I've got the Gen2 version - very light and loud, but I wouldn't want to be carrying it on the Tube as its not very small and the side mounted handle means it could be a bit awkward in confined spaces . Goes best with a warmer voiced amp...gets a bit shouty with very clean/hard sounding amps (like my old SWR stuff). It takes eq well and is pretty easy to smooth the mid response out. A great cab but I suspect the latest version is both a bit smaller and smoother sounding.

You can get much of the benefits by using EMG stuff - except the (very expensive) filter eq. EMG have taken a similar path to Alembic, but put the micro electronics into the pickup casing. Has the same general effect, clean pure signal, more string sound..arguably less wood in your sound. Easy retro fit, cheaper and removable.

Louder acoustic bass options ( is there any such thing)
BassBod replied to gub's topic in General Discussion
They are all quiet - get a small amp if you need to, or DI when possible. Have a search and you will find much discussion..and then some more! My personal slant, get something that you like to play on its own..then make it loud enough by whatever means fits the circumstances. Or get a double bass. -

Love 'em, and DR flats are pretty similar. Pyramid Golds are the sound/feel winner for me, but too fragile to rely on for gigging...so Sadowsky and DR's are my favourite flats to date.

Probably no introduction necessary, this is a Series II Barefaced Midget, metal grill, one Speakon input socket and Roqsolid cover with red piping. A great little light cab, with a bit of an aggressive bark to its mid range - how much depends on the voicing of your amp and its eq. My SWR's are a bit edgy, but can be tamed with some tweaking. Other warmer voiced amps will be less pronounced. I've read these go very well with the older Compacts, but I've not tried it. Excellent condition, handle and all feet intact...could easily pass for new. No trades (well, what you got?) and collection from Bristol/Bath area only. Photos will be up as soon as the sun comes out again and the rain stops... Rain stopped..for a while!
This is proper lovely, right up my street! (and reminiscent of your old sunburst '72 fretless P/J that I inherited at one time?) If I hadn't literally just put together a similar bitsa (2012 AVRI '75 RI Jazz body with 1977 US Jazz neck in maple with pearl blocks) I'd be at your door for this - have a bump anyway.......
Yes, it was a replacement for that very bass ( I always wanted it to be a J). Shame....that would've made a good deal with your Martin. I played the one in V&R a week or two ago..love the chunky neck. -
That is nice! Is the neck normal unlined fretless styley, i.e. fret dots on the side at the fret positions (i.e. not between frets like a fretted neck)? I'm sure I could have put that more clearly!
Yes, dots are on the fret positions (3 5 etc), not in between. Minimal but useful too. -

A lovely bass, and a real BassChat Bitser but I'm skint, so its got to go...there may be more... I put this together a few years ago as the typical late 70's Jaco tribute bass. Neck - '71 Fender jazz, with binding and walnut strip. Very yellow and crazed finish. Has had a rosewood fingerboard added (was built as a maple one piece). Plays very well indeed, fingerboard has the lightest of playing marks, no significant wear. Chunkier 70's profile, and a touch deeper overall due to the added fingerboard (although it really doesn't look or measure any bigger than a standard neck plus frets). Ex-Beedster...but thats not uncommon around here. Body - Solid 2 piece alder, from a '99 Fender re-issue, stripped to poly undercoat, then sanded back...but a lot of it is still there. Then given a rough nitro-rattle can coat which is ageing nicely. Its rough, but has a certain rustic charm. Medium weight, but not too bad. Stuff - has DiMarzio J bass humbuckers, warm and full. Badass 1 bridge, which gives more height..works perfectly with the slightly thicker neck. Has a Fender tort plate fitted. Currently strung with DR Sunbeams. No case or bag. Collection only from Bristol /Bath area...or meet up within an hour..

I could never use the blend more than about 30% - that's as much as I need, even for the more driven sounds. Still surprises me that the booklet has (or had) most suggested settings with blend set to 100% effect.
