5. Important question - what was the green box on Dave Swift's amp? Not a DI or preamp??
  6. I did a session at a very well appointed private studio last week (money no object...vintage stuff everywhere) and they were using the Radial Pro's for pretty much everything - I was a bit surprised, but they clearly thought they were plenty good enough as simple passive boxes. I took an Avalon but they didn't even plug into it...in two days..
  7. That's a lovely example...but the photo is tiny. Any chance of some larger images? Edit - sorry, ignore that - just followed the link!
  8. Assuming you will always be using an amp, (and don't use radical eq) then Radial ProI (passive) run from the effects send or line output. No hum, no hiss and no nasty overloads. And engineers will recognise and use it. Orchid (active) boxes are great if you want a flat and faithful sound of your instrument, but they can be overloaded by line level sends from an amp and the distortion is harsh (yes, I've done it). Again they will be recognised and respected by engineers..always a good thing.
  9. Can I borrow your time machine?
  10. Nice - tell us everything!
  11. That made me think about playing a 6 string....wow..
  12. One more bump..still sounds great...
  13. For me the blend is the decision maker, and the smaller size. I'm not sophisticated enough to need memory!
  14. Gareth bought my Cafe Walter headphone amp - easy and prompt communication, very swift payment - highly recommended!
  15. I can't answer the question, but I replaced the three band MEC (when it started making strange noises) with a two band Aguilar circuit and really thought it was an improvement. I've also recently used an old Streamer II which has a Bartolini 2 band fitted and its really nice sounding, and very easy to use. I never found the mid band that useful.
  16. First (and probably last) Bump....
  17. All messages replied...looks like its sold...thanks people!
  18. **NOW SOLD** This is a fantastic little battery powered headphone amp - very simple, very accurate sound. Has a mini jack line input with its own volume control so you can play along to recorded music. Also works well as a hi fi headphone amp. No tone control or EQ..you sound like you sound. Made in small numbers (this is no.60) by Walter Harley in Seattle, looks like he's stopped making these after ten years of small scale production. Look up Cafe Walter Audio for full info. I've used this a lot for learning parts and general practise when the kids were small and I didn't want to make any noise. They make lots of noise now they're older so I don't need it. This runs on two 9v batteries for approx 18 hours but real battery life depends on how you use it (see Cafe Walter site for details). I've used part used batteries a lot as well as re-chargeables so its not cost much to run. You get less playing time form re-chargeables but it works fine..just not as long. 19. A lovely old 80's chorus pedal - these were essentially Boss pedals that you self-assembled. Vintage, analogue, rare etc etc and all that. Sounds like an old chorus should, not noisy, in good used condition with a few scratches and scrapes and the remains of my initials scribbled on the back. Power in socket looks like a mini-jack, but I don't really know..its labelled DC9v. I'm asking 65 quid (pound sign not working?) posted to UK or 60 quid collected from Bristol area. 20. Yes it will work, but only to a low level. I had one and enjoyed it (great as a powered hi fi for holidays) but it could only do the smallest of tiny venues as an amp. Any significant background noise and it struggled.
  21. I really dislike the concept of Metallica inc bankrolling and thereby owning Jaco's legacy. I understand the commercial realities, and the wider recognition etc etc but I would rather listen to his work and enjoy his sound. Its nice to hear what his contemporaries thought, but I don't need to hear Hollywood style ravings from people who didn't know him. I hope I'm proved wrong...but I've got a bad feeling about the whole project.
  22. Do you know if its a solid top or laminate?
  23. Enjoy....the fun really starts when you get to make a racket with a bunch of other people...
  24. Don't need to..still got a Goliath II. That's enough to remind me, just moving it out of its resting place takes some motivation and a few days training.
  25. Yes, its funny - I can use the Midget very happily for bass guitar, but I just can't tame it enough for acoustic or EUB. Probably as much to do with amp and pickup options as it is the Midget's voicing. Would love to try one of the new ones and see how that works.
